First of all, I wanted to say thank you for your sweet and encouraging and sympathetic comments. I’m so grateful you’re patient with me and I think you’re all the best! 💕

The first few pages of the new chapter are finished and are going online this evening! Wednesday evening uploads are back, baby! 👀

I wanted to take you along for the digital bit of finishing the pages.

1 - I scan the pages, prep them in the right size (and the right side, important for print) and save as a file with all the layers I’ll need. Trying to keep it tidy and consistent in my digital folders.

2 - I clean! Lines I messed up, dreaded ink splots, wobbly lines. And I add some detail, especially in black hair! It’s way easier to add white than to leave it out while inking. Sometimes I move an eye around or correct a jawline here and there. This step takes a long time but is really enjoyable (as long as I have a good podcast to listen to). I always wonder if I would be way faster if I inked digitally. I’m thinking about trying it out for the next chapter. But I’d really miss working on paper and not having to stare at a screen all day long… So let’s see!

3 - Screentones/greys! Lovehate this part! Sometimes it’s so relaxing, like drawing in a coloring book. Sometimes I struggle with a page feeling like a grey desert or not knowing if adding more shimmy sparkly flowy grey in the background is too kitschy or exactly what the page needs. I wish I was a bit bolder with black and whites. Getting there!

4 - Text and speechbubbles! Horror task, no fun at all, love to do this in bulk to get it over with. XD I plan where the text goes during sketching but sometimes I’m still caught off guard by having to hide so much of the characters behind text. In the earlier chapters I drew the balloons directly onto the page (conveniently hiding complex backgrounds behind them and saving a lot of time) but this became a real problem when I prepped the pages for Webtoons and when I started translating into English, since the lenght of the sentences would sometimes be wildly different. Now I can easily adjust every speechbubble! But it takes a lot of time as well. You win some, you loose some.

More of a closeup to show the magical step from 1 to 2. It’s subtle, but adds so much (to me).

Update: I did my taxes! And the tax office already revised it in record speed and I’ll even get some money back, so this is nice. XD

In more exciting news: I visited the shelter dog my partner is planning to adopt for the first time! He fell in love with her a couple of months back and has been visiting her on the regular to take her on walks. She is the sweetest girl and I hope it works out! The poor thing is traumatized, very anxious, bites when scared and isn’t fully house-trained yet, so there’s a lot of work ahead of my partner and me as well.

There are several steps to be taken before he can adopt her, like the shelter staff coming over for a house visit, some appointments with the dog trainer from the shelter etc., but if everything goes well, she will move in with him at the end of the month! I’m so excited!

I’m gonna prep the post for this evening with the first 5 pages of the new chapter now! I was thinking about setting it to 6pm Berlin time. What time is where you live then?

See you later!

Mittwoch-Uploads sind back, baby! 👀

Also mal sehen!

3 - Raster!

Persönliches Update: Ich hab meine Steuern gemacht!

See you later!

So excited to have Flix and Zockl back!! I live on the east coast of the U.S. so 6pm Berlin is 12 pm for me! So happy to hear about the steps you and your partner have taken to adopt the pup! I know the pooch will be in a loving and caring home!!

Your partner sounds like a sweet-hearted person! I'm sure the dog will have a great home with you. 🐕 Time-wise, 6pm in Berlin is noon (Toronto-time), so it's lunchtime!
