Hey Patrons,

I'll keep this brief as I'm already deep into editing tomorrow's episode but the first in our DOOM series is now live for your eyeballs. At almost 30 minutes it  chronicles the life of id Software, the cancellation of DOOM 4 (with first ever gameplay footage) and the inception of DOOM 2016.

Let me know what you think.

Danny

Fucking awesome first part, can't wait to see more! :)

Josh in Tampa

Wow Danny WOW. So good man! keep it up!

Domen Kozelj

Amazing first part! Congratulations Danny!

Kenneth Høgh

It just brings a big smile to me, the production quality and the genuine love for this game and the company shows clearly, really interessting to see hear more about Doom 4's history. can't wait for the next part. Ps. Hugo Martin sounds like the greatest Dad :)

Poisonmonkey

Brilliant Danny, just brilliant, cannot wait for parts 2 and 3

Joel Munt

That bit about his kid playing DOOM had me cracking up.

Aaron

Great job. I don't know who these people are, most of the time. Can you put more occasional name plates with job titles on the talking heads? My only complaint. Thanks.

Jeff Freeman

You did it again Danny! I don't even care about doom and never played the old games but this is still so good and captivating stuff. You truly have a talent and it just makes me even more excited to see what comes next! Bravo!

Brandon K Gann

The doc on Rocket League was really great, yet my love for DOOM is short only of a couple of other things. This was so awesome to see and I'm even more excited for the next two episodes. All of the DOOM 4 footage and getting to see the Quake-Con reveal were personal highlights. I'm going to be saying this a lot but: Fantastic job Mr. O'Dwyer. My thanks to yourself and everyone at id who made this happen.

Jonas Lindelöf

Yeah I really liked the Rocket League Doc but this is just AMAZING! sure im a big DOOM fan but that first ep was super interesting, that Quakecon reaval was so cool i had goosebumps all over. can't wait for ep 2 and 3! Fantastic work Danny you will have my support for as long a you wanna do this.

Henri Jokinen

Ok, this was the last nail in the coffin. I became a patreon after years of being a fan(through gamespot, maybe in 2012?). Keep up the good work Danny+crew. Amazing quality, as always. Thank you!

Ashley Deane

Absolutely amazing work Danny, looking forward to the rest!

Kev Dellaq

Brilliant, just brilliant. You mentioned a wee while back that you weren't sure how much of yourself to put into the videos and wanted the story to tell itself: my personal opinion is that it works great with you "driving" the video like you do here. I hope this is the format you stick with. Can't wait for episode 2!

Mohammed Taher

Great work, Danny! Loved the episode. Can't wait for tomorrow's big one.

Archer

Nice drone shots at the beginning Danny! I can't imagine how much time it takes to edit all of this on your own, but one of the reasons I supported you is that your passion is contagious. Can't wait for part 2!

MeatCastle GameWare

That 1.0 footage and the whole QuakeCon bit was especially awesome to have included. I remember that being such a mysterious event when it happened.

Garin

Great work, Danny! I just finally got around to pledging, but the Doom and RL docs have really been fascinating! I can't wait to see what is next!

Tom Grundy

This is so goddamn good.

Chris McCarthy

This is awesome, can't wait for parts 2 & 3.

Tohir Tillyaev

Great job man. Very interesting story and again I'm learning about the games I liked but now appreciate on a whole different level. Looking forward for part 2 and 3.

Brandon Schapekahm

I can' t imagine the pressure a team is under trying to stay true to something like DOOM. I look forward to hearing about it though! Thanks Danny!

Brett Geiser

Genuinely fabulous job Danny. I am so glad to be able to contribute a bit to keeping you telling these stories.

Clay A Binkley

If only I could get this much joy for $5 everywhere...

Thomas Munkholt

I want to see those patrons/per month go through the roof. Now! So well-deserved.

Bavo Debraekeleer

Oh man, nice build up to the next part, can't wait!

Lars Robin

Awesome, signed up as a patron immediately.

Bryan Deijnum

Danny. Thank you so much for making this. I actually got emotional watching it. It's exactly what I wanted to see in a documentary of Doom. This was amazing.

JMR

Great work! Keep em coming.

Andreas Hedberg

Every video you put out just oozes professionalism. And as an added bonus they're really interesting. I think I shall up my donations if there's a way to do that.

Colby Perry

I waited until the evening to watch this on my TV versus work computer and it was waaaaaaaay worth it! The footage of DOOM 4! Can't wait for today & tomorrow's part Danny.

Justin Deguire

Great vid! Looking forward to part 2

KP

Well, I'll add this Doom game to my backlog, then.

Piotr Kostecki

Both parts rule! Waiting for the final one :)

Nick Turner

Looking forward to part 3... the music is what really makes DOOM for me, it's absolutely perfect. the moment you first open the doors and see the barren landscape around the facility, the guitar riff finishes and the protagonist cocks his gun barrel in time with the end of the riff... I was in love!

Science Fiction Rating System

One of my favourite pieces of games journalism was a PC Gamer(UK) article about iD around the release of Doom 2 where they spent pages and pages interviewing the various developers. Tragic I've had to wait 20+ years for something that felt as in depth and professional to surface again. Signed up here straight after watching, fantastic work. Cheers!

Danny, i can not thank you enough for you venturing out on your own and doing something like this. the moment you announced that you were leaving gamespot and were on Giant Bombs UPF saying that you were doing something on your own, i was very intrigued. after you did the NoClip trailer announcing your plans to make video game documentaries, i was instantly hooked. you are my first patreon subscription, and so far i have enjoyed everything you are putting out and i eagerly await your next videos and histories to be told. keep putting you nose to the ground and delivering like i know you will. ill always support you and your en devours. cheers brother! ...also if there is a way you can do a history on Rockstar or the GTA series, i would love you more than i do now! :)
