Been thinking of chapter 10 lately with the holidays. In ch. 10, Kaz goes back home to Ohio for the holidays, and facing a family that he's not out to, as well as memories of friends that he's no longer in contact with. At the end of the first scene of him returning to his childhood home, he goes up to his room and watches the sunset. This is the final part of that monologue:“There was something simultaneously comforting and uneasy about being in my childhood bedroom again. It was full of memories, the familiar smell of home. It was my retreat away from it all. But if you need a retreat, it’s because there’s something you’re retreating from. Back then, I thought there was no way to escape. It was strange now being in the same room, and knowing that there was a whole world out there, outside of my window.”
