It doesn't seem in character for Jack to be petty but I guess I get him wanting to mess momentarily with someone who messed with his heart and others and didn't appear to care/is still making decisions to hurt others. Maybe he was even testing if she has feelings to some degree. He might not want to let himself keep caring for someone antisocial or allow her in his son's life.

That Jack and Emily/Amanda scene was awkward and bit sloppy writing-wise, but when I first saw it I took it as he knew either way he didn't care about the outcome but still tried to "feel" something. It would've been better to play it out over a few episodes. Also, Season 3 and 4 are my favorites with Season 3 a little higher.
