Hi Louise, not sure how to send you the response to your message? However, I started following you because you are very creative and do a fine job teaching. I signed up with Patreon for the pure enjoyment! Thank you!

Linda J Greiner

With Louise's excellent lessons, this has gone from a beloved hobby to actually earning money doing pet portraits. I still consider myself a novice and have so much more to learn. LOVE following on Patreon.

Lyndsay Newton

I called myself a hobbyist even though I am making money from my hobby. I don't intend for my art to be more than a side gig, so I think hobbyist best describes me.

Becky

I need a third option. ⚪ I am here to learn watercolor techniques so I can paint subjects without a step-by-step guide for personal enrichment and enjoyment.

Shola Ellorae

I chose the first option because that is where I’m at now, but if over the next ten years I become practised enough and I have the talent it takes, I would like to sell my art to perhaps support me a little in my retirement so I am putting the hours in now. With that goal in mind I have recently committed to painting every day and completing at least one painting a week.

Sher Olson

I love your water color style - and - as I am retiring, I am working towards my next stage. I wish to become a professional artist, doing commission pet & people portraits. Although I have a retirement fund set up - I feel that a supplemental income (that I would ENJOY doing) would be perfect for me! (I just can not imagine doing nothing in my retirement - watercolors are inspiring!!)

terri m

Hi Louise, I have been following you for quite some time when I first started. I'm able to get your teaching methods even though if I'm honest I do some more than once or twice. I just completed the bluejay, woodpecker and cardinal. I added a lot of artistic flair. I felt overwhelmed with the mount of scarlet lake and did some pen outlines where I thought divisions might break up the scarlet lake. I did these using the largest drawing and am working on the kingfisher. Thank you for teaching.

Linda Beaudry

I am here because Louise is an excellent educator! I have already learned so much in just a few days. I hope to learn enough skills to be able to paint on my own some day, but until then I am thrilled to have found such an incredible teacher to guide me!

Julie Hopkins

I first came across Louise on YouTube and when I retired I decided to take up watercolour as a new hobby. Louise’s calm manner and scaffolded tutorials suit me to a tee. Thank you Louise

Mae Wheeler

Hi Louise! Your method of teaching is what made me become a member of your Patreon. You are very specific about every thing you are doing as you paint and I love that you repeat and repeat as you move along. I need this! I can understand you so easily as you breakdown steps and always explain why you are doing them. You are a very calm presence as you speak and teach, not to mention that your work is absolutely beautiful. Thank you so much for all of your efforts! P.S. I like your bloopers :)

Kirstin Santos

Hello Louise and fellow patrons! How fortunate we are to be able to subscribe and learn with Louise - an accomplished professional watercolor artist and educator extraordinaire! I also really appreciate her attitude of being a student of her craft, always venturing into new territory and keeping in touch with us to offer her very best. This poll is another example of genuine regard for us as patrons. Thank you, Louise!!!

Di

Hi Louise, I love your style of painting and I throughly enjoy your tutorials which are so detailed and easy to follow. I was torn between loose painting or structured, then I came across your style and absolutely love the way you teach.

Julie Aguillard

I am here to learn and expand my ability to paint and motivation!!!! I love learning from you Louise. Definitely not for becoming professional!

Sharon Silvester

A professional watercolor artist recommended Louise and I'm so glad she did. I never, ever thought I could paint. Louise has opened up a whole new world which gives me such pleasure. I'm hoping to be able to paint one of "my own" paintings soon. Louise , you are a treasure 💜🪻

Kim Buck

Same with me.

Sharron Farnell

Hi Louise I am here to learn and motivate myself to paint. I love your tutorials and workshop. I have dabbled in Botanical art however I love the freedom of your technique. Thank you Louise

Leslie Laurent

I enjoy Louise’s tutorials. So many on both Youtube and Patreon are good artists but not particularly good teachers. Louise is both.

Anne Watman

So well said, Mae. I feel the same way!

Jennifer M Sandrock

Taking your class has been a new and wonderful chapter in my personal life and development even at age 69. Lol... I have no illusions about becoming a accomplished artist... But I do want to enjoy the time I have left on my journey. ❤️

Anne Watman

I’m retired, and I have no interest in having a business. However, I cannot begin to express the joy there is in learning and creating. I’ve tried so many online watercolor instructor tutorials and courses, and you are the first one who has really clicked for me. I’m a pretty good artist, but watercolor has been exceptionally challenging. I’ve been hopeful and frustrated. Sometimes I’ve wondered why I’m doing this. Your method of teaching has made all the difference. I’m really starting to get this!!!

