Hi everyone,

I'm pleased to share a short tutorial with you, where we'll dive into the wet-on-wet technique through painting a cute little rabbit.

For this project, I've kept things simple, using just two colours, two brushes and my watercolour journal.

The size of the rabbit makes it perfect for painting a greeting card. It took me about half an hour to paint.

All of the files you need to complete the painting are attached below my message here. I have included some progress photos of my painting. You can download them individually or all at once by clicking on the "Download all" button.

The reference photo was taken by Esi Grunhagen and I downloaded it from Pixabay:

Soo cute, I've been in a dry spell for about 3 months now I draw but haven't felt inspired to paint, this might be just what I need

Louise De Masi

I hope you enjoy it Anita and hopefully it will help you to get your painting spark back.

Thanks, Louise, an adorable little bunny - haven't painted in ages, this little guy is the inspiration I needed (and the kiddos will love it!)

How cute!!!!

Eleonore

Hello Louise, what a cute bunny you made for us beginners. I'm going to practice it as soon as possible because in two weeks I have to take care of a bunny for a few days. And then I can take a beautiful card with me. (if painting is successful)

Vee

What a darling little guy!! Would be fun to have a go at him/her. Thank you very much dear Louise xxx

Ruth Herring

I downloaded this reference photos a few weeks ago and have made multiple attempts to paint this cutie. So excited to see you do it!

Faye Fenk

This was so fun and a learning experience for me. Thank you!

Yolanda Michaud

Thank you so much for providing the numbers of the pigments, Louise. I use Sennelier watercolours, which might significantly differ from Winsor & Newton or Schminckle. This information helps everyone find colours similar to other brands. I have put this bunny on the priority list for the weekend. With gratitude from Canada.

Louise De Masi

You're very welcome Yolanda. I know it's not easy substituting colours but the pigment codes are a good starting point. Thank you.

Faye Fenk

Louise I have taken a watercolor class before but it was nothing compared to what you have shown me. I so much enjoy the way you teach and you make it seem so easy it excites me. I have learned so much from you. Thank you so very much!!

Louise De Masi

I'm really happy to know that. Thank you Faye. It's wonderful that you are learning so much.

Terri Robertson

I really enjoyed this one Louise, it was fun to do, and I added a few extra details (as always!) with some whiskers and fluff. Thank you for another fab tutorial 💕 Happy April!

Kathryn Regier

This little bunny was so adorable! I painted 3 of them and put them on cards. Everyone loved them! Thank you Louise 🥰

Christine Barrett

I tried to do this on a card but found the sketch was too small for the details so i sketched onto half an A4 and had much better results ... love how it mingles together to get that soft effect for the rabbit and the best thing is i folded the A4 into a card and gave it to my daughter to welcome our her new baby son into this world ... happy times xx

Carina

I finally completed my first furry painting🐰

Barbara Constant

Lousie, I just wanted to ask, how do you remove the paper tape that I have used to stretch my paper on both gator board and a regular wooden board? I apologize if you have already reference this somewhere else. Thank you Barb

Louise De Masi

Hi Barb, For gatorbord - I soak it in the bath for about ten minutes and it comes straight off. I put a little bit of water in the bath and place the board on top of the water with the tape facing the water. I have a blog post here where I have written about my entire process of stretching paper: https://www.louisedemasi.com/tips/2024/1/8/how-to-stretch-watercolor-paper You can't do that with wooden boards though. When I used to use wooden boards I wet the tape with water and then, when it softened, I scraped it off with a paint scraper.
