Weekend Writing Contest: Win a commission! (Patreon)
Content
Graphic design is my passion. Also: Grrrrr.
That’s right, it’s everyone’s favorite recurring (?) weekly (??) writing contest, by popular demand!
THE RULES
- Friday night at 8pm Eastern Time, I will post a set of writing prompts. In keeping with the themes of the event, these will be shitty prompts I came up with five minutes before the deadline
- Entrants choose the prompt they like the best, and write a story based on that prompt
- The story can be in a medium of the entrant’s choosing, including prose writing, a comic, a folk song, a twine game, or basically any format that doesn’t require me to install software to view.
- The story must be a complete story with a beginning, middle, and end. There is otherwise no minimum length
- Stories should be able to be read in under ten minutes (that is, don’t go much past a few thousand words)
- The purpose of this exercise is to write a complete story, not necessarily a good one.
- Please include content warnings for triggering or adult content
- Stories are due by 8:00 PM Eastern Time on Sunday, August 23rd. You have 48 hours!
The Prizes
One entry will be picked as the winner based on criteria that are mysterious as they are inscrutable. The winner will receive one simple commission from me, the writer of Saffron and Sage. Artistic quality is NOT guaranteed.
The commission will be created sometime in the first week of September, when I’m on vacation and moved into a new apartment.
The Story Prompts
Choose one (or more, if you wish), story prompts from the list below that I came up with just now
1. Claiming to be reformed, the criminal mad scientist Dr. Murderstab has invited the world’s leaders to the mysterious Skull-Shaped Peninsula to discuss a radical new plan for world peace, but one presidential aide thinks that Murderstab might not be as reformed as they claim
2. A middle-aged southern redneck truck driver finds the legendary Kitsune-Neko Katana, the only weapon that can save the world from an invading alien race
3. Robin’s latest blind date is an all-time terrible disaster, but a coincidental passing pigeon turns it into a all-time great one
4. The world’s most famous escape artist must escape the most fiendish trap of all: Depression.
How to enter
Just submit a link to your entry through this form. Note that your answers to the form (a name to use, the prompt you chose, and a link to the story) will be made public.
Good luck, have fun, and write a goddamn story