Jill Cantell

Would love to be good enough to go professional but it’s not gonna happen. I just love you cool and calm attitude and easy to follow tutorials. Thank you soooo much.

Rachel Young

Thank you for sharing your wonderful skills with us, I love creating and have been an artist all my life, when I first saw your channel I was reminded of my kind and encouraging grade 3 teacher who came to teach here in Canada from Australia. Her name was Mrs Cronk , she was one of the only teachers that encouraged me with art over academics, I am grateful to this day. Your style and manner is perfect for me as I am a wildlife photographer, so I am looking forward to rendering some of my own images once I have a better understanding of watercolour. I look forward to every lesson 🦒🌱🌞 I am averaging 1 to 2 paintings a day, usually the same subject 4 or 5 times, I am a slow learner, each one I learn something new, the eyes are my favourite part🥰

SUSSI Rodriguez

I’ve always loved water color, and your way of teaching is what got me started. Your tutorials are great, explanations are clear. Your water coloring of animals, birds are stunning. Your calming method of repeating what your painting is very easy to follow. Thank you!

Cindy Wilson

I am really enjoying your tutorials, you give great tips and advice and my work has flourished under your tutelage. I always feel so accomplished after completing each tutorial. I love that you do more than just flowers too.

Devra

ive tried a good number of teachers… Louise you are so skilled as both an artist and a teacher .. im a green horn.. yet feel so encouraged when i follow your tutorials… id like to continue to improve my skills upward and upward to increased confidence to be able to consider myself an ‘artist’.. so many big blessings to you..

Zoie McIntyre

Louise you are indeed a treasure. I absolutely love the way you teach and like Devra I have tried many many teachers and you honestly make me feel as though you are addressing my concerns and encouraging me. Thank you so much for all you do Louise and for being there for all of us. You are a blessing.

Linda

I’d like to hit the second poll button but realistically it would be the first one😊. Like everyone above it is truly wonderful to have such an excellent teacher to guide me. Thanks, Louise🎨💐.

Advika Sequeira

I would say I’m somewhere between the 2 options. I’ve seen my watercolour skills improve significantly over the last few months. I’d love to be a professional, but I’ve got a long way to go.

Trina

Hi Louise, I was fortunate enough to find you right away. Your kind manner and bloopers hooked me from the start. You are succinct and explain things clearly. Honestly, I find myself just wanting to show you the painting after I've finished and ask for a quick critique so I can learn to see what I may not be seeing. I've done so many of your tutorials over the past year. The rooster (2 times) and the fox (5 times) came out the best. Thank you for considering our needs. Trina

Carol J Bodily

I love the way you teach and watching you create. Thank you for sharing your talents with all of us.

Jennifer Mertens

I am here for the flowers…I love all the content you post, but I must admit it is your uncanny talent with floral work that turned me into a patron. Also, I‘m " definitely a hobbyist that would love to turn pro, however like so many others, I lack the drive and talent to do so.

Pam Pryce

I’m not exactly a beginner artist Just old, tired of public life and love filling spaces with colour🤣🤣🤣🤣. I love bringing colouring pages to a different level too but using watercolour stretches me and I can’t resist spending hours and hours fiddling with coloured water and seeing a beautiful picture at the end. Your tutorials bring me great pleasure thankyou so much. 🥰❤️

Hazel Mastin

I love your way of tutoring and your beautiful paintings. Initially I was trying to recreate your paintings, now whilst I still do this with some, I’m able to adapt the skills I’ve learnt to paint a totally different reference photo of a flower or frog etc alongside yours

Hazel Mastin

Oh and whilst I really am learning for pleasure, I got to sell my first painting at a local show recently. So maybe one day I could hit the second option

SC

Your mentoring encouragements and concise styled tutorials, along with your beautifully skilled talents have lead me here. My objectives in perusing your classes are to improve my hobbyist skills, though I’ve been fortunate to sell a few paintings along the way. I especially love all the variety you generously offer and share with us !

Diane Miessler

Agreed - you’re wonderful! You have such a kind, encouraging presence and you explain techniques so well. Thank you for doing what you do!

