Hello Patrons!

My new interview podcast DEAR DWYERY is gonna launch in the next month or so and we're lining up interviewees for the first few episodes. Think of it as a one-on-one interview podcast with all-time game developers, up and coming indies, journalists, streamers, YouTubers and more. Pleasantly edited with some scripted parts in there to let you know about the game/person we're talking about.

With that all said, I'd love to know who you would like to hear on the podcast?

What games have we not covered on Noclip that would make for a good interview? Which gaming personality would you like to hear from? What job within the industry would you enjoy learning more about?

Answers in the comments folks, and if you like anybody else's answer give them a ❤️.

We will definitely be pulling from this list.

- Danny

PS: Shout out to Jeff Delgado for the insane podcast art. It turned out better and more deranged than I could have imagined.

haha, yes I did spell my surname wrong in the original post :D

Pocket Vinyl (band) & The Touring Test (comic)

An interview with Dunkey where you ask him about all the ethics behind him starting a game company (like that video you posted a while back) I think would be fascinating, if he'd be up for that kind of thing

Brainfreeze

Alright, pull my arm, I'll be a guest!

Mark Rojas

Austin walker, Patrick klepick

GMTK

Mark Rojas

Janet Garcia, Gita jackson

Erik Sagen

Notch, in all seriousness. Would love a retrospective if he’s in a good state of mind.

Jonathan Beckham

I think it would be cool to hear some shop talk with other long form YouTube folks: MandaloreGaming NeverKnowsBest Razbuten Kilian Etc.

Jazz Jackrabbit

Probably a pipe dream but Jeff Kaplan would be amazing.

Ian Zamojc

Jeff Gerstmann (journalist), Northernlion (canadian streamer), ProZD (specifically for his voice acting in games), Mick Gordon (to hear about the Doom Eternal soundtrack debacle and what he's working on now), James Lambert (about Portal 64), Kaze Emanuar (about decompiling Mario 64), MattKC (about being "the lego island" guy and his lego island decompile project).

Amir Rangnekar

Greg Miller. Rami Ismail. Chandana Ekanayake. Alexandra Neonakis. Those would be awesome off the top of my head.

Annie VanderMeer

Xalavier Nelson Jr. is heckin brilliant - it was a blast chatting with him for FrieNDA (my youtube show) and I would really just be cool with hearing him talk even more. The dude is only 26 and is pretty much the definition of a wunderkind. CRAAAAAZY talented! And also? This might make some dudes roll their eyes but so what, I'd like to hear it - some notable female/NB/underrepresented devs. So many cool folks out there who don't get their due and who are making amazing things. I'd suggest some but honestly I want to hear from MORE that I don't even know about yet!

Michael Webb

I’d also like to hear from Eric Barone.

Mark Rojas

Nadia oxford, kat bailey. Sorry for so many lol

Korme

Localthunk from balatro

Michael Webb

I bet Jason Schreier would have some interesting insights to the industry that he may not have shared in his books.

Something else

Daniel Mullins, Sam Lake, one of the people who have been at Bungie for awhile maybe? Owen from Infinite Review and Mandalore would be cool . Anyone from the Giant Bomb family. Austin or Drew?

/noclip

We should mention as it's coming a bunch, we're interviewing Xalavier Nelson Jr. at GDC for a Noclip video about all his games

Jack Mayo

Any of the Play watch listen crew, especially alanah with her experiences working with noclip. Johnny chiodini - just a catch up with what they've been up too. Any of the outside xbox, especially their work pre outside oxbox. Any of the Digixart team as picked up road 96 per your recommendation which was amazing! Plus their experience working with aardman animation on the beautiful 11-11 memories retold.

Zack McCoy

Pawel Sakai w/ CDPR would be fun. Some discussion around the reworking of CP2077 and maybe something about the process of building up a new team and relocating to the US to get started on the new game.

Cushion Sapp

Would love to hear from people who are tasked with translating games from foreign countries.

Tony Rodriguez

Amy Hennig - I know your schedules didn't line up previously but maybe better now?

Chris Hardin

Chicago bias here but Josh Tsui would be awesome!

Thomas Keys

Terri Vellmann would be awesome. Super underrated indie dev

Kadaju

Given the name of the show, Swery, though it fit even better when it said Dear Dwery

Andrew Jones

A bit niche, but Éric Chahi - solo dev of Another World (Out of This World in North America), I'm bloody fascinated by that game.

Eoin

Obligatory "Swery on Dwery" post

Adam C.

Becky Heineman

Will Bryceson

You mentioned Mike Bithell on the last crew cast, I love listening to him on pwl. I really liked Daniel Mullins as a suggestion too - and Lucas Pope!

Patrick McCarron

+1 I just was about to post the same. Just texted Josh to let him know I was recommending him. Would love to hear him and Danny talk shop about their approaches to making gaming documentaries.

Wishbone

Mentioned this on one of the previous posts, but Sean Plott (Day[9]). Couple of different angles you could take, given the variety of ways he interacts with the video game ecosystem.

