Hi guys! Sorry I forgot to upload last week. I have been crazy busy with attending one of the biggest conventions in Germany (scary and exciting!). I am still recovering from all the stress and of course the obligatory con plague. I hope I manage to write a bit about it soon. :)So here, have a double-update!Did I already mention that I borrowed Sasha (Zockls fashion fairy godmother)? They are a character from the drama/thriller/boyslove series "Bad Luck Boyz" from SeNaeke who was so kind to lend me his character (and approves of my depiction of them, yay!)You can find SeNaekes art on Patreon (SeNaeke) or on instagram (@se.naeke). ❤️ I’ve been thinking about Zockls wardrobe a lot over the years! I think his family doesn’t have a lot of money (everything went into the house) and he mostly owned hand-me-downs from his older brother and wore them until they fell apart. As someone who never felt at home in his own body going shopping for himself was a horrible ordeal; wanting to blend in with the masses, to not stand out but somehow still use clothes and style as an armor to signal he didn’t want to be part of social groups anyway (easier to tell himself that than to actually try to make friends and maybe be rejected). Hence his little experiments with emo/alternative fashion Flix caught wind of. Whenever I draw him I try to cycle through a set of clothes to show he is wearing the same things over and over. Like how I try to not go overboard with a variety of jackets, bags or shoes (but I sometimes forget and just draw whatever in a new scene). But I get bored while drawing sometimes. And I don’t think Zockl dresses himself in a way that represents his character – a dilemma for a visual medium! I started to sneak in more items of clothing that I would want to see him in, like the boots he’s wearing from chapter „Misskilled“ on. If I had kept him in plain black shirts (sometimes with a game reference on it) and his one jeans (with a hole in the knee area) until this chapter, the new clothes would maybe have had a greater effect. Now it probably feels a bit silly and not like a „transformation“ but like an outfits with slightly more black layers than usual. But I guess in the end this scene is my entry way into experimenting more with his fashion sense in the future. And having clothes swap parties is a good enough reason for why his wardrobe suddenly changes. :D

How do you feel about clothes?Do you choose them to be comfortable, representative of your inner world or are you part of a fashion scene (what's the right word here)? Is style important to you?

He's doing it!!! The new clothes look so good on him. I hope he gets the piercings for real, because they're totally him. 💜💜💜 I struggled with my own style for years, due to crippling low self-esteem, being broke, not realizing in genderqueer, and a million other things. Now in my late thirties, I'm finally comfortable in my own skin and clothes. 💜 it's a process!

I love to hear that, yay!! :D I also liked the piercings a lot hehe. I guess he would have to get them one at a time though.

I wonder if he ever got jealous of Flix who seems to have more money (and also a bigger wardrobe). . . Like Flix is clearly an only child with decent money while Zockls parents (or mother rather) seem to struggle financially. Me personally, I prefer comfy and colourful clothes. I don't think a lot about fashion, it's more a functional than aesthetic thing for me. I also only really started thinking about fashion in my late 20s once I had a job and the money to actually afford clothes. Prior it had to be cheap and decently fitting.

i still struggle to balance my desire to dress more gnc (skirts are just great items of clothing!) with the way the idea of actually wearing clothing like that in public sets off my social anxiety (which is all about breaking social rules/norms) zockl looks great in these clothes, though!

Zockl looks AMAZING!! Yes YES to the piercings! I totally thought he needed some ear cuffs, but ALL of those looked good, and so did the styles he wore! I’m very much looking forward to seeing him come into his own style & the way you will draw him in the future! 🤩 As for my own style…I’ll be honest. My body, skin, and hair have been changing the last few years, and I don’t feel like myself anymore. I’ve gotten into a rut and have been focusing mainly on comfort. I rarely wear makeup or style my hair (something I used to enjoy). I hate it, but it’s the struggle I’ve been facing for a while. I mostly wear social justice statement T-shirts with jeans or yoga pants (with the exception of work clothes). I’m a tall, fat woman with a big, wide foot. I’ve struggled most of my life to find clothes that fit me (in length AND width) in a style I actually like. Sometimes I find pieces I love, but it’s mostly about finding something that will work. Shoes have been a problem since adulthood. Tennis shoes/trainers are the only shoe I can reliably find in a size & style I like. Cute shoes are a rare find for me. I need to try to find my style again, but honestly? In a world of fashion not made for someone like me, it’s exhausting. 🤷‍♀️

i swear he looked more relaxed when he saw himself. like he might be uncomfortable still but it seemed like something clicked

I love this depiction so so much. The hesitance then fear but stumbling forward anyway and then a back straightening moment and... Just comfort. I never had any sort of official close swap party but I have to say, I do somehow have a talent for turning any party in my home into one. As soon as someone lets me, I'm throwing all the clothes out and picking out new outfits. Halloween really made it official. The only reason people come in costumes is to get to pass them around. Lol I love how much you can change how you feel by what you choose and I love especially choosing different things. Clothes, hair, piercings it's not just a chosen expression, it's a continuous choice. And you can change it as often as feels right 🥰

Thank you so much for your sweet comment, reading this made me really happy! You get it. :D And hanging out at your place and trying new outfit combinations sounds lovely, especially for Halloween costumes. How fun!

Fiothin

I'm so glad it comes across, yessss! Thank you! :D

Fiothin

Thank you so much! I'm so glad you like the outfits I put him in. :D And I feel you so much. Small, fat woman with big, wide feet here! I had a big "fuck it all" epiphany a couple of years back and started dressing in short and sexy clothes as if the world would approve of it - and the right people did. But nowadays I'm also in a slump... the outfits that I feel I look best in aren't the most comfortable, doing my makeup and hair takes time and are a hassle to maintain when it's hot in summer or I'm out all day. Shoes are also my enemy; comfort AND style seems too much to ask for. I wholeheartedly agree. I think I need to find a compromise between "my style" and practicality but damn it's exhausting. 🫂

Fiothin

Skirts are amazing (when they have pocketttsssss)! It takes a lot of courage to wear gnc clothes in public, especially depending on where you're living. I hope you can find opportunities to dress however you feel and try out stuff in safety. <3

Fiothin

Good question! This made me think about whether Flix is contributing to his parents rent or whether he's living with them for free? 🤔 He does get a full salary by now... "Cheap and decently fitting" (+all black) used to be the limintations of "my style" until I could think about spending money on stuff like... accessoires? And suddenly a whole new world opened. XD But recently I'm thinking a lot about how important comfort is. Being comfortable in ones clothes really is so important.

It looks like an upgraded version of his current wardrobe! I like that it didn't change his aesthetic in general but it's just a more fashionable with more pieces and accessories! Also, I'm glad that Nina gets to wear suits for formal occasions. I get that not all girls are into dresses. If she was into the top + skirts/shorts, she could still have gotten the sundress and just have it modified.

STAWP HE LOOKS AMAZING OH MY GOD?? IT SUITS HIM SO WELL