Christine West

Hi Louise, I’m 76 and have come to watercolour over the last couple of years. When concentrating on painting it’s a great way of forgetting everything else in your life and very calming.

Melissa Jayne

Wish we could choose both options. One hopefully leading to the other :)

Dian

I love the combination of flowers and animal/bird tutorials and have learned so much under your step by step detailed guidance Louise. I’ve achieved results I never thought I would.

Watercolour

I love how detailed your explanations are and the progress photos are an enormous help. I also love using limited palettes. Paints are so expensive here in Australia (doesn’t mean I don’t still buy them though) 🤣

Anne Kuin

It's clear you're a teacher in heart and soul. I'm very glad you chose to use these skills for teaching water color painting. I've been painting with oils for some years now, but want to learn using water colors. I'd like to learn how to sell my paintings as well (when my paintings are good enough).

Ilknur Akbay

I met you when I first started to play with watercolors 2 years ago. I have tried many teachers since then but I came back to you. Because there's no one like you. The way you explain things and step by steps are the best. Thank you so much! I cried so many times because of my failures of watercolor. I quited many times, I said I never come back to watercolor etc. But for some reason I keep coming back and your tutorials and honesty was so helpful. Now I am in a level that I know what I am doing 50 percent of the time when I paint. Which is such a big relief and improvement. Thank you. ❤❤❤

Kimberly Rombaut

I’m trying to learn to paint with watercolours because I think it’s a beautiful medium! Maybe some day I might go the professional route but that will take many many years of practice 😊

Gael Macdonald

I like to think I'm learning for my own pleasure but it's a difficult medium. Your tutorials are the closest I have come to being able to recreate something that I feel happy about. I love details and tiny brushes. Thank you

Blanca Bowman

I am enjoying a new hobby that I did not think I could do and your classes have given me the confidence I needed to succeed.

Joyce C

Louise, as a teacher for 40 years, I recognize excellence in teaching and you have it! I have made such personal progress since becoming one of your students. I have maintained my (most reasonably priced) membership, even through long periods of not being able to paint, because I don't want to miss any of your tutorials. I like to think of steps of learning such as unconscious incompetence, conscious incompetence, conscious competence, and unconscious incompetence. In that sense, I'm growing! My skills might not match another's, but my head is starting to know what steps I should take. It's so fun to have a room full of organized color -- art supplies and paintings on the walls that make me happy, along with lots of hand painted greeting cards for my large family and friends. This hobby is a delight to share with my 13 grandchildren from age 2 - 20! We all encourage one another and we all thank you!

Janet Wood

I love the challenge! I now go for the intermediate or advanced tutorials because I found that through your teaching I can produce paintings that I never thought possible as a novice.

Sherri McMahon

I really like your teaching style! You put the "why" behind the lesson which helps me in learning. Thanks for all your time and knowledge.

Jodi Mercer

I really wanted to say something profound about how much I enjoy your teaching style, soothing voice and how much your guidance has improved my skills - but reading through the other comments really sums it up. I can see the impact you have had on so many others, myself included. THANK YOU for sharing your gift with all of us.

Linda Carr

I love your clear concise step by step instructions. I have learned so much about controlling the amount of water and the consistency of my paint. I would like to learn more about creating depth with light and shadows and how to use tonal values. Thank you Louise for not only sharing your experience and painting techniques, but also sharing your life and family with us.

Carol L Banach

Your tutorials are well done. Especially subjects like birds and animals. I prefer painting subjects with an "eye". I was drawn to you because of your techniques with pets.

Alina Fazal Juma

I love your classes!!!! I’m working on a journey to become a children’s book illustrator. My big life dream! I’ve learnt sooo much from you and eager still to learn more. Especially portraits and city scapes or landscapes!

Ruw Sha

Your tutorials are well done , simple and easy to follow . I appreciate the way you showing the reference photo in the background . Please do some tutorials of Australian flowers ,specially Gum blossoms . Thank you Louise

Dionne Conrad

Love everything you post! Love learning your techniques. I paint for a hobby/enjoyment but sometimes I do commissions for money. Don’t think I will ever make this a business though.

Jodi Ikert

I have learned so much more from your tutorials compared with others I have tried. Your entire approach and style of teaching is amazing.

