Hello hello, patrons old and new! As always, a big THANKS for all your support and for joining me here this month, which is April. To Pen Pal patrons, your ink drawings will be shipped off in the next day or two. Here is ONE of the drawings being sent, which I have digitally coloured. It's a dinosaur evolving into a bird! This is what it looked like, on the day when the dinosaurs all decided to do that. Pretty bold move, I wonder if they knew what they were getting into!

It remind me of "A Martian Odyssey" by Stanley G. Weinbaum. The story always stuck with me even if I needed to refresh the exact title and author. It was one of the few stories that treated an encounter with an alien intelligence as not necessarily something malevolent or indifferent while still showing the reader that there could be possible and even very likely limitations to what we could conceive of a foreign intelligence's mode of thoughts and objectives

I hope I get pen pal some at some point

They could never have known, poor things, but good on them for coming up with new ideas! Perhaps without them, we wouldn't have even thought of the concept of flight ourselves...

I wonder if the birds will all decide to turn back soon?

I was having lunch with a crow yesterday, and happened to really look at his feet, and that's where you really see the dinosaur lineage in birds. Bird feet look very dino-like. It's also fascinating how all the things that grow out of animal skin - feathers, scales, nails, horns, fur, hair - are all made of α-Keratin protein. As is the structure of skin itself. Feathers are just modified scales. It's so amazing that there are so many varieties and colours of feathers, scales, horns, fur, and hair - but it's all just variations on a theme. All these endless expressions of a single protein - and it's pretty much all you see when you look at any vertebrate animal. You're looking at various forms of α-Keratin.

reminds me of a Mario monster, bug cursed.
