I'm stinging from this one, hooting and hollering inside. You tell 'em Huey!!! This reminds me of Nanny's stories of growing up in a one room shack. She and all her siblings slept on a featherbed on the floor and their parents had a divider. She was the last of 10, born in '31. The doctor rode in on horseback before a snowstorm to deliver her, and stayed until the weather cleared. She's so mean. So, so mean. Hurt me so bad. But those glassy blue eyes, Lord in heaven. She's still making people fall in love with her to this day. Got the whole nursing home wrapped around her little finger. Anything she wants. Never put two and two together that Daddy Boone was a woodworker who made gypsy fiddles for a reason. Always judged anybody who wanted to live an alternative lifestyle, never knowing some of them might have been her own ancestors. And now I'm crying. I didn't end up taking your journals, Nanny. I don't know what became of them, or why you promised them to me. Did you really want me to read those awful things you said? Did you forget you wrote them? I'll always love you.

I just mentioned Huey Long in conversation last week! It’s been almost a lifetime since I saw “Kingfish”, but it left a lasting impression on me. The comparison to P.T. Barnum surprised me at first, however there was so much truth to be said. As much as the exploitation, and deception of the people sadden me, my heart is especially with the “curiosities” who may have never regained the dignity that all people deserve. Thank you, Sir. These have all been amazingly good! May God give you fulfillment in what you do, and especially peace 🕊️

Another thought provoking story! Barnum was in the business of exploiting differences in people for entertainment purposes ( and of course money. ) Huey pointed out the differences between people’s wealth and was ready to right those wrongs -sharing the wealth. It’s easy to see why he might have been pretty angry at Barnum’s bravado! Both on the power hungry side

I just don't understand why I feel so much shame and guilt for not striving for an abundance of riches, whereas somehow many of the rich and powerful live the life of leisure - guilt and shame free. They've somehow created the perfect story, the perfect communities, and perfect 'air' - they breathe admiration and prestige. Instead of conscience and consideration.
