Thanks yall for this. And to the ones who voted for this.

babo

and i just finished billin up💆🏾‍♂️

FigLeaf Bicarbonate

Btw no Cole or Drake album comes close to this. That's why Kendrick always been number 1 to me.

Sammy

This album has always been hyped up to me. I have Those songs that I’ll always go to. King Kunta, Blacker the Berry, Hood politics, but overall this album is so hard to listen to. Sonically it’s not pleasing to me at all. Hopefully this video can give me a better understanding of it at the least.

Ventress The Assassin

Y’all switching colors with y’all fits is dope. looking forward to this reaction!

Marquis

One of Hip Hop's most important albums. I honestly don't understand how people claim it's a hard listen. I guess if you hate Jazz and Miles Davis people could claim that but I love the album front to back Also you guys still have one more album, Overly dedicated EP, it's incredible.

ZKatN

Omg, it’s here. Thank you guys! 👏It’s kinda bittersweet sweet listening to this actually because it may be a while before we see a Kendrick reaction again….unless he gives us Untitled Unmastered 2. …Aaaaaahhhhh l don’t know what to do. …Should l watch it all in one sitting or space it out as much as I can? 🤗🤔

Eli

These walls is about him visiting his friends killer and telling him he smashed his girl And the conversation they had

Timothy Payton

I will never forget when this dropped and Tesuto same year in 2015 I was working for child services I was 25 (now 36) and I was miserable with work and I wasn't listening to K Dot like that either and this album was so different and refreshing and deep it's still Kendrick's best album to me and everything is still relevant to this date in society and black stereotypes that are killing us inside and out especially the political landscape shout out VibeVilla

"U" hits me so hard because I relate too much. I was also the kid who made it out the hood, only to watch my homies and loved ones die in the streets. My little brother had 3 baby momma's by 23 and was institutionalized by his environment, my cousin Gangbangin, then killed in front of his kids by his own homie 2 weeks after I was on the phone with him, telling me how proud he was I made it to where I am, my best friend calling my from the hospital on his death bed, hiding that he was dying just to tell me he cared for me. I can't help but feel in all of my hubris thinking I made a better life for myself, could I have saved at least one of the people I left behind before the streets took them. They used to always tell me how proud they were of me or impressed how I made a life for myself, but there was never anything I could offer back to them. It makes me think, do i share some small responsibility to them? Or were they damned by their own decisions and I just made the choice not to be dragged down? Powerful song man

Malcolm Hughes

Cool fact: Whenever you see that handwritten font on the track visuals (and elsewhere across other TDE media), that's ScHoolboy Q's handwriting.

Ventress The Assassin

This album and concept also ties into his Superbowl Performance with Uncle Sam

SIR. PIPMAN

I've always thought this, but I think Lucy is also Lucien.💡

NEW VINCE STAPLES CONFIRMED

Lotus Hotel (US, EST)

I love the attention y'all paid the 2nd verse on "Momma". Great insights from both of you. That song is also really interesting when you realize that Kendrick wrote it after he took a trip to South Africa aka the motherland. It makes me think when Kendrick says "come back home", he's also trying to get Black people to consider going to Africa and reconnecting with their roots in that way. It also makes me look at the title of the song in a broader way

Julian

momma is actually short hand for the motherland, coming back home in this song ain’t actually compton, it’s africa

Julian

if you listen again with this perspective the last two verses get exponentially better

Bevin Astro

Would love for y'all to react to DAMN. I know y'all did back in the day but I think you'll truly have a whole different experience even if its months down the line

manrod

greatest album of all time, in my opinion. masterfully layered, crafted, and executed. after over 10 years, i still hear something new every time i listen to it

PA

1:10:17 - Dot really dropped a better diss track on himself than Drake or Cole on u. Should have left that man alone.

Joshy

yall brought up that Kanye line- please throw The College Dropout onto the next AOTM poll and i’ll vote for it. it’s so front to back bar heavy and i’d love to see how yall catch all those bars years later

Landadon

Chains shaking on king kunta crazy

Clark8

Yess

Esteban Sibaja

Loved the video, loved the breakdown. VV ❤️

Igor Kolevski

Wasn't Ye that had the Killer Mike reference on his last project?

Michael Garrity

Did you guys do the green and black reverse combo on purpose? Hahaha

Alexander Haynes

While I agree on them not having an album like this, I also believe it’s on what you want out of your music.

Roadzy94

Appreciate the reaction, thank you! 🙏 incredible piece of work by K Lamar, the writing and lyrical ability is insane. Then the production is also out of this world, when you see who worked on it with dot you can see why this album is the masterpiece that it is. One of the greatest projects in music history period

A_RD

He is HIM ever since

Marvin B

Peak peak peak

Carlos Ivan

“Mexicans, they fuck with you!” (That’s me!) Thanks for this great reaction. In a year or two, I’d love to see you guys react to GNX again to see how well it’s aged. 🙏

Matt Negron

This album gets better with every listen. Truly a timeless masterpiece.

