In this situation the best strategy for the aliens is to be more generous with vanessa reducing the hunger, growing more slowly while they divert most of the calories from the food to gaining more influence over her mind while sacrificing their growth until vanessa sees the brood as something to be protected. Then ramping up the hunger and focusing on their growth. Or they could break down some of Vanessa body that isnt required for her survival along with sacrificing some of the milk her body has produced and diverting that resource into further entrenching their influence within her.