Margaret Roberts

What a good idea! I’m retired, and don’t want “a job”, so definitely here for my own enjoyment and learning. That said, I have sold quite a few paintings over the last few years, which helps keep cost under control. I’ve “met” many people through your FB students’ page, and think of them as friends, travelling the same path. All in all, following you in Patreon is one of the best decisions I ever made. Thank you, Louise!

Kelle Luoma

I started purely because I “needed” to paint. I’d wanted to do something artistic for years, but my family always told me that I had no artistic talent. I tried in person classes at a local college, but was discouraged there as well. It wasn’t a good fit for style or subject matter. Then I found you on YT! I tried your hydrangea tutorial, and my results were good! You explained everything so well, the how and the why. I’ve gotten good enough that I’ve sold a couple of paintings. I don’t want to be a professional (too much work on the business and content development side) but a talented amateur who sells occasionally? That’s the sweet spot! Thank you for all that you do for us! ❣️❣️😍

Kelly Halligan

You are the best instructor and I identify with your paintings.! In the poll- I wish there was a middle position. I’m learning with the goal to learn and improve and also make some money selling my own paintings (which I do). I don’t want a business but I like a little extra income- and it gives me joy to actually sell a painting I created on my own

Corinne Armstrong

Your techniques, style and presentation is amazing and very easy to follow. I love your projects also very much. I painted the squirrel for my granddaughter and she loved it so much . We named him Peanut, it was part of a birthday gift I gave her for her 8th Birthday. Thanks you so much, and will continue.

Diana Fortier

You are a very good instructor. I’ve wanted to learn watercolor painting for a long while and now that I’m retired I am able to work on that goal. I’m not looking to make a business from this but would enjoy selling a painting once in awhile. I want to become more relaxed and more loose in my painting style.

Monalisa Mackey

Hi Louise, I have always worked in the Offshore Trust industry but it was never the career that I wanted for myself. I am a creative minded person and I wish to transition into a career of art and writing. I joined your Patreon because I love how you explain things so clearly and give so many valuable tips and tricks and words of encouragement. You present your teaching so professionally and I can see clearly what you are doing in your videos which is so important to me! I noted from the poll results so far that most people in your group are here as hobbyists and for personal enjoyment, but it would be nice to see a video now and again regarding your equipment and the business side of things or maybe you can find a way to incorporate little nuggets of information sometimes when you do your teaching videos. Thank you for so much amazing content and teaching and I really appreciate your dedication to your Patreon group 😊💕

Nancy Gosnell

I always said that "when I have time, I want to learn to how to paint in watercolour. I retired during Covid and decided that it was the perfect moment to learn and practice. I have enjoyed each painting. I would love to do more detailed paintings such as the hydrangea, sunflower and the galah. Thanks for providing such great tutorials. I always love getting the email announcing that there is a new painting to attempt.

Bonnie C

Louise I love your style of teaching. Thank you for all the work you put into the tutorials. I am still learning how to paint wet on wet and how to control my water. I hope one day to do commission work and build a business out of my paintings but right now I still have to learn how to paint. my answer to your question is both but right now I am still learning.

Norma Bishop

I am sketching and painting purely for my own pleasure, BUT I still strive to achieve professional quality. Your videos help in that effort. Thank you so much!

Amy

Definitely both for me, I’m nowhere near professional level but I would love to be at a standard where I could sell my work. Louise you explain everything so well, I really feel like I’m in an actual class just watching one of your videos, thank you so much 😊

Linda Lark

I have painted free-lance with oils for years. Covid brought me to watercolor and I fell in love. I want to improve and become as professional as possible--but not for profit. I'm retired and ready for fun.

D lonergan

I just started following you on Patreon, and am definitely in the hobby category, but want to be good enough that my kids don't groan when I gift them with a painting. I love how you used detail in some areas of a painting and let the imagination take over in other areas. It is a technique I am trying to master. Or at least improve upon.

Pam Teschner

Like others are saying, it's really both for me, but my main goal is to create quality watercolors for my Etsy shop and to give people as gifts. I so appreciate your teaching style and your "realness."

