I really admire you. I wanted to draw pictures like yours, so I downloaded your clip, analyzed each layer one by one, and copied your technique to create my own drawing. It ended up taking me two weeks. I think you probably finish a drawing in about a week. How can I draw as quickly as you do?

I think for the most part it's about getting into a rhythm of it to draw fast. I've been drawing for a decade now so I naturally got efficient doing it. I already have a set of things planned out on how to make a standard illustration: sketch->base color->early render->effects->lineart->finished render->cleanup and paint-overs. I already have a mental map of where layers are and how I group them. I have multiple hotkeys mapped for every brush and action I usually need. References and models for an easier composition of the entire drawing. Small things like that helps lessen the time needed to finish an illustration. Main thing is always the skill. The better you are at drawing, the less mistake you do. The less mistake you do, the faster you finish. The earlier you decide on how the final image should look, the lesser time experimenting. That's not to say taking your time or being slow is bad. I've discovered a good chunk of my routine from being extremely slow and experimenting with what works or what doesn't. Don't feel bad because you're taking too long to finish a drawing, because that's a learning step in becoming better. If you really do not like that it takes you a lot of time to finish an illustration, then try drawing just the face, or upper body. Draw until you get into a groove, or finish them in a good amount of time consistently. Then you can branch out to drawing half body, or even full, or making your art style more complex. I'm not a professional so don't take my words to heart too much, just a nugget of wisdom from a fellow artist.

Thank you so much for your very thoughtful reply. So you’ve been drawing for 10 years now. That’s amazing. It’s because of all the experience you’ve built up over the years that you’re able to create such high-quality artwork in such a short time. It’s such an obvious thing—something I’d realize if I just took a moment to think about it calmly—but before I knew it, I’d spent so much time on a single drawing that I got discouraged and ended up asking you a question. Your reply really encouraged me. I’ll keep working hard, one step at a time. I’ll continue to learn from your clips.
