Hi everyone,

Here is the August challenge - a single sunlit daffodil.

Congratulations to everyone who tackled last month's challenge of painting leaves in a glass vase! It was a tough subject, but so many of you rose to the occasion and created beautiful work.

Painting independently, without following a tutorial, offers a number of benefits. It encourages you to explore and refine your unique style. You’ll improve your problem-solving skills and become better at observing intricate details such as light, shadow, and colour transitions. Completing a painting on your own is a fantastic confidence booster and often leads to creative breakthroughs and exciting discoveries.

Feel free to share your completed paintings in the chat area on Patreon, or post them in our Facebook or Discord groups if you’re a member. This is a space for learning and growing at your own pace so if your painting doesn’t turn out as expected and you’re hesitant to share it, that’s perfectly ok. The most important thing is to enjoy the process and have fun.

The line drawing and photo are attached below this message.

So difficult! Oh my lol

Stella

How can I share my version, Louise?

Louise De Masi

Hi Stella, you can post them in the community chat area of Patreon, in the Discord group and also in the Facebook group.

Stella

Thank you! Honestly, I’m not sure I should post it… lol lol

This will be a real challenge for me, i find yellow flowers to be really, really difficult (coincidently i just tried several times to paint one of your yellow roses, Louise. Not great results!).

Instant aquarelle

I'm painting the flower. I thought it was easy but no, I'm having trouble painting the centre! I think I'll do the daffodil tutorial you suggest and come back to this challenge. :)

Laura Howell

Louise, are you planning on doing a tutorial for this daffodil? It would be educational to do that after we’ve all tried(struggled!) on our own!!! Just a thought! Thank you!!

Louise De Masi

I hadn't planned on it Laura but I agree it's a good idea - leave me with it. I'll try to get it done soon.

This is indeed a real confidence booster. I always thought I had failed when I ended up doing my own thing half way through a tutorials this have me permission to go for it fro. The start. Now all i have to do is take good photographs abd perfect my selective transfer drawing. Much bigger challenge. Thanks Louise wonderful tutor.

Thank you Louise for challenging us. The daffodil was definitely challenging but I'm happy enough with the result, after thinking I'd quit a number of times!

Kathleen Gill

Thank you Louise. I will be painting this tomorrow. 🥰
