Hello Patrons,

This one is coming hot out of the oven as I wanted to quickly catch up on all the craziness going on over here. In this video I talk about our plans for a new studio, a return to big studio docs, growing Noclip Crew, the busy summer that was, and much more.

I also wanted to take this moment to touch base with with you all on how we've been doing this past year. As we move back into a proper filming space and plan the next six months of docs I wanted to get a read on what you think of how we're doing so if you could answer in the comments we'd really appreciate it.

How satisfied are you with Noclip's public content?

How satisfied are you with your patron exclusives?

What documentary work you like to see us do in the future?

Do you watch/listen to the podcast or Noclip Crew?

What would you like to see more of on Crew?

Any other suggestions?

I'm checking out studios next week so hopefully I'll have some updates sooner rather than later.

Thank you for your continued support. I can't thank you enough for getting us through the past two years. The real fun starts now.

Danny

A Video about Embracer like an interview with the CEO Lars Wingefors would be very interesting. What is the goal behind this enormous amount of acquisition? Why is Embracer different from other Gaming Companies?

Brandon K Gann

Hey Danny! Per your request in the post, I wanted to answer the questions you posed: Across the board, I'm completely satisfied with all of NoClip's content, public and Patreon. As always, the docs are all super good, covering a diverse amount of games and studios, so it's never dull and always informative and entertaining. As far as doc work, that's hard for me to answer, because of the variety of what's being made. The large scale docs on studios and games, embedded with a developer chronicling a game's development, insights from developers on how they designed their games, plus all the other things you discussed in the last Patron show about making a game to focus on the business side of stuff that doesn't get talked about (which I'm SUPER fascinated by and can't wait to see the outcome). So as unhelpful as this is/I am, maintaining the current format is a-ok for me. And if you want to change things up and make stuff new, I'm down for that too, because as I've said many times and I'll continue to say it: I believe in NoClip's mission. Pertaining to NoClip Crew and the Podcast, it entirely depends on what I watch. For things like JayneDev and Developer Breakdown, I don't miss those as they're pretty unique and I like to value that kind of thing when I have limited free time. Crew feels small and not as frequent, which I actually really appreciate because whenever something does get posted, it's never a major time commitment. Which leads me to the podcast, which I'm sad to report I've fallen off of because of the aforementioned limited free time. Aside from NoClip, I watch NINE other podcasts every week, watch several one-off videos, watch all other NoClip content, find time to play some games, and all of that squeezed around a full-time job, so the podcast has become a casualty of making hard cuts because I don't have the time I used to. That doesn't mean I won't pop in from time to time if I see a topic I just HAVE to hear the team's take on (like I do for a couple other podcasts I've had to stop listening to regularly), but regrettably, I haven't been able to keep up. No other suggestions from me (which I'm sure lends to a, "yeah, great, thanks for writing in. Not helpful though."), but from my perspective, it goes to show the high quality across the board NoClip puts out consistently, and I'm always excited to see a NoClip video pop up in my Subscriptions. Keep up the awesome work and I'm really fired up about the gradual return of a studio, major docs in person, and other projects. Have a great day!

Hi Danny, I'm glad that you're happy with your new place and the opportunities that come with it. Talking about noclip I'm a bit torn. Qualitywise I really love everything noclip puts out and some of the new formats of noclip CREW easily became some of my favourite videos you ever did. But I can't help but feel that there is so much going on, that noclip kind of overstretches - "Like butter scraped over too much bread." After a decent start of Greatest Hits with three episodes the series kind of lost its track - because of reasons you that are out of control of noclip. And now there are so many new series, formats and channels, that I'm worried about any kind of schedule. Obviously I have no insight into your production process, but your excitement for a new project or idea always comes with the fear of just too much work to continuously put out videos for all of them. So, take care of yourself and don't take on more than you can handle. And we will be happy to accompany you on your journey. PS I just finished the "Light & Magic" Doc on Disney+ and would really love for someone to make something similar for Lucasfilm Games/LucasArts... someone really close to the Skywalker Ranch...

Eduardo Engel Balle

Hi Danny, Love the content, and some of the NoClip Crew content has become one of my favorite, because they become a bite sized video which you can watch quickly, but at the same time it's very interesting and informative. I was already a fan a long time before I committed myself to be a Patreon, and I actually regret not becoming a Patreon earlier. The long sized documentaries are a favorite because of the added value they add, and when they happen it always bright my day. I would love a documentary with some of my favourite games, like Valheim, Darkest Dungeon, FTL.