Bonnie Williams

I agree with many here —both would be my answer

MaggieC

I started painting and drawing after retirement, purely for my own pleasure. I am very new to it and find your teaching method excellent as you explain different methods so clearly. Thank you so much for your tutorials

Dee Smith

Both for me, Louise! I love the tutorials you do which teach the technique through guided practice. I have done some commissions and hope to do more pet portraits. I want to become more proficent with technique so I can apply it confidently. I believe the only way to learn is to paint but a blank page can be daunting and your step-by-step teaching instills confidence. Dee

Kathryn Wierima

I have no other desire than enjoyment with painting.

Gail Batten

I love the way you reach, I am enjoying learning, I also would someday like to gift my work.

Isabel Darwin

I think we may all aspire in some way to be as good as you. Thank you for sharing your amazing skills, your sense of humor, and for jump starting my watercolor journey.

Nancy Guenther

I started painting in 2020 during lockdown at age 77, so I’m 80 now. So I definitely want to learn as much as I can for personal fulfillment but that’s it. I’ve sold a few paintings without really trying to so that’s always a pleasant surprise and allows me to buy more supplies. I’ve tried many on line classes and you’ve taught me more than anyone else. You are a wonderful teacher, Louise! I always look forward to your lessons.

Louise De Masi

Thank you Sher! It's fantastic that you're pursuing a career as a professional artist specializing in commission pet and people portraits during your retirement.

Adriene Yvonne Harding

Louise, your precision and focus to detail are all inspiring. I love watercolor and to see how the magic of the paint and water play/dance together on the watercolor paper is like a Symphony. I am enjoying the challenge of painting each picture and would seek to become to a professional painter in my future.

Louise De Masi

Thank you for your kind words Leslie! I'm so happy to hear that you've already learned a lot in just a few days. Keep up the enthusiasm and enjoy your artistic journey!

Linda Best

Since joining my watercolor skills have improved considerably. I am now more confident trying to work on my own. I love how you describe and show the different paper wetness. I never knew how important that is. Simplifying color selections has also helped me keep from trying to use every color and made my work more cohesive.

Louise De Masi

I truly appreciate your kind words and support Mae. It's my pleasure to share my knowledge and help you along your artistic journey!

Louise De Masi

I am so grateful for your kind words and support Kirstin. I consider myself fortunate to be able to share my knowledge and passion with you. Thank you!

Louise De Masi

I'm glad that my approach has clicked with you. Your progress and enthusiasm are really inspiring, and I'm honoured to be a part of your artistic journey. Thank you Anne.

Sarah Archbold

My interest is in building on my skills for enjoyment, showing, or occasionally sales but not with intent of establishing a business or becoming professional.

Louise De Masi

Wow that's dedication Rachel and a sure way to improve! Well done to Mrs Cronk for encouraging you. Thank you - you'll be painting from your own photos in no time.

Louise De Masi

Thank you for your kind words Zoie. I'm very happy to know that.

Louise De Masi

It sure is Christine. For me, it makes the hard parts a little easier to handle. Thank you!

Louise De Masi

If you have the passion and drive, I'm sure it will. Thanks Melissa.

Louise De Masi

LOL- so true. I don't think others realise how much we pay for them....paper too! Thanks so much Denise.

Eunice Olson

Both, Louise. I got a degree in Art many years ago (I am 76) and painted watercolors for a few years but then had to let art take a backseat to working, family life, etc. Now that I am retired I found I had let my painting skills go too long. You have helped me bring it all back (plus some) with your attention to detail and meticulous teaching skills. I can't overstate how much I admire you and thank you for all the work you do for all of us, your students.

Jan Flynn

Louise, your tutorials are incredibly helpful and SO clear! You have a beautiful gift for teaching and clarity. I'm just learning how to use the techniques that you off in Patreon, but ultimately I'd like to sell my pieces. The annual Patreon fee is one of the best things I've done for my own artistic growth. Thank you!

Jennifer Robinson

Although a hobbyist, would like to become as technically expert and aesthetically sophisticated as I can. Louise, you have been an amazing teacher helping me achieve these goals. Thank you!

Dawn Riley

I joined because you inspire me. I am inspired by your art, your subject choices, your colour choices & your interpretation of those choices, your artistic style and your uncluttered workspace. For me your easy teaching style and the professional quality of your tutorials are icing on the cake.

