Thursday made. Can’t wait to see your take on this episode

Maria

That’s okay we all have the show itself committed to memory 🙃

gothamnightlights

Thank you so much for being here :) Much love to you! 🙏🏻💙

Bob Rogers

i'm not a killer either

A

Typing this 1 min in. I clicked the notification the moment I saw you posted this, and did not mind at all needing to pay to acces it 🫶 no matter what the video quality issue ends up looking like, I'm confident that it will not at all make me regret it. Your reactions have been great so far and the show itself I have it memorized lol

gothamnightlights

Thank you so much for this 🙏🏻 I’m so extremely grateful for you being here💙💙💙💙

Rain ༊*·⟭⟬⁷

I genuinely can not wait for you reaction to episode 4 and 5

Jaxx Cordd

no worries, you take of your finances as you need, we're all here for you

Becca Pelzl

So excited when I saw this notification pop up! Glad to pay for this reaction!

gothamnightlights

Thank you so much! Your support means the world to me! 🙏🏻💙

Chigirl22

Another great reaction--well worth the small subscription fee! Can't wait for the next 3 episodes! Selfishly I want you to binge them, but I know what you mean about watching them the way the rest of us did every week. Enjoy them!!

Kurt Lindquist

Great reaction to this beautiful and emotional episode! I had a feeling you were going to swoon for Kip (and his dad) like everyone else. And I agree that Elena is the best. We all deserve a friend like that. And I am more than happy to pay a fee to watch with you knowing it is helping you reach your goals in moving forward in your journey! Peace and love, my friend.

MavenCree

This series is all about subverting expectations, both in character and in plot.

Zaren Montoff

Girl! LOL, I love Elena too. She is such an ally. I also really appreciate your honesty about certain things. I am gay and also find it hard to make gay friends. I know when I was your age, most of my gay friends were from going out to clubs in Austin, especially the gay country bars. That was so much fun, learning to 2-step and line dance with other people. Yes, there was the sexual tension, so I undertsnad that as well, but sometimes you just have to get over that and enjoy the people you're with. I know that atmosphere may be tougher to deal with since you have mentioned your addiction, but I hope you do find a way to connect with the community. Best wishes!

JoeTheLion

Another great reaction! And no issue with paying for access to the reaction. Am I the only one who thinks the actor who plays Kip could be considered a contenter for the new James Bond?

Mitch Nawojczyk

Good reaction. I joined your Patreon with no reservation. I can't wait for you to see the rest. One thing, if you want to look cute like you said, get that Longhorns shit off. haha Do you live in Austin? I'm in Houston.

Carly Shue

thank you for clarifying I thought you were gonna drop a criminal minds story line for a second lol 😂

Meryl Lim

Yes, the socks are definitely a metaphor. So is the tux in the closet. Really enjoying your reactions to Heated Rivalry!

Timothy Alberts

I love watching HR with you, even tho I have seen this show a hundred times! For the record, I would be your gay friend in an instant, even though I am old enough to be your great-grand uncle. 😉 Did you notice Kip was wearing Scott's red hoodie in the closet scene? Also, the lighting got darker as their story progressed, and Kip is pulled back into the closet. P.S. In the book, I believe Kyle is secretly in love with Kip 😢, and Jacob said Kyle's character will have a part in Season 2 🙌

Carly Shue

I can't believe im watching someone with a longhorns shirt watching this show and loving it lol its healing something in me and im dying for the next episode

Bradley Weeks

Happy to join your patreon for your Heated Rivalry reaction. I'm obsessed with this show. Looking forward to watching you take this journey.

jo

your reacts and content you put out does not need to be perfect or without flaws, in order for you to deserve support. We’re happy to support, you’re worth it, and you’re likely going to have some bumps in figuring out the tech stuff, as all reactors had to. No big deal.

jo

dude - the way you look at the camera, with this knowing look, it makes me laugh, it’s really like we’re in the room giving each other a look. / And P.S., everyone needs gay friends, or let’s say queer (lgbtq+) friends - who you aren’t attracted to.

jo

If you think Francois looks good in this show, you really need to look at some of the photo shoots he’s done in the last several months. I think some of them are on his IG: https://www.instagram.com/francoisarnaud/

Ivan Velez

ROFLMAO! Yes Scott Hunter (Francois Arnaud) IS smoldering 24/7

Carly Shue

Random thought on your father/son in media comment- have you ever seen the movie "Life As A House"?