Matt Negron

Besides the incredible lyrics, and flows, so many people sleep on the music and musicality of this album. Its literally compromised of many of the greatest artist, musicians and jazz artist of a generation like Terrace Martin, Thundercat, Flying Lotus, Robert Glasper, and Kamasi Washington to name a few. It's so rare to get these type of live original recordings in any music genre these days, let alone hip hop.

ShootatwillRep

Wow the audio difference between here and YouTube are miles apart ! Great idea with the preview too ! This is going to attract people damn near every video to Patreon . Find out why it sounds so much better on YouTube and get it on Patreon

David

I hold that this should've won the Pulitzer. DAMN was amazing, but this album is something special.

Kendall Marshall

you ain’t gotta lie is a diss. can’t tell me otherwise lmao

VibeVilla

We're definitely down to revisit a couple of them with new ears. Also someone pointed out that we still gotta get to "Overly Dedicated"

VibeVilla

Man this life can be cruel at times. Honestly after this video it's one of the songs that really resonated with me (Darae) too.

VibeVilla

not at all lol complete coincidence

Craig Velozo

Kendrick's mention of "Luci" could also be referring to Lucian Grainge. Gives the whole "making a deal with the devil" a new meaning. He signed under Lucian and UMG corporate structure since GKMC.

Jagger Hewett

I always love when you guys discuss how, especially with Kendrick, the music can be correlated with the bible. I would love to see you guys do a video on that, or like a bible study video. I just love how intelligent and passionate you guys are about it, and would love to gain some of your knowledge or perspective

Ben Gauntley

was gonna say they matching well lmao

AstralTortoise

The way yall touch upon the theological aspects of this project is really enlightening, as someone who has only read the word in passing, its really amazing to hear how some of these bars tie even deeper into scripture than i ever realized after a decade of listening to this album. Keep up the good work yall much love.

tgood

My favorite channel has only gotten better over time fam - just happy to see ppl out here really hearing the shit

Mount Halo

Incredibly thoughtful, authentic on-the-spot breakdown. Better than I’ve seen in fact. Like the for sale reaction. Yall are pros.

Mount Halo

Darae Hall of Fame episode. He entered flow state with the connections 🕸️

Rudra

Obviously people remember the jazz elements of this album, but it's incredible how many songs also have such a distinct west coast feel too. And the rapping performances are incredible. The Blacker the Berry and Hood Politics have fucking incredible verses

Rudra

It was just earlier this year that Agent Sasco on The Blacker the Berry was the same person who was on Summer On Lock by Royce da 5'9

1:28:36 ☯️☯️☯️☯️

Fooly

i get what they tryna say, but nah it’s definitely an actual kid he met. In a way Kendrick may feel like he’s talking to himself cuz he sees himself in the kid but it’s not literally himself that he’s talking to

VibeVilla

Love! Glad you enjoyed the video

Fooly

The ending of this album always gives me chills 😮‍💨😮‍💨 The live performances that came from this album were truly generational. I will never forgive the media for trying to scrub his 2016 Grammy performance from the internet. To this day you still have to use roundabout ways to even find and listen to it

Durag Delvie

Average Joe off Overly Dedicated is one of the first kdot songs I heard. Still my favorite. I feel average Joe is good kid mad city but just in one song

PAQUIN Raino

To respond to Prince's question, he was talking to a little boy in Africa, he went to South Africa during the creation of the album. This is also why he mentioned in Blacker the Berry " Zulu and Xhosa might go to war" Zulu and Xhosa being the 2 dominant black ( and overall too) population and language of South Africa. Going back home is mainly going back to Africa to the roots of all black people in the Americas

Les Lee

I joined the patreon just for this. TPAB and Victory Lap are the greatest hip-hop albums of all time to me. Keep up the great work, guys.

PAQUIN Raino

Man that's deep and really tough, hope you still doing good in life and mentally

PAQUIN Raino

He was talking to a little boy in Africa, he went to South Africa during the creation of the album. This is also why he mentioned in Blacker the Berry " Zulu and Xhosa might go to war" Zulu and Xhosa being the 2 dominant black ( and overall too) population and language of South Africa. Plus he said " tossing football with his (...) ankles" clearly talking about soccer which is big in Africa.

bojken

momma is actually about kendrick going back africa (momma = motherland) and talking to that boy. my interpretation is that the boy is a form of god, similar to the beggar in hmadc. the boy offers kendrick enlightment, but in my opinion kendrick denies the offer, or atleast doesn't accept. this is why he turns frantic in the end and has a sort of existential crisis while looking for something - maybe enlightment or true happiness. that's just my take

Tyler Jones

Joined the Patreon just for this, your theological breakdown was super refreshing, I actually did one of my theology and philosophy uni assignments on this album

Joey Johns

mannnnn j.cole was lying through his fucking teeth when he was dissing this album

Joey Johns

i was thinking this the other day, you know kdot won that battle bc none of drake's disses were better than "u"

Rob Himself

Daylyt reaction soon I’m hoping?!
