Overview

What's more fun that WAN 2.2 Fun? WAN 2.2 VACE fun! Why? Well, the VACE control layer has been created to give better character and style consistency, when compared to just plain old WAN Fun...

Being a Control layer you still get the capabilities of WAN fun, so control nets, first/last frame and the like, only this time it's as an extra layer on top of the WAN 2.2 Text-to-Image models.

From my testing, 4-steps seems to be just fine meaning with a modern GPU you're looking at under 1 min and 30 seconds for an 81-frame video, with the usual block swap and torch compile options available to help with VRAM usage and performance.

When providing reference images, it's a good idea to use images with white borders, like this example:

Robust Video Matting is one simple way to automatically remove the background from your video frames as you can change the bg_colour to white (instead of the usual green):

If you're providing a background image then the white borders aren't required, for example:

Performance options

Block swap balances VRAM/RAM. Alternative config:

Also, most loaders have their own balancers too, such as here with the T5 loader's "load_device" being set to "offload_device":

The prompt node can also be run on gpu or cpu, and offloaded as required, with a disk cache option available for speed.

Node Updates

Note that updated versions of Kijai's nodes now have an extra_model input in place of the vace_model. The VACE Module Select can be connected to the extra_model input in this case, as vace_model is no longer present.

See v5a for this example.

17/Sep/25 - This issue has now also been fixed with the updated nodes... control video no longer needs a start_image as well :)

Attachment Info

Both of the workflows used in the video are attached - the main Fun VACE on and the one I used to compare the various steps.

You'll likely just want to use the non-compare version, but it's been included just in case :)

The v5a workflow uses the newly updated model loader (which no longer has vace_model)

Trying the new workflow, I downloaded all the models that were set in your default flf2v workflow. For some reason I keep getting the error "WanVideoModelLoader 'NoneType' object has no attribute 'endswith'" and the WanVideo Model Loader is highlighted in purple. But I selected the exact model I downloaded that was set as default which is "Wan2_2-T2V-A14B_HIGH_fp8_e4m3fn_scaled_KJ.safetensors" (It pulls up right in the model's drop down menu so I assume it's in the right place.) Any idea what's going on with that? I watched the entire YT video. Don't think I missed anything but I must have. Thanks!! **EDIT** I tried to git pull the wanvideowrapper, and updating comfyui and python dependencies. Still getting that exact same error. ChatGPT thinks it's because nothing is going into the "extra model" input on the wanvideo model loader... But you don't even have an "extra model" input in your loader on the YT vid... So I'll keep trying to figure this out. I'm sure I'm doing something dumb. But I just can't get over this hurdle. Here's a screenshot to show the difference between my node and yours and maybe you can let me know if this is actually the cause like ChatGPT says it is. Been trying to fix it for a couple hours now and I can't figure it out. Here's the screenshot.... https://drive.google.com/file/d/1uGwjQGlvTfZUwBo0rzAzi9eap-HG8kFa/view?usp=drive_link Thanks again :)

I tried this also. I have a 4090 with 128gb ram using your models but get ran out of memory on your GPU error when i try run the text2video with the settings as you had from default. I have added 20 to the blocks_to_swap and 1 to the vace_blocks_to_swap like you previous vace workflow that did work and this does get it running. Any other recomends would be great

I encountered error: # ComfyUI Error Report ## Error Details - **Node ID:** 22 - **Node Type:** WanVideoModelLoader - **Exception Type:** AttributeError - **Exception Message:** 'NoneType' object has no attribute 'endswith'

On the other hand, I am looking for a workflow can do a sample video reference ( Control Action) and generate the video from the Photo. Do you have it? Thanks.

Hey Mr Rodent, great workflow! Just wondering if there is any reasoning to applying your block swap and lora's the way you have it and not directly into the Wanvideo Model Loader? Apart from being really tidy looking.
