Hello! Just wanted to post a little update on how things are going, I know it's been a while and I am deeply sorry for that, but I hope this will help explain why things have been that way.

I've been off my meds (for ADHD) doing traditional art for around a week now, and I don't think I've had this much fun working on art in a long time...

I'm not sure if it was the meds or something else, but I believe something was making me very depressed whenever I would work on art, as if there was something keeping me away from creating despite really wanting to draw and I can't describe how frustrating and debilitating it was to know what I want/should be doing but having a sort of 'barrier' keep me away from doing that

I think I might have tried to make the process of making art too streamlined, using brushes, layouts, and shortcuts along the way because I felt like I had to be faster and better but I think these things only served to disconnect me further from my art. But going back to simple pen and paper, and a few tools when doing digital has felt very freeing! As if it were like I was experiencing the joy of drawing again for the first time.

I apologize for the ramble, I've been really struggling to figure out what/if to say anything during this time since I've felt as if my art wasn't "up to par" for the longest time. Almost entirely due to social media and seeing other artists around me create illustrations all the time. There's also something to be said about AI art and a feeling of "what's the point" but that's another reason why I've been moving to doing more traditional art and disconnecting from social media more.

I think long-term I want to simply go back to making my own things, and work on long term projects like comics to help keep my motivation high. I'm hoping to post more cool stuff soon! (I have a comic script, and character sheets in the works but I don't wanna share too soon! :3) Thank you for everyone that's been understanding during a very frustrating and low time in my life

This is perfectly understandable. Definitely take time in enjoying the tools that give you comfort. And take time on your own personal work. Its a good mental practice to help you remember why you enjoy drawing in the first place

That's definitely really hard and I totally understand the frustration of not having the motivation or being unable to do art! Your art is amazing 👏 and I'm glad you were able to find something to help you free yourself and feel a little bit more like you! Keep going for it if it makes you feel better and I hope you start to feel better.