Binary Circus

I’m another in the both options camp, thank you!

evelyne giovannoni

I d ont no yet its now ten years i paint watercolour i began with billy schowell and you for all the birds i am 66 its always a big joy to paint but i live in south of france and i like to sell some personel painting not courses to pay the furnitures its become expensive thanks a lot louise

Basia

A new hobby for me, always loved art, started to learn to draw and then progressed to Watercolours. Like others, I deeply appreciate your way of teaching, there are very few artists who are great teachers, especially online. You always understand the exact nature of the student's difficulties and present clear solutions in how to solve them. Many Thanks.

Cathy H

I'd like to start at the first level and gradually progress to the next.

Lynn’s Patreon

Hopefully to become a better artist and eager to try to obtain this.

Gael Burton

I enjoy the classes with you Louise its my hobby and teaches me self enjoyment

Gael Burton

thank you its been a great challenge and at 72 its just perfect

Patti Matthiessen

Enjoying a hobby after retiring. However, I would like to sell a few just to help me replenish supplies. Love your way of teaching.

Tyler Blake

I've been drawing for over 30 years but always felt intimidated by watercolor. I do comics and some paleoart on the side, and I want to apply what I learn about painting birds to my feathered dinosaurs. I use markers on my comics but I'm hoping getting better with watercolor will improve my skill over all.

JOANN BURKHARDT

I am very happy and excited to be tutored by Louise and her videos. She is the real deal who has shared her own journey and aspirations and shown us that we can improve and develop our artistic skills with very satisfying results. I am so grateful for Louise and her hard work!

Judy Schaefer

I started painting during the pandemic so three years now. I have painted every one of your tutorials Louise. I painted two cats on commission but I never want to do that again, way too stressful. I am going to be 80 years old and plan to retire in October. I hope to paint for the rest of my life. I would estimate that I have done over 700 paintings including practice ones. I am slowly getting better

Christine Campbell

Didn't know how to answer this q: I am a watercolor teacher with an already established business, but my primary reason for being a patreon is to keep on learning. I love your style, and I always pick up little bits of advice.

Jack Schupp

Like your style. I will always be learning. Keep up the great teaching style.

Deborah L Shehane

I make watercolor cards to hold the letters I send to people. It's tricky miniaturizing your paintings- always a challenge to decide what to leave out- but I love doing it. The recipients appreciate them even if they are sometimes a bit wonky. That said, I have also painted two small pictures for my living room wall, too. I have learned so much from your tutorials. Thank you, Louise!

Michelle Gibson

I love your mix of loose washes with detailed painting.

Danna Fullilove

I love your tutorials! Thank you so much for doing them.

Elizabeth R Gambaccini

I want to be able to capture the beauty of nature through the beautiful medium of watercolor.

Simi

hey Louise. could you make tutorial on how to paint light? like a lamp post at night. I have tried a couple of tutorials on YouTube but they don't explain like you do.

Ann Smith

Hello Louise. I love your tutorials and under your instruction have improved out of sight. Would you consider more portraits in the future. Thank you Louise.

Fiona Edmonds

Love the tutorials you do. I would love to see more seascapes and landscapes. Thank you for making learning available no matter where we live.

Beth

I took oil painting lessons for 5 years and learned so much about color theory. Then covid hit and I began taking online watercolor classes through Zoom. I fell in love with watercolor and have been working in that medium since. I love your detail painting and learn from all of your tutorials. It would be nice to learn from some Unsplash or Pixabay pictures so if a friend wanted to buy a painting, I could sell it to them. This would boost my confidence also.

Edit M

Actually I started out as a hobby but I might want to do it professionally. It would be nice to know how to switch and slowly grow to be a professional artist. So much to consider. I love the paste and details of your classes and projects. Thank you for your time and effort.E.M

Teresa Pischedda

I just signed to your patreon, after been watching your YouTube. I am already painting Watercolour since a while, but have the feeling I have still a lot to learning. I started as a hobby painter but I am starting thinking what is all involved on becoming a professional artist

Doris Power

Hello Louise, I am currently a serious watercolour artist and am now showing my work in two juried galleries. I paint at home and twice a week outside my home with fellow artists in various mediums. I was introduced to you by one of them and through my Patreon membership with you I am learning much from you. My subjects include landscapes, seascapes, flowers, birds and mammals. I so appreciate your amazing skill and willingness to share with us. Thank you!

