As an extra bonus with the new DDD on Madonna, here's my first time listening to her seminal 1998 album, Ray of Light!

A really interesting experience - by this point, I was up to this point in her discography but I hadn't heard the rest of the albums in full. I figured this album would be a sign of things to come, which was true in some ways and less so in others.

Have you heard this one before? I highly recommend it if you haven't. Let me know what you think of it!

This album is so interesting! Normally I'm not a fan of ambient/techno since it doesn't do much for me (I prefer the big emotional stuff) but this sounds like it would be great to put on on a chill, rainy day while curled up with a good book. Thanks as always for sharing with us, it does not go unappreciated! Btw--the last few times I've watched your videos, I've used them as background for playing with my cats and as soon as I started this one, they both started meowing at me. 😂 I think I've Pavlov'd them into associating your voice with playtime but hey, whatever makes them happy, you know? Gave me a good laugh so thought you might appreciate it too 😊

Even though I have listened to this album a million times, I still catch myself tearing up when Mer Girl ends. It was always one of my favorites on the album but after experiencing grief over the loss of friends and family during COVID, it was reminds me of grief will always catch onto you no matter how you try to escape. One of Madonna’s finest.

Mike, just to give some context on Frozen being the big song of the record: 1-it was the lead single and it’s video is absolutely incredible. It (deservingly) got insane amount of plays. I recommend you watch it 2- being the first taste people got to RoL, it represented a major departure of what people where used to her. Like, I was a teenager back then and only listening to stuff like NIN, Garbage, Radiohead. When that song came out me and all of my friends where like “woah, this is cool.” The song was veeery universally loved and also became viral on TikTok more recently, so I think the big streaming numbers are a rare combination of millennials and gen-zs liking the same song at the same time
