This album really shows how important producers are, because DJ Premier is kinda holding Nas back on this album

Kevin Fitzpatrick

As an old head, this was refreshing to me, but at the same time I can totally get why it didn't work for some people. I appreciated Nas' work with Hitboy because I think the combination of a younger producer with the veteran rapper forced both of them to leave their comfort zone and take chances they otherwise wouldn't have taken. In the future, I'd love to see Nas try that again with a different producer.

Dub

Yall goin crazy wit the uploads, we appreciate u guys

Damn I can see the genuine disappointment in yall faces lol.

I felt like yall off of first listen to a degree. Off of my first listen, I was able to appreciate the 2nd half of the album more. From Writers to the end of the album is when my ears perked up more; that string of songs was more consistent for what my ears found pleasant. Like yall, the first few beats were not what I was expecting and I think that is what gave me a feeling of disappointment. NYSOM 3, I had expectation for just an interpolation of the first two NYSOMs, beat wise. In general for the project I was also expecting more soul samples/beats/swings of energy (kind of what I would hear on a skyzoo project but with more chops and scratching). Not on all, but just more tracks like that. However....I took away my initial expectations for what I had for the album and strictly just listened to it as a project on its own accord and now I really enjoy it. Multiple listens after and I found myself appreciating the first half as well. The only song I still don't rock with is Welcome to the Underground, but I thoroughly enjoy this album now. Just to give context, I'm also from New York and in my mid 30s. This album gives me a soundscape that I don't normally get so part of that goes into my appreciation for it and the mood I want to be in when I listen to it. I copped it on vinyl along with the new de la soul one as well. Not everyone will rock with it but that's ok. I will also say that it could also be that some aren't as familiar with Premiere's catalog of beat choices outside of the more popular ones, combined with the fact that maybe the beats were a tier below what he probably could've cooked up. I do feel that if I had to give scores, Nas would get a A-/A and Premiere would get a B-/B

You really need to check the De La Soul album, been listening to it on repeat Simplest way I can put it is that it's an album that just makes me feel really happy, just a beautiful album

Redibelle

I second what she said! Can tell you guys are bored, why not listen to us who have been telling you for 2 mos that you will love the new DeLaSoul album! We know you pretty well. I see so many followers saying the same. You guys don’t read the comments anymore?

I was anticipating this and damn was i dissapointed, nas was amazing but the sound was not for me lime at all! These came out same day with conway ‘s album and that album sounded like AOY compared ti this and i was driving so i was really in the mood to listen to evrething..from my POV thesealbum is a WASTE of good lyrics..an entire notebook of art lyrics wasted

Aurelio Conley

I had to listen twice. But I was expecting a full listen to get the spit game on all of the tracks not skipping through. Missed a couple tracks but hey, uour opinion is yours on that joint

Rudra

On Madman when Nas says he introduced the idea of multiple hit-making producers on an album, that's a hell of a flex

Rudra

Nas and AZ going back and forth was fire. I don't think I personally give them enough credit for their rhyme schemes

Milton Stephenson Jr

I like the album, but with NAS being my #1 and Preemo at the top of my top 5, I wanted to LOVE the album. So this was a major disappointment for me bc I wanted 1995 in a 2025 package, which I can admit is unreasonable. I like Git Ready and pretty much everything from Madmen to the end of the album but even with those songs the beats just don't hit you in the chest like Preemo's old beats used to. I don't know if it's the equipment he's using now or what. For NastyEscoNasir this all stems back to ILLmatic vs It Was Written and how polarizing those albums were when they dropped. I think it's time to add It Was Written (30 year anniversary) to your AOTM poll so you can hear the difference in sound and subject matter to see where the dichotomy comes from..... Also for you to get the taste of Light Years out of your mouth since ya'll were genuinely turned off by this album.

Milton Stephenson Jr

It hurt me to watch them so disappointed in the album😄. I've never seen them down an album this much (I didn't watch the Carter 6 reaction 😏).

P-Money

Same. Not sure if it's because I've just got so used to Nas on Hit Boy beats for quite a few years now!

P-Money

Was really looking forward to this but 3 tracks in and I am not feeling the production and sound from Preemo if I'm honest. What a shame! "It's not landing for me" and "it's gonna be a long album sonically" hit the nails on the head!

Knoxyy

facts hella quotables on that joint

Jan Majnik

DJ Premiere at least in my eyes a little bit overrated. So many better producers even when he was in his peak era. I prefer Madlib, J Dilla, Pete Rock and so many more other producers of the 90s above premiere. I think it's time to put down the records. :) But I want to see NAS make more music.

Redibelle

You guys aren’t doing videos anymore? Feel like there has been one a week since November. Sometimes not that many. Where are all the albums you said were coming?

Ryan

Need that new Roc Marciano

Oreo Speedragon

It would be dope to see you guys react to the new idk project

TyDye

Yo we need that new Cole yesterday. He went way too hard. And flipped the narrative in such a great way. Yall gona go crazy over just the 1st song.

Popularunknown

come on yo. you know we waiting on that new Tyrese 😡 lmao

WEEWATT

“It’s time” and “junkie” are my favourites on this album for sure. The rest, if they popped on a shuffle I wouldn’t be mad about it but I’m probably not going out of my way to listen either.
