I scanned Stephen DeStefano's storyboard for the Welcome to Eltingville opening title sequence. I'll be posting it here in the next day or two.

In other news, my father died last week. So things have been weird. Not sad. Well, sad, but not in the way someone might expect. Like my sister said, it's a sadness for what might have been. My father is undeserving of my sadness. I would not have gone to his funeral if it was held downstairs in my dining room. As it was, he got dumped or cremated or whatever way out in Hawaii. I don't know what Hawaii did wrong to get him, but I was glad he was far away from NYC.

Some of you may have seen my posts on social media about this situation. If you haven't, basically, I just wanted to let folks know I was in a weird space and that no condolences were, or are, necessary. I'm only sad because I'm not sad that my father died. I'm sad for what could have been. I'm sad for a sister and brother who grew up without a father, even though they saw him every Sunday. I'm sad for other reasons. I may be a mess but at least I'm not like him.

I'm also sad it killed a week of my time. Today I got some things done. I scanned some art and the storyboard stuff. I drew a little. I played Animal Crossing. I cleaned up the studio some. I called in some prescription refills.  I did some laundry. I ate dinner and watched a movie with my cat asleep on my stomach. I boxed up some books to make room for other books. I posted to the Patreon. I wrote this.

Tomorrow's another day.

Well, I'm sorry to hear that. Protestations aside, I can't imagine it's possible to be truly unaffected by a parent's death. When my dad died it was like the void had opened beneath my feet, like I suddenly discovered that our parents are the only thing standing between us and it, and that we're inevitably next. And I found that it expressed itself in odd ways, at odd times, for a while. Be kind to yourself, is I guess all I'm saying.

Yeah, that's definitely part of the weird feeling this past week. It's also depressing to have lost both sets of grandparents, an aunt and now a father, and barely be emotionally touched by any of it. I've cried more over my cats being put down than all those people combined. I have a (largely) emotionally damaged family, so I guess death not being a "normal" situation for us, emotionally speaking, makes sense. It's sad to not have had the connections that I've seen in other families. I mourn lost possibilities and a childhood that implanted a lack of self-worth and confidence. I think maybe that's why some folks like the idea of actual alternate universes, where a version of us might be free of our baggage. On Earth -whatever I didn't ruin that second Adult Swim pilot, I took jobs I was afraid of failing at, I approached TV agents, I got my work in on time, I was nicer to people and not defensive and judgmental, I didn't freak out, flip out, act out. I'd like to meet Alt-Evan in a crossover and get some tips. And meet his family, who would be worth mourning.

I recall that comic about how your only connection was him buying you comics and leaving you and your sister otherwise alone was very familiar to me as well. I don't know who I would have been with my father in my life but it's whatever

Good for you for taking care of yourself.
