This piece is inspired by the very first werewolf film I ever watched - my first theater experience, in fact.

Its climax where the protagonist willingly transforms into a werewolf inside a subway car to defeat the villain will forever be carved into my psyche. Watching a mild-mannered, fun-loving guy transform into a savage, nude, snarling beast was a bit too much for my underdeveloped mind to process.

At that young age, I developed a near-phobia of werewolves. The idea that I, or someone I loved, could be overtaken by their own biology, transformed into something monstrous, and made to turn against the very foundations of love, family, and friendship haunted me.

Little did I expect then that my fears were not unfounded. That they would, in time, come true.

I want to see which among you knows. If this film proves to be too obscure, I'll answer later on tonight.

Yeah it tried too hard to hit the same notes as the original, but without any of the impact. Their biggest sin was making the main character's first transformation mostly hidden and mid-90's CGI heavy. It had a fantastic setup, but the execution felt like a missed opportunity. Perhaps someday I can remedy that scene in the way I've always envisioned..