Tami

Another great reaction! And you're right, the show gets more emotional with every episode. Thanks again for your insights, I really appreciate your honesty and reflection.

Vicki Lewis

This was such a beautiful reaction! Those boys are literally jacked! Kip omg he’s so hot! I am glad you picked up on the vers sex thing as nobody else has who I follow! However we know that Shane is Ilya’s little cute bitch and he’s there for it xxx

Dennis A

You'll soon discover that this little side trip, to find out about these wonderful guys, is very, very important to the story. Several more brutal hits still to endure before the end. Thank you! 🙏

Dennis A

I'm sorry, that sounds very ominous. Jacob has been very insistent that this is ultimately a show about queer joy, and it is. So don't worry.

WILLIAM jewelry

I think kip is the easy answer to WOLVERINE. He seems like he could be a young Hugh Jackman.

WILLIAM jewelry

There is a new app out there which allows gay men to randomly meet 3 other gay men for dinner. They do it once a week. You pay for you meal. It is usually new people each time. Gives you more chances to meet new people without feeling like it is for fucking. The app is called OUTCLOSE.

jo

I was gonna say, wow, that’s a lot … I would say there’s one more episode of some moments of less joyful experiences to witness folks having, but the last two eps are definitely more positive and joyful than heavy or sad.

Ivan Velez

I get you always seem to be waiting for the other shoe to drop but as another gay man I understand because society has conditioned us to feel like we’re less and we don’t deserve happiness. This is specially true for people my age (70 y/o boomer) the great thing about this show is that it breaks those stereotypes. Keep the faith, this show is literally beautiful, the author and director wanted it to be a celebration. Just keep watching 🙂

Michael Girouard

Fortunately, this is my least favorite episode. I don't hate it, but the characters are not that compelling and the situation itself is not that realistic. It's necessary, though, to get through this one.

Adavan

This is my least favourite episode of the season (which means almost nothing because I love them all so much and I do still love Scott and Kip!) but I do miss our boys, and I usually skip this episode on rewatch, although not every time. It is a lovely episode and it is really interesting to see the contrast between the two couples. Scott and Kip: - approximately five or six years older than Shane and Ilya - one of them out, both of them secure in their sexuality within themselves - both living in the same city. Ilya and Shane: - so young still, (even in 2014, they're only like 22) - neither of them even close to being out - not living in the same COUNTRY and only seeing each other half a dozen times throughout the year (if they're lucky). The contrasts are important and I appreciate the way they're shown through this episode. I enjoyed your reaction as always, and again, I appreciate your candidness at the end of the video. I'm loving your journey through the show and I can't wait for the next three episodes!! 😊

WILLIAM jewelry

I was so looking forward to your reaction. I've been checking each day to see when you would post. You are such a sweet man, I want to hug you like the father figure I am (57 years old). I never had kids but I get attached to young gay men because I see myself in them and I want to help. I was fortunate to have lived a fun, crazy, over-the-top life and have so much to give in way of advice. Episode 4 might be a little tough but 5 and 6 will give you hope for humanity. For 5 bring tissues (happy tears). It is one of the best shows I've seen. I know literally every word of dialogue due to watching so many reactions. My poor husband has had enough of me watching it (so it helps to be on patreon and not on my TV) and saying each line before it happens. But, after 26 years together, you make allowances. I watch Leprechaun, Star Wars (all of them), and White Chicks hundreds of times with him (his choice)... it is only fair to suffer through my HEATED RIVALRY addiction.

sam

you were so happy to see shane ❤️ my fav part of the ep

gothamnightlights

From the bottom of my heart, thank you so much. Your support means everything to me. Much love 💙

gothamnightlights

Thank you for this 🙏🏻 I’m actively working on getting more comfortable with being out in places where most people in my age go, I’m trying my hardest to not let my addiction control my life but I also don’t want to slip! There’s so many good people out there that I can’t wait to meet and one day I’ll take that step to do it :) Thank you for such a lovely comment, sending you much love! 🙏🏻💙

gothamnightlights

Thank you so much for your support! And that’s a great point, I can seen Bond AND Wolverine. We can only dream 🙏🏻😫

