Incredibly written!

Annie Stacie

I Love Lucy was my favorite show. Recently I heard a guy on YT remark about how it was a PSA/warning against lying and deception. That Lucy was always lying to Ricky and getting caught. And I haven't seen it in many years, but I don't remember that being the central point of the show. Sure, I can see that angle of it, but it seemed just as much about having fun as any kind of massive moral statement. When I re-watch it, maybe I'll see it differently. But I think I'll still agree with my kid self. It was a fun show, and Lucy just happened to... be Lucy. The show had to be about *something*, and maybe she did lie a lot and get into trouble. But was the point of the show really to warn us against that kind of behavior? If we weren't supposed to be like Lucy, then why make her so lovable?

This one rocks ! W.C. Fields created comedy as though he really didn't have any more F's to give about what people thought of him. Like Lucille Ball, his expressions alone often made people laugh. Best yet.

He was a man. A serious man. Or so they thought...

I have a couple of edits. Replace “WC Fields” with “Bob Dylan” and replace “Lucille Ball” with “one of your many admirers”. I’m sure there are many, many letters to Bob that are never sent.

Beautiful prose. I think this piece touches on something many of us feel about comedy, specifically yours: that it can help us reveal a truth we may have been too afraid to uncover.

I loved Lucille Ball, and thinking of this letter, in her voice, warms my heart. Most of us can only surmise the true person when it comes to a hugely admired star. I like thinking that this would be exactly something that she would say. Praying for your good health, and that your heart will be blessed in your performance tonight 🕊️

dear lucy, sometimes in my haste to just grin and get on with it, i forget how vital laughter is to one's mental and spiritual health. your note brings me a grand chuckle- it's a real joy imagining you laughing at my fodder... and, for a moment, it helps me forget how much i usually hate people. thank you earnestly for your kind words and appreciation. your solid, loving presence makes me dread the day much less. w.c. 🤍
