Vr is what makes this ground breaking

I have a severely newbie question, and maybe this isn't the best place to answer. What are the recommended PC specs for VR? What is some good gear to get? And I haven't build a PC in a long time but I've been saving for a new rig. Any suggestions?

Alex

You will want to aim for a minimum fps as close to 90 as you can get, that will help avoid one source of nausea. That's not a peak of 90, or even an average, but a minimum. The difference in resolutions between headsets is a lot like the difference between 1080p and 4K on a monitor. The difference can be vast and the work the graphics card has to do scales up faster than the pixles do. So you need to find a balance of features on a headset and a PC that can run it all smoothly. It's not an impossible task, VR has been around for a while now and some googling will show people enjoying it on the 1000 series nvidia cards and even older! That said as the resolution of the headset ramps up so does the demand. I have a Reverb G2 and a RTX3090 and I have to drop the resolution in most games before it can hit a stable 90fps. Start with the headset, what features do you want? Then look for benchmarks with that headset and pay attention to the cards being used in the benchmarks. Then start comparing those cards to your other options in benchmarks. For a modern headset 4K is probably a better resolution to compare on that 1080p or 2K. The 3 main options at the moment are the Vale Index for wide FoV and amazing controllers, the Reverb G2 for the sharp image and the Quest 2 for being cable free. There are others on the horizon and they all have their cons too. Others too that might not be as good as the top 3 but hey, they might have just the right mix of features for you so keep an open mind.

This is amazing I really appreciate your thoughtful response on the subject!

On launch day I didn't even see a buy button, then the news hit of all the bots buying the cards so I figured humans were out of luck and got a stock alerter. Doesn't buy a card, just pings when the stock changes. Got one a week or 2 later when some new stock went online one evening. When the stock alert goes off just hammer the website until you see the buy button or everything calms down again. Also do a Ctrl+F5 to force a refresh without the cache. There is no way you're likely to get one by checking several times a day. You need a bot to be checking every few minutes. That said it sounds like you're in the US, so the timings might be even tighter over there. Isn't there a company doing a lottery style system? Free to enter and if you get a draw then you'll win a timeslot to buy a card in. Something like that, some youtubers have covered it but I didn't pay that much attention as it didn't apply to my country. I can't remember if it was a big retailer or one of the 3rd party manufacturers. Either way big name, not the adverts you might have seen selling tickets to lotteries for cards. I think you're going down the right path as long as you're sticking to safe lottery systems. Also if you want RRP then it's founders edition only for now (but hey, I wanted the FE more anyway). Fingers crossed for you!

one more tip! get stock alerts for more than just the card you want. i've found cards tend to go in stock together, but one card has to be first to be processed, so if you get a ping from the first card you'll be sat there pressing ctrl+F5 when the one you actually want goes up and yeah, it's crazy right now! at least it sounds like things are moving back to normal

My response to your survey: none of the above. I do not play at all, but rather enjoy non-interactive VR videos. I think most oy your scenes do not really require interaction, for example if you are tied to a chair and have to endure what happens to you anyway. BTW: Is there any chance you might release more VR videos any time soon?