Christopher Duenas

I paid the $3 just so I don't miss the tears that are to come lol

gothamnightlights

Thank you for your support :) 🙏🏻 And I used to live in Austin but I live in Dallas now! Not much of an upgrade but things are definitely more chill in this area which I appreciate

gothamnightlights

I would love to be your friend!! And thank you for pointing all of these small details out, it definitely adds to the depth of this show! Much love 💙💙💙💙

gothamnightlights

Thank you so much for joining me on this journey :) Much love to you always 🙏🏻💙

gothamnightlights

I greatly appreciate this :) I was nervous all day leading up to posting this so just know this comment means a lot to me :) Much love 💙

gothamnightlights

Thank you for your kind words and for being here :) Much love to you 🙏🏻💙

gothamnightlights

Thank you 🙏🏻 Much love always to you Vicki!!!!! 💙💙💙💙

gothamnightlights

Thank you so much for sharing this beautiful comment 🙏🏻 Hope can be found in anything as long as someone can be persistent in searching for it :) Again, thank you and much love to you 🙏🏻💙

gothamnightlights

It’s always so good to see you here! Thank you so much for your continued support, your love and kind words have kept me going :) Since this was my first watch I will say I quite enjoyed this episode! I think they’re covering a full spectrum of things with this show so I appreciate bringing in a few new faces for some more depth. Plus, I recognize this is also based on a book so there’s some rich context to pull from that alone. Again, thank you and always much love to you 💙

gothamnightlights

This comment had me feeling all the feels! Thank you so much for your continued support, it truly means the world to me. The part of this comment pertaining to you and your husband really touched my heart. Everyone deserves a true and persistent love like that in their lives. It’s the little things like repeated viewings of movies and shows that add so much to two people choosing to spend their life together. Again, thank you so much 🙏🏻💙

Dennis A

I guess I was just meaning very emotional. He talked about how emotional it is. I'm probably just a big baby but I cried several times in both 5 and 6.

Adavan

Thanks so much! I'm so glad you know how much I'm enjoying your reactions and how happy I am to support the channel. ❤️ Yes, there are some people who truly don't like this episode, but that's definitely not me. I'm glad you enjoyed it too! 😊

Joshua Rodman

Media in particular has gotten used to queer trauma. And i think there is a place for that when it shows us truths. But it can't be most queer media if it strives for truth and all the kinds of stories. I certainly appreciate that the romance genre has showed up to offer us queer joy.

WILLIAM jewelry

I believe the actor Arnaud identifys as bisexual. He is 41 yrs old if I remember correctly and plays I think slightly less or about the same age (old for hockey). He is portraying a GOAT type of character which is to contrast with the "young rival bucks".

Joshua Rodman

I think the way you have gay friends is you hang out with enough at once that you have to interact mostly as peers. I've done it as peers from irc socializing circles, then later a gay cycling club, etc. Some people will be looking, but after interacting with a group once or twice you can relax and figure out who among them you actually click with enough to form friendships.

WILLIAM jewelry

I dm'd Hudson (the actor who plays Shane) and suggested he could do a matrix reboot and be the new young Keanu.

Joshua Rodman

Oh and, i don't think you were the asshole for guessing Scott Hunter might not be all the way in. We kinda get Kip Grady's point of view, and Kip is absolutely thinking he's just a lucky hookup to start with.

Joshua Rodman

This episode really gets me in the feels and i don't even know why. Coming out was not a big struggle for me. It made my teenage years a bit scary for a little while, but i didnt live with the secrecy, anxiety, and fear for very long. Somehow though, François' depiction of an obviously drowning man hurts me. He's lived with the pain so long he doesn't even fully understand how much he's hurting Kip, at least not until it is explained to him. Everyone notes how this bottle episode illustrates there's an entire additional layer of problems awaiting Ilya and Shane even if they can overcome their struggle to communicate and connect. But I see a different parallel in that Scott and Ilya have both very much learned to live with less; to not reach for what they actually want because they don't think it is possible.

