Today I wanted to share a bit more info about the HTMC Toolbox app. It's getting some new functionalities and I'm using it pretty often to help me on my resourcepack endeavors.

I added a downscale option that allows for quick downscaling of any resource pack.

I also improved the detection algorithm for the PBR formats, I still have to find the best balance between speed and accuracy. You can see the app detects if the pack is modded or not, its main resolution, its RP format and its PBR format. It can also detect Bedrock packs.

On a related note I just created a new diamond tier (at $10 a month) that will allow you to support the development of HTMC Toolbox. There's no version available to share yet, but your support will help me make sure I have something to share soon !

This app will also serve as a base for replacement of the converter you currently use. It will remain a command-line based tool and keep the same functionalities, but will be much more easier to debug and improve. Moreover, it's much, much faster than the current batch one.

As a reminder, the proposed (tentative) features of HTMC Toolbox are:

  • conversions from/to any MC version (Java 1.8, Java 1.13, Bedrock, ...) and from/to any PBR version (OldPBR, LabPBR 1.3, OldPBR+emissive, possibly grayscale...)
  • custom definition of formats (using JSON/XML)
  • blocks grouping for batch operations
  • tags/metadata support
  • project support, with rules and priorities for conversions (global properties and individual/group of textures properties) – I already started designing that
  • a studio module, with custom operations on textures/groups to automate generation of specific PBR properties and more (i.e. reordering, converting based on regex+channel, or property such as metallic, …)
  • resourcepack mixing, to facilitate the mixing of different resourcepacks for gameplay/streaming purposes (i.e. mix terracotta of one pack with blocks from another)
  • file watcher operations to convert packs on-the-fly (when designing a _s file with LabPBR format, it will allow you to automatically convert it to OldPBR in the background for example).
  • batch up/downscaler which can be included in the project mechanics, allowing for batch up/downscale as well as conversions on multiple packs on one go.
  • import/export formats and projects (in .JSON or .XML, to be defined)
  • Possibly more !
