My tutorials are designed to help you on your creative journey. Any painting you create from a tutorial where I use my own reference photo is for personal use only. They can't be sold or entered into an art competition. I write on the Supplies Lists where the photos come from. Permission is not given to paint any of my earlier paintings that are not tutorials because some of them are licensed. Also, a few of my earlier paintings were painted from photographs where I sought the permission of the photographer. The photographer gave me permission to use it, not others.

If I do a tutorial where I use another photographer's photo (eg from Pixabay or Unsplash) that is available for anyone throughout the world to download (copyright free) and use I’m happy for you to sell the paintings you create from the tutorial.

If I do a tutorial and I use a photo that I have paid for and downloaded from the website Wildlife Reference Photos in order for you to sell the painting you create from the tutorial you need to purchase and download the photograph yourself. This is in accordance with the Terms and Services of the Wildlife Reference Photo website.

If you share a finished painting on social media I would really appreciate it if you could link back to my account (be it on Facebook, YouTube or Instagram) and mention that you painted it in one of my tutorials. @louisedemasi

Thank you!

My water lines seem to be extra obvious with these darker colors. lol - they are the bane of my existence too!

Monica Green

Thanks so far Louise. I am always surprised how the colours blend once dry. What looks like a patch quilt ends up blending in well at the end. I did put a bit of QUindich gold in the eye and around a few places, as I do like that glow. Really enjoy the details you bring in at the end. The use of shadow and how you break things up into pieces, really helps. Always daunting to begin with but always learn so much by the end. Wonderful instruction. I appreciate it.

Louise De Masi

Thank so much Monica. I'm glad the tutorials are helping you. 💕

Nancy Guenther

Thank you so much, Louise. This was a great exercise in mixing browns and blacks and for once, I didn't mess up the whiskers! Mixing browns has always stumped me but this gave me more confidence. This took me 3 days off and on. Of all the teachers I've tried in the last 4 years, you are the best by far. Hugs from northern California.

Coleen Conway

I can't seem to find the progress photos for Part 2? Are there any? Thanks! Coleen

Louise De Masi

Hi Coleen, all the files for each tutorial are attached to Part 1.

Coleen Conway

Hi Louise! Thanks so much for responding so quickly! So photo 4 is the last progress photo then you rely on the photo of the finished horse?

STEPHEN R WIERHAKE

As always, your tutorials are great. I dream about making a living doing equine art and portraits (of people) - and pets too. I have a horse photo from Unsplash printed off, and how that I've seen this tutorial, I will be more confident when I start. I am so glad I signed up for your Patreon lesson!

Isa

I never tried painting a horse before, but this tutorial is so well detailed and the way you show how to mix the paints to get the right hues and shadows inspired me to try. I always learn so much from your tutorials, thank you Louise.

Lydia Frazier Bosley

I've watched the tutorial completely through for a second time, this time making notes...I'm hesitant to start the horse because it's so important for me to get it right...but I've got to force myself to go ahead! Your instructions are so complete, it should be easy (I keep trying to convince myself)... we shall see! Thanks, Louise!

Louise De Masi

Good luck with it Lydia 🤞🏻. I painted it twice so don't be hard on yourself if your first attempt isn't as good as you'd hoped. This watercolour stuff isn't easy to use 😉💕.

Marie-Justine Roy

I have done it! I am so proud of the result and I have learned a lot. Hopefully I will be able to do another horse portrait with same technique. Thank you.

Mary Jo Prickett

Hello Louise! You are such a fabulous teacher!! Is there anyway you can give the brown colors that you used out of the tube for the first one? I’m not confident in mixing colors. I would really like to paint with the colors you used for the first one. Is that available? Thank you ☺️

Louise De Masi

Thanks Mary Jo. I used Burnt Sienna - that was main colour, Sepia in the dark areas and I think maybe a little Van Dyke Brown here and there. That's from memory. I didn't write it down sorry.

Cinthia Teague

I really enjoyed this painting experience. I think I will paint a wreath around it's neck and use it for a Christmas cade. My granddaughter has a white horse. Maybe one day you will do a white horse tutorial.

Nettie Moss

Oh - I am so relieved you had problems with the neck as I was beginning to despair on my efforts! I did start by doing the strokes across ways, to follow the throat but it still looked wrong, so I have studied how you eventually worked it and shall try again; but I was beginning to think will I ever be able to get it right, but now I feel I may have a chance of doing it halfway ok! Like others I have never painted a horse before. I am doing a different take on it but still need your guidance! Phew!

Shelly Solle

This painting has really taken me some time to finish. I've had a surgery in between, but I'm finishing it up now. As usual, your instruction is invaluable. Thank you Louise, you truly are the best!

Shelly Solle

They put wires in my spine and a battery in my butt. At this point, I am more cyborg than human. :::sigh::: I'm ok. Glad to be back painting again with my favorite teacher and medium. :)

Louise De Masi

Shelly, you are amazing. You get on with life no matter what it throws at you. Huge hugs to you! 💕