Jason Shamblin

Lorne Lanning - I'm not even a huge Oddworld fan, but every time this guy talks about making games, it's forthright and fascinating. Would love to hear his take on how games get funded (then vs now). Rami Ismail - Huge fan of his work as an indie developer, but also as a barometer for the industry as a whole. I'd love to hear his thoughts on how games get funded, and how current AAA woes/layoffs can't just be solved by "just going indie". Johan Pilestedt - Obviously the CEO of Arrowhead has his hands full with the incredible success of Helldivers 2, but I'd love his thoughts on how to do a live service and microtransactions the right way, and (if he can be candid) why so many of his peers get it so wrong. Does he believe the funding/pricing model of HD2 would work if he were pitching it in 2024? You've probably noticed a trend. Where's the money coming from Lebowski?!

N.R. Jenzen-Jones

Personally, I am not particularly interested in streamers or most YouTubers. I would love to hear from people who have recent experience in shifting from indie development to big studios, or vice versa. I would also be interested to hear from a couple of publishers as to their decision making processes, etc. And of course something on how weapons are selected, modelled, and sound recorded for shooters ;)

dmaurath

Solo dev Madison Karrh (Birth) or major figures behind Godot Engine. Is there maybe someone who works in 3D movies and games? That could be interesting to learn about.

Sébastien Delfino

Meg Jayanth & Leigh Alexander, Rami Ismail, Noah Gervais, Jenova Chen, Baudelaire Welch, your former colleague Kevin VanOrd... Also, if you ever learn what happened to the Oakland VG museum, I'm still curious.

Brandon K Gann

Hey Danny! (Super sorry for how long this got) A lot of great suggestions by everyone here, so to avoid repeats of those already mentioned, I guess I'll say: Checking back in with Hugo Martin Catching up with Kinda Funny, What's Good Games, or talking with anyone from Easy Allies and/or MinnMax about common experiences of having Patreon fund the various content types about gaming yourself and they respectively make. (Super pie-in-the-sky pick) Current and/or former heads of the major gaming companies (Phil Spencer, Reggie Fils-Aime, etc.) about their thoughts on game preservation and what they like to see in the games documentary space. Kahlief Adams/Spawn On Me collab! IGN/Gamespot personalities (Ryan McCaffery, Brian Altano, Max Scoville, Tamoor Hussain, Lucy James) on their thoughts of current games press. Austin Wintory, Gareth Coker, and/or other composers on their processes of creating music Any voice actor that wants to be down to discuss their past projects (Doesn't have to be a massive name like Troy Baker, Laura Bailey, Nolan North, Jennifer Hale, etc., but it would be awesome if you could chat with them too!). Maximilian Dood on how fighting games and the FGC at large could use more exposure and docs like the one Esteban did for NoClip several years ago. Anyone from AIAS on how they coordinate things like DICE, the Game Maker's Notebook, and so on. Anyone from the ESA who would go record on the ESA's perspective of the death of E3. Anytime you can chat with Tim Schafer is a plus. And by extension, he and Greg Rice on Day of the Devs going Non-Profit. I wish I could add more (especially specific developers), but I think this is too long as it is (sorry again!).

Hugh O'Brien

Sandy Petersen's journey from Doom to Age of Empires has always fascinated me. Bing Gordon could maybe talk about Alpha Centsuri

Ross

Literally these were my top choices, cheers Will

Ross

Just to add on: People in addition to Tim Schafer from Double Fine. Like Anna, Greg Rice, Peter chan, a check in with the 2PP crew

Ross

Thinking of solo devs, any catchup with Toby Fox would be amazing

Ross

CAMERON LAD

Ross

Like actually it would be hilarious to end an episode with a 3 minute “sooooo how do you feel about our little meme?” Bit

Joosh

Chris Wilson or any of the Grinding Gear Games team.

Josh LaBaw

I really want to hear some good details of composing music for the 8 & 16 bit Cartridge Era. Like the instruments—or lack there of—the creativity that comes from the restrictions, all of that.

Anthony Mcintosh

Would love to hear Danny and Mike nerd out about Amiga games

Erik

Adam Robinson-Yu: The creator of A Short Hike or Éric Chahi: The creator of Another World and Heart of Darkness. Inkle or Don’t Nod would also be cool from a studio perspective.

Erik

I had the same suggestion. Also he continues to make unique games to this day. Not my favorite games, but I always come away impressed at how he keeps reinventing himself in different genres.

Daniil Shevtsov

People who worked on Inkle Studio's games like Meg Jayanth or Jon Ingold. They are always extremely insightful in their talks and interviews about many diverse topics - art, games, game industry, etc. To hear about Wildermyth developers would be lovely, extremely unique and well-done game, that at the same time is too big to be called a hidden gem, but too niche for anyone to know about it.