Mark Edwards

Very enjoyable. Love watching your reactions. I didn’t see anything funky with the HR video. Then again, I was watching on my iPad out on the patio during golden hour so maybe the sunlight overwhelmed the screen. And regarding the final scene, I took it as he’s wearing the smoothie socks under the uniform so he can maintain the official appearance but keep Kip with him. Pretty sure Olympic athletes are required to wear the team kit during the games since the sponsors have dropped $$$ for the visibility.

gothamnightlights

Thank you so much for your support 😫🙏🏻 Much love! 💙

gothamnightlights

Thank you for this :) I’m hyping myself up to put myself out there again and I’ll definitely be keeping this in mind when I take that step! Much love to you always, I’m so happy to see you here :) 💙💙💙💙

gothamnightlights

Wow sunset on the patio sounds like an absolute VIBE!! I’m so grateful for you continuing on this journey with me, much love to you always 💙💙💙💙

Arctic Goddess

Insightful as always Dylan. Many love this show so I hope you realize that there will be some drop off in subs after you finish. I don't want you to think it's you, because you are an amazing person and reactor. I have gotten way too many patreon subscriptions to stay on after, but I will be back for specific shows. You are going to be very successful! 🩷

Arctic Goddess

And subtext. I hope Jacob Tierney has educated Hollywood so we get get more romantic drama. It's so rare that anyone guesses the plot that I am instantly suspicious that the reactors are going in blind (I've caught more than a few out mentioning things that are too specific to guess, and it's so dishonest. I'm more likely to subscribe to someone who guesses everything wrong honestly, than to be 'wowed' by guessing right by watching first. Dylan is a genuine reactor, so he'll go far I think.

gothamnightlights

Thank you for your support, I’m so grateful you’ve taken the time to not only watch my videos but to support them :) I look forward to seeing you in the next three episodes and the next show/movie you are passionate about :) Again, thank you so so much. 🙏🏻💙

Arctic Goddess

Yes, protect that sobriety above all. I missed dancing, and went clubbing at a year sober and almost relapsed on Molly, which would have taken me right back down the road to hell with opiates. It takes a few years to not feel like dude in A Clockwork Orange with his eyes forced open. I was so used to numbing out that I was extremely uncomfortable and restless in social situations. Then it went away thank God. 20 years later and I'm so grateful I made it out, and don't even think about using and haven't for many years. I knew so many ppl who didn't. ❤️‍🩹

Catherine Strachan

I appreciated seeing Kip's relationship with his Dad. We never heard any mention of his mother and I related so much to that. My Mum left when I was little so it was just my Dad and me and I saw similarities. You need a parent that you can talk to about the heavy stuff and although my Mum kept in touch, she stayed too far away to be that someone for me. My Dad was the one to hug me when I was upset or heartbroken. He's not with us anymore and I miss his presence so much 😔❤️

Joshua Rodman

There's a movie with that title. *wink* (it's not very good but it's amusing camp). Unrelatedly, one of my gay mentors got his debauchery years out of the way at University of Texas at Austin. To hear him tell it, there were certainly a lot of them.

Mark100

8:16 What I'm aching could say at this point would be a massive spoiler so I'm just gonna say, after you finish, take a moment to return to this timestamp.

Mark100

33:25 This is just one example of how virtually every rom-com trope that comes up in this show DOESN'T end up the way you fear it will.

HifiJunkie

Can also relate to the gay friends issue. It seems like people aren't interested unless they want to sleep with you. Exceptions exist of course, but the fact that it's such a rampant issue regardless of where folks live is pretty damning. Anyway. I've seen HR about 54334325365 times, along with a billion reaction videos, and it never gets old. Such a brilliant series. As an older millennial, it's also incredibly bittersweet. I can't even fathom ever seeing something like this when I was in high school or college. Will and Grace was controversial enough at the time!

HifiJunkie

Anyway, look forward to seeing the rest of the series!

3r7s

i thoroughly loved this! ❤️ even more so, that i came here directly from watching what must be the worst, most annoying and stupidest HR reacts i ever came across. offered by the YT algorithm, i couldn't even finish it.. it was so atrocious.. 😅 i probably wouldn't have noticed the minimal video flicker, had you not mentioned it. looking forward to the second half of the show! i'm enjoying our parasocial relationship.. 😅❤️

Jill

This was so fun watching with you! You are so real and I appreciate your honest POV!