Right on, glad you were able to enjoy some time away with the family. Hopefully you're able to find a studio space you're happy with this week. Best of luck🤞

Awesome that you will have studio! And about what we want...: You just said you will be doing what I want.... it is documentaries in big studios. Last offtopic question what is this purple book on this clip(This uder "The Making of Prince of Persia")?

As far as extra content beyond the docs, I really enjoy the podcasts and Jayne Dev. I like knowing that the Discord channel is there, but I don't keep up with it very well. I'm more curious about some of the indie developers who started from small beginnings, but it's really cool getting a brief view into the larger studios too. After sifting through my Steam library a bit to get some ideas that I don't think have been covered so far, here's a few things I'd love to see in no particular order. 1. Origins of Counter Strike and other other mods like Day of Defeat and the modding culture 2. In a similar vein - DOTA from a Warcraft 3 mod to the MOBA genre 3. Oddworld Franchise 4. The group behind Limbo and Inside 5. Hollowknight guys seem hard to catch, so that'd be cool 6. Cuphead guys 7. Eric Barone from Stardew Valley, his story and where is he now with Haunted Chocolatier Can't wait to see what comes next. Good luck with the studio hunt.

How satisfied are you with Noclip's public content? Very! I'm loving Crew and all the regular work y'all are still doing. Plus the podcast is killer - it would be cool to see Jesse on some Crew material! How satisfied are you with your patron exclusives? I pay the $5 tier, so I don't get a ton. I like just being in the Discord and staying connected as I can with what you're working on. What documentary work you like to see us do in the future? You're already doing it with another series! But I'm terms of what games? I'll say Ben Esposito (Neon White/Donut County), Team Cherry, or an update from Subset with Into the Breach Advanced Edition. Do you watch/listen to the podcast or Noclip Crew? Yes! Both! What would you like to see more of on Crew? Jesse and Frank! Or just goofy stuff even. Let chaos reign on that channel, haha. Any other suggestions? Nah, not this time

I don't pay much attention at all to anything NoClip posts unless it is a new doc. Then, I just look at the title of the video and decide whether or not I'm going to watch it. I don't get excited for many of the videos because they cover games or studios I don't care much about. I just feel most of them tread the same ground. The two videos that got me to become a Patreon were the series on Doom (2106) and the video on Frog Fractions. I thought the Doom series was interesting for many reasons- a new studio embracing the idea of recapturing the magic of the original Doom, a big part of it being the music design/composing. Yes, the personality of Hugo Martin was a draw as well. Frog Fractions was a good one, too- how an odd unknown Easter egg of a game found its place. I wish a lot more emphasis was placed on how the sausage is made AND moreso on the design choices and things that inform those decisions. But, I suppose I have the GDC YouTube channel for that? I wish some of the videos were more broad in scope and not just about one game or one studio. Topics like accessibility, retro gaming and video game preservation, the birth of the text adventure and current state of interactive fiction, local multiplayer gaming and arcades, modding/cheating/hacking, speedrunning (maybe the history and the business side of Games Done Quick), eSports as a spectator sport and the business behind it, VR and AR (and the metaverse), legal and ethical issues in video games (loot boxes, pay to win, crypto/block chain) ESRB ratings and localization and censorship issues, exclusivity deals behind the scenes, crossover markets (game devs making board games), etc., etc. I'll continue supporting NoClip just because I just want to support documenting video game history and preservation. I don't know what NoClip Crew is.

**How satisfied are you with Noclip's public content?** **How satisfied are you with your patron exclusives?** You are guys are weapons (an idiom I learned from an Irish hiking guide :D), and put out a mammoth amount of public and patreon content. So completely satisfied. I support a YouTuber via YT’s members function ($13/month) and he produces nothing extra. So, I think you all go out your way to produce a ton of value and really show you care about keeping Patrons happy. **What documentary work you like to see us do in the future?** After watching Jayne Dev, it could be interesting to do a series on game mechanics where you talk with a variety of developers about a single mechanic. For example, Ive always been curious if its art or science to how they choose the number of hit points that are taken off. It’ll be something like 17 and I always wonder why not 18 or 19? More in line with typical studio / game centered docs, something on VR and its challenges could be interesting, esp as PS VR 2 gets closer to release. **Do you watch/listen to the podcast or Noclip Crew?** Yes to both. Podcast every week on my long runs and videos whenever they’re out. I even submitted an email that made it into the podcast. If Frank or Jeremy ever got around to watching Love, Death and Robots, or if you Danny have ever watched it, Id be curious to know their / your thoughts! **What would you like to see more of on Crew?** Looking forward to content from others on the team. **Any other suggestions?** Keep up the great work!

