Not just that it was 20 years ago, but Wumuti is also Ughyur and grew up in the largest Uyghur city, which is a predominantly Muslim ethnic group. The fact that Wumuti's mom was so accepting of Wumuti and actually helped Muti express themselves is pretty incredible.