Jill

You’re gonna love it!

gothamnightlights

Catherine, it always makes my day when I get to see and read one of your beautiful comments! I hope you’ve been doing well :) A dad’s love is unprecedented, and I’m happy you had such a strong father figure in your life :) Much love to you always 💙

gothamnightlights

A show like this will definitely stand the test of time! Thank you so much for your support and for being here :) Much love 💙

gothamnightlights

I greatly appreciate your support! I hope you are doing well, I’m sending much love! 🙏🏻💙

gothamnightlights

Thank you for this!! I greatly appreciate you being here :) Much love! 🙏🏻💙

Harmon Neatfeld

I love your reaction videos. I cannot wait to watch your reactions to the rest of them! Like there are several scenes coming up in the next 3 episodes that I’m dying to see your reactions. Like, the moment I get the notification that episode 5 dropped I will stop what I’m doing and go watch it immediately.

Maria

Yes, Scott and Kip are canonically vers, and actually in the book when they first hook up, the thing Scott wants to do most that night is bottom. And Kip is like welp, that’ll teach me to make assumptions about masculine hockey players

John In Rhode Island

Loved the watch - definitely fun to join in and watch with you. Thanks

Maria

I think hockey socks serve a protective purpose too. So there’s definitely a practical side but yes, it’s also a metaphor 🙂

Maria

In the book, Kyle has a crush on Kip and it’s sort of mutual but Kip really just has eyes for Scott. And then a later book, Common Goal (book 4) is about Kyle and his relationship with one of Scott’s teammates 👀

SirMatelot

Happy to join your Patreon family! You are my third Patreon creator, after AZB+ (Alastair & Zach in Texas) and Stepsof2Foreigners (Adam & Bernardo in Brazil). Interestingly enough, both couples have recently talked about making new friends, besides each other, after moving to Dallas and Brazil. Great reactions to the first 3 episodes of Heated Rivalry! Ep3 is affectionately known as the Skipisode. Looking forward to 4 through 6. And season 2 of course! Love from Seattle, SirMatelot (mat-a-lo)

Michael E

The socks being covered over, I imagine, to conform to regulated uniforms on the ice.,

@baydreamer

Same. He's not ready for the next few episodes.

@baydreamer

It's not just you. I think the whole fandom gets very emotional from here on out, especially ep 5.

@baydreamer

I found photos of a younger Francois. Now those were hot! Next TV viewing will be some of his older movies he was in. But Connor will always be my favorite.

@baydreamer

Suggestion for a new watch when HR is over. Young Royals, if you haven't seen it. Tamer than HR but a very good series with inspiring young actors like Connor and Hudson. Jacob had HudCon watch YR to understand yearning, in preparation for HR. That series also has a great score. It's on Netflix. The leads are in the lower left corner of my profile pic. 😉

Dennis A

You should check out François as the lead in the 2017 TV series "Midnight, Texas." Also the Showtime series "The Borgias." He's 🔥🥵

Epiphora

I'll be your gay friend 🌈

gothamnightlights

Wow thank you so much for you being here and for your support!!!! I look forward to seeing you again! 🙏🏻💙

gothamnightlights

Thank you so much for being here :) Much love to you 🙏🏻💙

gothamnightlights

Thank you so, so much for your support :) I am so excited to dive into the rest of the series!!!! Again, from the bottom of my heart thank you and much love always 🙏🏻💙

gothamnightlights

I will definite check this out after Heated Rivalry! Thank you greatly for the suggestion and for the support :) Much, much love to you 💙💙💙💙

3r7s

the recording of your livestream popped up on YT and i was listening to it as i was doing chores.. guess it's hard to completely avoid any spoilers now, but regarding your anticipations of ep4.. i think people should just shut up and stop setting your expectations before each episode. there's nothing horribly tragical going on there, other than some fine and interesting character development. so you'll be fine, i'd say.. :)) also it's interesting how you're interpreting Scott's actions as predominantly selfish. not sure you're taking into account all the circumstances of the situation.. 🤔