Libby Padovan

Hi Louise, I've been following you on Patreon for a couple of years. I've no prior experience with drawing or painting. I have learnt a great deal from your tutorials here and on skillshare. People have suggested I could sell some of the art I've painted, still a bit scared to put myself out there. It all started as a hobby/interest but would love to be able to have people want to purchase a piece of my work. I very much appreciate all the time and effort you put into your tutorials, I've not come across anyone who explains the process as well as you do. Finding my own style or spin on things is a bit tricky, but I'll keep on keeping on. Thank you.

Anne Marie Reynolds

Hi Louise, I've always loved watercolor and now that I'm retired I've decided to learn how to paint with watercolor. I love your videos and instruction my only issue is that I don't know why the paint is doing certain things, for example, I tried your feather watercolor for beginners and my feathers are "blotchy" and not "smooth" I'm guessing my consistency of water to paint ratio is different or maybe I go over an area without waiting for it to dry! I don't really know and I don't have anyone to show and ask. Can we upload images on this site to get your feedback? Another question I have is I've taken another watercolor online course and it seems that if I just paint my picture it turns out better then when I try to paint the way the artist did his, I'm not sure if that makes me not a good watercolor artist or if my "style" is just different. Would love your thoughts. Thanks so much.

Louise De Masi

Hi Anne Marie, It could be a number of things making them blotchy. It could be your paper, your paint consistency, your brush size or you could be fussing too much (too many brush stokes). It is really difficult to paint like someone else particularly if you have your own style. I think it's great that your painting turns out better than when you try to follow the other artist. That means you are developing your own style so go with it. A lot of people have the opposite problem. Their paintings turn out great when they do a tutorial but when they try to do a painting themselves, not so much. There is nowhere here on Patreon to share paintings which is why we have the Discord group and the Facebook group. You can upload photos of your paintings in those groups. If you join, send me a quick message and I can have a look for you. Thanks!

I paint as a hobby right now BUT, I love to learn and would love to know how to start making a business out of it. If I’m just doing little Instagrams, you tube shorts… or selling my art. I think learning how to put yourself out there is the most valuable thing. You are by far my favorite teacher! You teach so well! I hope someday you offer retreats! I will try so hard to come! You must warn us to save if you do! Thanks Louise!

Yes dawn! I agree!

I'm here for hobby painting. I love painting botanicals but would love some real life... a tea cup and such with maybe a piece of fruit.

I am enjoying the tutorials so far and would welcome some landscapes as well. Thank you for all you do.

Marcie Bader

My interest is in your current work that seems to appear only briefly in some YT videos.

I thought for a while about which patreon to join, obviously lots of artists have them. But I felt that yours was the one that would truly teach me, and that I would take steps to creating much better quality artwork, rather than just copying someone else's pretty picture - which is also fine, but not my aim! I particularly liked that you teach wet on wet, and that is a huge skills to get right. Going forward I hope to apply your techniques to some of my own chosen images. Yesterday I painted your white cat, white subjects are a big goal for me.

I am new to watercolouring, so which of your videos should I start with first. I absolutely love your work, it appeals to me so much and your instructions on the videos make everything easy to follow.

Hi Marilyn, Thanks so much. This post here might help with where to start: patreon.com/posts/77109094 Let me know if you need help.

I find that your in depth explanation of how much water, how much paint and how to do it, is a great help rather than have to guess how much. I am the sort of person who needs to see rather than just guess what is needed. Thank you very much

I am mostly new to watercolour, oil and dry pastel being my mainstay and graphite and charcoal secondary. I discovered your lessons especially combining watercolour with graphite or ink and that interests me especially since I am illustrating a childrens book and think this combination may prove to be the best solution. Also it is all about animals and that is my primary interest. Also you instructions are clear and step by step

I am new to watercolor. By surfing through you tube channel, to compare with the other artists I figured out how you are passionate and professional in your work and how your instructions are clear and understandable for a person like me. English is my second language and I not only understand you, but also I get a good feeling and encouragement from you. 🙏

I love your teaching method. how much water, best brushes and sizes, all step by step is very encouraging. I have learned paint brands and good brushes really make a difference. I paint oils but there are some pictures that to me just must be in watercolor. I did take a class but you are so much better explaining the why that you do what you do. I am interested also in landscapes and maybe with people in them? I do think you are awesome and I love all the pictures I have learned so much just from watching you. Thank you and looking forward to more.
