Hey Patrons!
Man, this one has been a long time coming. Even with the added "Production Blog" on this episode of Greatest Hits I feel like you folks have been out of the loop on this project.
The reason is clear - the game that won the vote was a big ask. Thief is an important game with a magnetic field around it that attracts so much of PC gaming history from that era. The result is that I spend months tracking down people and booking time to talk. I interviewed over a dozen people for this one and conducted more email research than I've ever done before. All to try and detangle the myth of Looking Glass and give a fresh perspective on the story of one of gaming's most beloved series.
On tomorrow's production meeting I'm going to talk about it all and answer whatever questions you have. The doc is about 10 days from finish so I can show you a bunch of it too.
How can I watch / get involved?
Well first of all you don't have to turn up, fully researched with a notepad and pen. These are meant to be a patron reward, not homework. So there are loads of ways to help us out or just enjoy the content, including;
- Give us suggestions and ideas in the comments below. We will bring them up in the meeting even if you are not there.
- Join live and ask questions in the chat. It's all about collaboration in these things so get involved if you want!
- Just join the stream and lurk. We have plenty to discuss between ourselves so feel free to just hang out and listen.
- Watch the VOD after the live event. We'll keep the stream punchy and entertaining so it's a fun watch for those of you who can't be there live. This post functions as the scheduling notice, the embed for the live event, and the VOD. So just come back here to watch it.
So what is the focus of tomorrow's meeting?
Tomorrow is a catchup meeting for the whole project. I'll let you know who we talked to and who we didn't. The amount of the documentary we focus on the different games. I want to take some feedback on what to do with all the cutting room floor stuff - because there is a lot of it and a lot of it is really good. Also it's a good time to look at the Greatest Hits format and how we can stop production creep like this next time. I've got some ideas on that myself.
Mostly I just want to share with you all we talked about and get you excited for what it is easily the best retrospective we've ever worked on. The documentary is well over an hour and packed full of good stuff.
Talk tomorrow taffers!
Danny
