Paint this vibrant kingfisher step-by-step using wet-on-wet, lifting, and negative painting techniques.

Hi everyone,

In this step by step tutorial, we’ll paint this vibrant kingfisher together.

I’ll guide you through wet on wet and wet on dry techniques, show you how to lift highlights, and use negative painting to create soft feather edges. We’ll also add final details with a smaller brush to bring it all to life.

All of the files you need to complete the painting are attached below my message here. There are 11 progress photos of my painting to assist.

You can download them individually or all at once by clicking on the "Download all" button.

Thanks to Garry Chapple. John from Pixabay for the reference photo: https://pixabay.com/photos/kingfisher-bird-forest-branch-8270725/

Have fun!

Louise

How do I post a picture I painted from Louise’s tutorial?

Susan

This was a very fun and educational tutorial for me.

Thank you so much.

Martina

I love this painting. Where can I buy this beautiful square palette?

Louise De Masi

Thanks Martina. It's a food platter by Maxwell Williams. My mother in law didn't want it so I grabbed it!

Martina

😊 thank you

Jeanette

Another excellent tutorial. The progress shots are so useful too. I really appreciate the effort you put into all the accompanying resources, even down to detailing substitute colours and specifying that the phthalo blue is green shade. Thanks Louise.

Louise De Masi

Thanks so much Jeanette. Over time I’ve learnt what tends to help most and I try to build that into each tutorial, so it’s great to hear it’s making a difference for you. 🥰