Ashley Phelps

Hopefully I can say this how I want to and get my point across right lol but With the Ilya and Shane thing, Scott played Ilya and Ilya was chirping him (canonically Ilya does this constantly it's great lol) and then the NEXT night he plays Shane and Shane who is NOT known for doing that chirps at Scott and Scott says "you're starting to sound like him" Shane freaks out because of his internalized homophobia he is thinking too much into it thinking that Scott is catching on that him and Ilya have things going on even if in Scott's POV I think it's more of a "man he's sounding just like the damn guy who he's constantly around on the ice normally hollander is so nice" but Shane is just so worried about people finding out he freaks out and then they fight and also it's hilarious if you look at Shane's mouth he's yelling "GO HOME! YOURE LIKE 45!" Hudson (Shane) had a lot of fun with it haha I think he also said something like "go ice your back" or something lol LOVE your reactions though so excited for the rest of the series!

3r7s

😅😅

gothamnightlights

I really appreciate you listening in! In regards to Scott, I feel like I’ve made it pretty clear that I’m understanding but also concerned in regards to how he treats Kip. I’d love to hear more from you on this thought process though! Much love 🙏🏻💙

Chris

I'm a bit late. Sorry for not joining a couple days ago, but I just didn't have time to watch. You having 125 comments is a great thing since it means quite a few people are interested. I'm sure some of what I'm going to say has been said, but I'm going to type it out anyway. So there.

Chris

Oops. Didn't realize the enter button sent it. I second what someone said in that nothing horrible will happen. Not giving anything away since even Jacob has said that every time you think the worst will happen......it doesn't. Obviously some bad and emotional things do happen, but I've seen so many other things where truly horrible horrible things pop up. This is not that kind of show. You had your first tears right where I did too, and there will be more. However, if there are, most of them are actually happy or good ones. Ok, so, just some comments on stuff you noticed. Yes, the music and sound design for the show is perfect. It actually gets even better. Scott's eye contact is insane, not to mention the wink. They threw Shane and Ilya in there to show Scott was still having issues playing on the road. Also, it gave them another chance to show that it seems clear that Scott knows there's something going on between the two of them. It also shows how much Shane is not secure with himself. Gay on gay crime when Scott hit him with that line. I think we all breathed deep when Shawn calms Kip down. I still do it. Scott asking Kip to stay please is just one of many ways they show the difference between the two couples. This episode is definitely here for a reason. That Shhh really hit me hard too. I mean, I sort of get it, but damn. Finally, this show has something to hit everyone's emotions and to make them think, whether you are single or not. Oh, and the socks at the end were most definitely a symbol for him hiding Kip, but it was also because there is no way any team would allow those things to be visible. Guys are fined all the time for breaking any number of uniform codes. Well, now that my little book is finished, I shall stop. The show just keeps getting better so I can't wait to see what you think the rest of the way.

3r7s

use shift+enter to make paragraphs.. ;)

i'm just saying it's interesting seeing different people respond to this show, and see how they interpret things in different ways, get triggered or touched by completely different scenes, etc.. your reading of this episode is, of course, completely valid, too. here you go tldr; as i see it, Scott is an almost unrealistically decent guy. mind you, the episode is a whole novel (which i haven't read) condensed into an hour, so we only get snapshots of the story and i guess it takes away from the realism factor even more. let's consider what we learn from the story.. he gets orphaned at a young age, grows up in a severely homophobic environment, due to circumstance hockey becomes all his life and livelihood and takes precedens over most of his private life. plus he's captain of the team, and by his own words, many things and people depend on him, and as an overly responsible person, he doesn't take it lightly. he's not young by now (compared to the other characters; he's even aged up for the show i believe), and he's lived his life like this for quite some time, deep in the closet, emotionally starved; we can imagine his lovelife reduced to short flings or onenightstands preferably far away from home, on travels and vacations (he even says he never brings anybody home), hoping one day when he puts his career behind him, he gets a chance at a "normal" life. then fate intervenes and throws a wrench into the system.. he meets Kip and all's derailed. Scott's completely upfront about his circumstance as he tries to invite Kip into his life, and Kip accepts. of course, all this happens in the heat of the moment, and is not really thought through properly.. so they both just hope for the best. the scene in the art gallery is a bit exaggerated, because obviously you can go out with a friend to shop for paintings without looking like a couple.. but i guess what it wants to illustrate is Scott trying to get out of his comfort zone for Kip, but ending up in a low key panic attack - that's how under pressure his life is. and i guess Kip is getting it, and isn't pissed about it, or doesn't feel manipulated. etc., we know the rest. another devisive plot point is Elena at the fundraiser.. is she in the right to meddle into their relationship in such a way? i've seen people respond either way..