I know what I would like to see: Profiles(I mean interview with that person and others similar to this with John Romero) of Important persons from gamedev industry: Mayamoto, Romero, Carmack, Cliff Bleszinski, Ken Silverman, Sid Meier, Gabe Newell, Peter Molyneux, Hugo Martin, Tim Sweeney, Marcin Iwiński, Brenda Romero, Roberta Williams and more.

Hey noclip team, I have always loved the docs, however, the podcast is what I find myself being excited for every weekend. I think that having you guys together in the studio with video would be great! I think that having some screenshots of the games that are being discussed would be cool too. JJ dev has also piqued my interest, I enjoy living vicariously through Jeremy as he pursues his passion. I hope the new studio is, at least, as cool as the last. Keep up the great work!

- How satisfied are you with Noclip's public content? Always love everything you put out, it's why I'm here in the first place! - How satisfied are you with your patron exclusives? They don't really bother me one way or another, I guess. I listen to the patron podcast episodes and watch the patron shows, but that's about it. I never watch the documentaries early, and nothing in the higher tiers interests me, but all of that's fine. I'm really just happy to help fund the documentaries. - What documentary work you like to see us do in the future? Nothing specifically. I like a good mix, and I think that's what's been happening. - Do you watch/listen to the podcast or Noclip Crew? Yes, though (no offense!) the podcast always ends up at the bottom of my feed, as it's become a very similar format as a few other gaming podcasts I was already listening to. That's not to say I don't enjoy it when I do catch up on it though! I'm loving Noclip Crew though! - What would you like to see more of on Crew? Again, nothing specifically. Well, other than more JayneDev as soon as possible please. 😊

>How satisfied are you with Noclip's public content? Very! >How satisfied are you with your patron exclusives? The fact that I'm not sure what is exclusive tells me that the quality is high across the board. >What documentary work you like to see us do in the future? Perhaps more about specific jobs within game studios? It's interesting seeing the super talented generalists making indie titles, but I'd love a deep-dive into art or animation or writing or something along those lines at a AA/AAA studio. >Do you watch/listen to the podcast or Noclip Crew? Noclip Crew. Too many podcasts in my life already! >What would you like to see more of on Crew? Behind the scenes about the way you work.

I would like to see more guilty treasures with the giantbomb crew and extended family

Erik

* I’m very satisfied with your public content. I don’t always like the studios you cover, but I’ve found their story interesting regardless. * I honestly wouldn’t mind if discord was the only thing patron exclusive. I want your videos to be seen by as many people as possible. That said I like the extended interviews you’ve put out. Don’t really care for video game movie reviews on the podcast to be honest. That might just be me though since I rarely watch any video game movies. * I’d like to see you guys do retrospectives on some of my favorite games: Red Dead Redemption, Bioshock, Majora’s Mask, Sly Cooper, Cuphead, Disco Elysium, Mass Effect series, Ico, Shadows of the Colossus, Metal Gear series, The Stanley Parable, and Spyro. Also an actual doc on the Echoes of the Eye DLC for Outer Wilds would be awesome. Anything on the point and click adventures of yore (Monkey Island, Day of the Tentacle, Full Throttle, Sam & Max series). Something about the downfall of Telltale Games would be interesting. * I love the podcast and enjoy the shorter form docs on Crew. * Crew might be a good place for more niche docs on some point and click games, platformers and retrospectives. I honestly enjoy having the second channel as more of an experimental space though. Jayne Dev is so dope! Keep up the incredible work everybody!

Thomas Gerardin

Very satisfied with noclip that’s for sure. Long form interviews with interesting developers. In my opinion one of your greatest work is the witness doc with Jonathan blow. That sort of content is really great. On that note, very niche suggestion : could you release the complete interview of Mark Lampert at Bethesda ? He was very interesting and I feel he probably had much more to say. In any case thanks for everything and keep it up.
