Hi everyone,

In this tutorial, I’ll show you how I painted this snow leopard using wet on wet washes to create the fur.

After that, I use creamy dark paint to form the spots, allowing the edges to soften into the surrounding fur. We’ll gradually build the painting with a combination of loose washes, layering and carefully placed details to bring this gorgeous animal to life.

All of the files you need to complete the painting are attached below, including 13 progress photos. You’ll also see these throughout the tutorial, making it easy to pause the video and compare your progress with mine as you paint.

I hope you enjoy it and I look forward to seeing your paintings.

This is lovely Louise. The loose quality is inspiring. I have been trying to paint looser and it has been a bit of a struggle lately. Recently, I painted a bird and while it turned out well, it appears a bit stiff in many places. I am going to do this tutorial with just the progress photos and will probably watch the video again in it's entirety. Thank you! Jody.

Just completed. I loved painting the snow leopard.

Thank you! Painting loosely can take a bit of practice, especially when we’re used to being careful with all the details. Working through the snow leopard using just the progress photos sounds like a great exercise. I hope it helps you relax into the process a little more and enjoy letting the paint do some of the work for you.
