Leaf tutorial using a triadic colour scheme - Beginner (Patreon)

Hi everyone,
After the advanced tutorial I posted last week I thought I'd post a simpler tutorial this week for beginners. I painted a little painting of these leaves years ago (similar to this one - 5" by 7') when I first started painting in watercolour. I added the painting to my Etsy store at the time and I sold a heap of prints. I think some people find the simplicity of them attractive. You could find some leaves of your own from the garden and paint them using the techniques I used for this painting.
In this tutorial I use a triadic colour scheme. A triadic colour scheme is one where you use contrasting colours that are not complementary colours. Triadic colours sit in an equal distance around the colour wheel. Red, Yellow and Blue are triadic colours. Green, Orange and Violet are an example of another triadic colour scheme that uses the secondary colours on the colour wheel. Using a triadic colour scheme allows you to blend colours together to mix a gorgeous array of colours (semi neutrals) that help with colour harmony in your paintings.
I have made these leaves quite large but they can be reduced in size if you are only using small paper. If you make them smaller reduce the size of your brushes as well.
The files you need to complete the painting are attached below my message here. I have included a lot of progress photos for you.
Tutorials I am working on at the moment:
Iris, Vizsla (dog), Apple Blossoms, and the Barn Owl from YouTube.
The Blue Tit I have finished - I have to check it. I'll post it next week.
I keep getting asked for another long haired dog tutorial so I've been painting a Shelty. I have painted two now that I'm not entirely happy with. I fussed with them too much. I will try again over the weekend.
Have fun,
Louise

My tutorials are designed to help you on your creative journey. Any painting you create from a tutorial where I use my own reference photo is for personal use only. They can't be sold or entered into an art competition. I write on the Supplies Lists where the photos come from. Permission is not given to paint any of my earlier paintings that are not tutorials because some of them are licensed. Also, a few of my earlier paintings were painted from photographs where I sought the permission of the photographer. The photographer gave me permission to use it, not others.
If I do a tutorial where I use another photographer's photo (eg from Pixabay or Unsplash) that is available for anyone throughout the world to download (copyright free) and use I’m happy for you to sell the paintings you create from the tutorial.
If I do a tutorial and I use a photo that I have paid for and downloaded from the website Wildlife Reference Photos in order for you to sell the painting you create from the tutorial you need to purchase and download the photograph yourself. This is in accordance with the Terms and Services of the Wildlife Reference Photo website.
If you share a finished painting on social media I would really appreciate it if you could link back to my account (be it on Facebook, YouTube or Instagram) and mention that you painted it in one of my tutorials. @louisedemasi
Thank you!
