Hi everyone,

Time to paint a baby chimpanzee in watercolour. I photographed this little one at Taronga Zoo in Sydney about 10 years ago. I loved the sense of movement and those sweet pink hands and feet.

This is Part 1.

Chimpanzee tutorial Part 2 is here: https://www.patreon.com/posts/152255044

In this class, we’ll:

Work wet on wet to create soft, natural fur

Build depth gradually with layered washes

Use colour creatively rather than copying the reference exactly

The focus throughout is on keeping the painting loose and fresh, trusting the paint, and resisting the urge to overwork details too early.

As always, you’ll find the reference photo, line drawing, supplies list, and progress photos (there are 20 of them) attached. You can download them individually or all at once by clicking on the "Download all" button.

I hope you enjoy painting this little chimp as much as I did.

Louise
