you pretty much pegged Izzy's deal: he obviously has certain...feelings...for Ed but he doesn't want to admit them, even to himself. you can really see it clearly in that scene when he caught Lucius and Black Pete. he wasn't just being a dick; he saw them enjoying themselves freely and openly and it made him upset because he thinks he will never be able to have that, nor should he in his mind. the internalized homophobia with Izzy is real.