Michelle West

I was a bit worried when I saw your intro warning about the poor quality of the show, but wanted you to know that it really didn't take away from your video at all. Your reaction more than made up for it. Can't wait for you to see the rest of the show. Also, has anyone ever told you that you look like Ethan Hawke (when he was young and sexy in the 90s)?

“Gay on gay crime” had me cracking up!! I definitely appreciate that this episode added some “new” faces to the season and simultaneously added more depth! Much love 💙

gothamnightlights

Wow thank you so much for that peace of mind 🙏🏻 And yes actually a few days ago under one of my Ren videos someone told me I looked like Ethan in the 90’s! Genuinely the greatest compliment pertaining to my looks that I’ve ever gotten so thank you :) I’m very grateful that you’re here and I’m sending much love! 💙

That is an absolutely great point, Scott did make everything clear before asking Kip to join him and his life in that way. I totally didn’t even think of that. Also, I feel like Scott’s dedication and complete take over of his life by hockey definitely is magnified by what happened to his parents. I’m sure he was already passionate about hockey since both of his parents were big in it but after their passing I definitely feel like that added an extra weight and sense of responsibility to dedicated his all to it - and to be careful not to mess it up. As for Elena (love her) I think we all need an outside person’s perspective on big life things like that, especially from someone who you’ve been so close to for so long and who has loved you for so long, yknow? It can definitely be interpreted as meddling but I saw throughout the episode her initial absolute excitement for Kip morphing into genuine concern as she watched her friend slowly start to lose himself. In a perfect world we could all make the best decisions on our own and there is something to say in that nobody knows us better than ourselves, but if you’re lucky enough to have someone who’s been by your side for so long and loves you dearly I definitely think their concern should be noted! But she definitely was kinda doing a lot with speaking to Scott one on one like that 😫 I just feel like that’s part of her personality though. But that doesn’t make it right depending on how you see it!

Hey Dylan, great reaction again as always I didn’t notice any light pulsing so I think you’re good. Episode 3 was tough for me too. Brought up a lot of emotions from previous relationships that I thought were “the one” if it wasn’t for bad timing. But I’ve had my share of love and for that I’m grateful. Buckle up for episodes 4-6 cause we’re heading for the stratosphere of this masterpiece show!

Thank you for your honest and heartfelt reaction. I'm a 71yo gay man and I appreciate your insights as a young gay man. Thanks for the great video.

👍👍 this show is just amazing beyond words! there's so much soul in it. God knows how, but it somehow brought together a group of rarely gifted people (creators, cast and crew), who managed to produce exceptional cinema with minimal budget. once you finish the episodes and eventually give it a rewatch, you'll discover so much nuance that eludes the viewer at first. it's all surreal. even the novels! smutty m/m hockey romance? i mean, who would expect anything outstanding to come from that.. 😅 and yet it's such good writing. fleshed out characters, psychological depth, drama balanced with good humor. good points about Elena. i can't say if she's right to meddle or not, but she's acting out of concern and protectiveness, which is precious. so it's plus points in my book.. there's a theme going on here.. of strong, intelligent, caring women that have the characters' backs (only poor Scott is all his lonesome :( ), and it derives from the show's creator, who fleshed these characters out a bit more and gave them a bit more importance than in the novels. i listened to an interview with him and it seems to be inspired by his own life experience..