Keegan Zykowski

+1 on the Lorne Lanning comment - love hearing that guy talk about that universe. I'm also curious on someone from Yakuza's localisation/writing team talking about how they much they actually contribute alongside the rest of RGG to bring the fun to Western audiences.

Tomek Dersu Aaron

William Pugh, the Stanley Parable Daniel Mullins, Inscryption Andrew Shouldice, Tunic Mark Essen, Nidhogg The founders of Rusty Lake Games Lucas Pope, Papers Please, Obra Dinn Sean Murray, No Mans Sky Bennett Foddy, QWOP etc

Seán Foley

The Two Guys From Andromeda, Mark Crowe and / or Scott Murphy. There would probably be some great dev stories from the Sierra On-Line days and then more recently with the Space Venture development and release!

Daniel Alderman

Would love to see an episode on the old Star Wars Battlefront games

Simon Johnson

Sean Murray, HelloGames If you could presuade him to get on the record and talk about being pushed front and center of the Sony lineup, the flood / data-loss, the launch and then the resurgance and becoming a multi-game studio, I feel there is a good story there

Leif Dion

Please daniel mullins

Luke

Rich Whitehouse - creator of the Atari Jaguar emulator on Atari 50. He has continued development, including a script that makes Alien vs Predator a multiplayer game. Lots of really cool stuff!

T Dubby Dubz

I'd love to hear an interview with Chris Sawyer (tycoon games).

Alexandre Moreira

I'd love for you to get a hold of the Team Cherry folks!

Nicolás Agüero

Hi Dani Could it be possible to add mod creators to the list? I would like to listen to the 'Heart of Evil' Half Life mod. But I'm sure there are many others to interview, from other games also. I would like to listen to the creators of Grim Fandango, Subnautica, The Last of Us, Wasteland (original and remake), Knights and Merchants, Civilization or Gran Turismo. Subnautica being my preferred one. Keep up the great work!

Siggboy

Sam Lake would be awesome 😍

2026-09-14 12:00 This is a wild one but Mod Ash from Jagex. Jagex makes Old School Runescape and he's beloved by the community. From what I understand, he's been there 10+ years so getting the perspective of someone who's seen the change of the game from free to play children's browser game, into a reboot of the old version, into the new age of third party clients and min-maxing adults would be awesome.

Björn Vahle

Bret Robbins on what went wrong with Immortals of Aveum. Not a game that I care much about, but he seems to be on a quest himself of finding out about why the game failed and what can be learned from that. Seems to be a story there worth exploring. He was at DICE, so maybe I'm preaching to the O'Dwyer choir here 😜

T Dubby Dubz

I actually went to the same church as mod Ash (God Ash) growing up. Danny could have some great Catholic banter with him I'm sure.

Darri Skúlason

Second this, great idea. He often seems so stressed or a bit overwhelmed maybe when presenting his games, understandably because he's often promising the world(s) to players and doesn't want to be misunderstood. Would love to see him in a more relaxed setting, where he doesn't have to hype up any future endeavours but rather sits back and reflects on how he got here. Stories from Criterion days would be interesting as well...If anyone could get him to loosen up, my bet's on Danny!

c0mmanderKeen

Yes, that would be fantastic! Such a rich history and contemporary context to boot! Sam Lake!

Tyler Boyce

I've recommended these names on a previous post, so I'll repost them here: Anne Toole (writer, "Horizon Zero Dawn"), Idris Grey MacChruiteir (quest designer, "Horizon Forbidden West"), Dennis Micka (level designer, "Horizon Forbidden West"), Austin Wintory (composer, "Stray Gods"), Evan Skolnick (narrative designer), Ashley Ruhl (creative director, "Star Wars: The Old Republic"), Alyssia Castillo (writer, "Chapters"), Eric Stirpe (lead writer, Remedy Entertainment), Webb Pickersgill (motion capture director, Deck Nine), Pawel Mielniczuk (art director, CD Project Red), Greg Kasavin (writer/designer, Supergiant Games), Rhianna Prachett (lead writer, Crystal Dynamics), etc.

TCBD

More Tim Schafer of course. Also Sam Lake. Chris Avellone since IIRC he's no longer cancelled.

The Great Unknown

A lot of folks have mentioned many of the behind-the-scenes folks behind a lot of games already, so I think I'll suggest folks from a different perspective. What about YouTubers whose whole thing is on how to develop your own games (CodeMonkey, Jason Weimann), or talk about games (Outside XBox & Outside Xtra, GameRanx, WhatCulture Gaming), or just play games for others to enjoy watching (Markiplier, EthosLab, Neebs Gaming). All of these folks would bring their own perspectives to the much larger gaming world.

Galen Ryder

Few Vancouver devs Justin Smith (Desert Golf) Sarah Northway (I was a Teenage Exocolonist, Fantastic Contraption) Greg Lobanov (Chicory, Wandersong) Chris Bourassa (Darkest Dungeon) Tom Francais (Gunpoint)

/noclip

Oh my god yes gonna reach out to a bunch of those. Justin Smith is inspired!