Aha you just resurfaced a memory—did you ever watch Batman Beyond?

gothamnightlights

I agree, there is so much nuance and depth in the first 3 episodes alone! I can’t wait for my rewatch + I’m definitely going to be checking out the novels after I finish the series! I love reading and I can’t wait to experience the “little things” left out in the show adaptation that I’m absolutely positive will add to the experience! I hope you’ve had a wonderful day so far!💙

Wow, thank you for this lovely comment and thank you so much for being here 🙏🏻 Much love to you always 💙

i should be asleep, but someone woke me.. and the first thing that YT showed me as i checked my phone was your stream, so i'm listening to that right now.. 😅 haven't read the novels relevant to the show, but i read a few others in the series.. one of them should be included in season 2.. but there are two standalones, and i enjoyed those very much. also, you should watch Bridgerton.. can't compare it to the novels which i never read, but as a light bingeworthy show - it's pretty entertaining..

gothamnightlights

Omg I was wondering if you were going to listen in to this stream as well, so thank you for being there!! I definitely want to watch the show but apparently it starts going out of order from the books like in the very beginning so I’m scared of spoilers 😫🙏🏻

I got to say that I've seen lots of reaction videos to this show, however, yours are very organic, relatable, and thoughtful. Can't wait for episode 4-6. Keep on the good work. Thanks.

From the bottom of my heart, thank you so, so much for this lovely comment 🙏🏻 Thank you for being here and much love to you always 💙💙💙💙

@baydreamer

We're not projecting anything tragic. Just emotional. And emotional doesn't have to mean sad/bad. Just lots of feels.

I loved this episode reaction. I love how chill you are and how you take everything in as is. <3

I've watched tons of reactors and I think this has been one of my faves for episode 3. You just seem so genuine and I like your vibe. Looking forward to more - I'm off to catch your ep 4 now! Happy to pay for this, keep up the nice work! :)

Hello! I’m just checking in here to let you know I’m a new “convert” from over on YouTube. I enjoyed your reactions to Eps 1 and 2 over there so much that I came over here! And: I understand how you feel about charging money for things, but as long as we’re all here trapped in this capitalist system that we’re in, I don’t think you should feel bad. You’re good at this, you’re putting your energy and time into this, and I’m happy to pay to share it with you 😊

G S

Oooh I haven’t read the book so I didn’t know this. That’s FUNNY and… well…. Also realistic 🤣

Appreciate your down to earth sincere reactions. Your honesty and vulnerability is very touching...looking forward to the remaining episodes.

Nick Pyle

Same!!! I love seeing all the reactors on those 2 specific episodes. So good!!!

Nick Pyle

I don't mind the subscription fee for good reactors. Enjoying your content so far. :)

Sandra

Love seeing your reaction to this episode. You are the first person I've saw that didn't immediately say it was hands down their favorite "so far" because Scott & Kip were less angsty and "toxic". (Which is totally unfair to our boys as their dynamics are so different.) Everyone has their challenges.

Sandra

Also meant to say I don't mind the subscription fee. 100% worth it!

Canonically, Kip's dad is a history teacher. It is one reason Kip is so interested in art history. Much of Kip's story is that he wants to go to grad school for art history.

Hi Dylan! I joined your Patreon just for the Heated Rivalry reactions after seeing your reactions to the first 2 episodes on YouTube. What I loved about this episode was the Scott and Kip story gave us the romantic side of a gay relationship that we hadn't seen in the Shane and Ilya story in the first 2 episodes. It was so nice and feel-good, I felt like I was almost vibing with Scott and Kip more. Episode 3 is one of my favourites and I'm glad we get to watch the series with you. As a fellow gay man, I appreciate your thoughts and insight and I 100% relate to wanting to have some gay friends. We need that for both of us. All the best from Canada!

Jason L

Finally got around to subscribing to your channel as I love your reactions to the previous episodes of Heated Rivalry! Your take the time to soak in the dialogue and your reactions are beautiful! I don't understand why many have referred to this as a "skipasode". The relationship between Kip and Scott is a welcome contrast to Shane and Ilya. Great to finally have an openly gay main character in Kip and an older one in Scott. What captured me most was their hearfelt emotions and the ability to communicate the issues they were confronting. The inital sexual attraction blossoms into something more substantive in a relatively short period of time, and Scott's "can I be too intense" speech to Kip was quite heartbreaking. I truly felt invested in their relationship! As many others have noted, Kip's dad is the best and his circle of friends are fantastic. Looking forward to the next three episodes. Much love and respect!
