This one was quite funny.

LOL. The Song and dance king tells it like it is!

I think ole Fred is essentially paraphrasing old Bruce....he's preaching a notion, a notion deep inside, that it ain't no sin to be glad you're alive. Yay, existence.

I love this lighthearted story, and readily admit that I am on the side of Fred Astaire. Yes! Let the Martians come, take off their helmets, and tear up the dance floor! If mister doesn’t mind (he doesn’t like to dance), I’d even like to join them. Thank you, Sir … prayers always. I really appreciate everything you do 🕊️

Letter is hilarious ! My favorite quote :" I have no objection to imagination, Mr. Wells. I merely object to imagination that refuses to dress for dinner." Fred Astaire has been described as "asexual" by some. I think it's because in spite of the physical closeness of dancing, his dances never seemed suggestive or sexual . And yet he was a great dancer. Go figure ...

Fred Astaire and H.G. Wells - two men who could not be more different. One saw the future as catastrophe; the other just wanted a decent orchestra. Fred’s verdict: fine imagination, terrible party guest. Forgiveness pending one novel featuring tap-dancing Martians. Wells saw civilization nearly destroy itself and wrote about it in horror. Astaire watched the same broken century and chose to dance. 🎩 And I’d be enjoying a decent evening’s dancing at your concert, Bob. Forever grateful for your kindness & generosity💃🕺

This one is kind of amusing!the elegant versus the pioneering spirit - give them scruffs some manners! I have a feeling HG Wells would just ignore him I have to go read that book again!

Dearest Fred, You’re absolutely right. To be fair, the stories i’ve written about dancing never made the cut. But I’m open to trying something new. Truth be told, I was *just* dancing around unimpressively in the other room (swaying slightly offbeat might be more accurate) before I received your highly critical correspondence and it gave me a brilliant idea: May I have this dance, kind sir? Why tell stories about dancing when we could just cut a rug and let that be the story? You could teach me something, no doubt; and I’d get better at not always talking about the end of the world. You could give a doomsday-alien invasion-human-extinction-writer a chance to learn how to just enjoy a dance! in the meantime, I’ll keep practicing. And I’ll forever remember how annoyed you are right now. Thank you for that feedback, by the way. It takes a village, Fred. with fondness and an exasperating ever-constant eye on another world, HG x

Only read the valediction but this resonates across the board - feel like CtR 'that's all I seem to hear' but need to hear :) 'Until that glorious day, I remain, Yours in mounting exasperation,' When frustrating exasperation is almost an enemy equal to the opposing army :)

“I have no objection to imagination, Mr. Wells. I merely object to imagination that refuses to dress for dinner.” Wise Imagination…. Again, Thank You Bob Dylan for sharing.

Time is running backwards — Fred Astaire moonwalking down the stairs. Any day now.

I'm in awe of the power of Fred's argument. And can't help noticing that dancing, especially backwards downstairs, requires being wholly focused on the present moment, while indulging in fantasies of the future makes fertile ground for spawning visions of horror and despair. Indeed, in the words of a true sage who humbly calls himself a song and dance man, "let all memory and fate be driven deep beneath the waves...let me forget about today until tomorrow."

😄 I'm pretty sure I never made it to the end of The War of the Worlds a long time ago, and that was as far as I went with Wells. I googled Fred Astaire. What a guy... It sounds like he kept the dance alive🕺💃 Good old wikipedia tells me he took up skateboarding in his late 70s. That is quite something! But I do hope that unless you're already a half-pipe ninja Monsieur Dylan (and if so why stop?) that you'll let that one pass, you never know but I suspect it would be pushing it cos I don't think you have Fred's tap dancing prowess which was probably a transferable skill?

Here’s the sharper truth: Wells didn’t just dance around humanity’s flaws; he hurled us into them with prophetic gusto. In an era where we’ve traded graceful waltzes and soaring symphonies for algorithm-fed noise and TikTok twitches, is it any wonder we’ve lost the rhythm to appreciate real dance culture or the depth of classical music? Wells saw the apocalypse coming—not in fire from the sky, but in the quiet erosion of wonder.

Bob, I do not wish to bother you. But i’d like to share a token of my appreciation for you, as i’ve written you a short saying. From Me to You: Bob Dylan, Nobody does it like you. Your words throughout the years, Scarce And Sacred. Needed. In my mind, hopefully others, Bob Kickstarted the minds and the hearts of people around the Globe. Bob Dylan, Cheers to you and your extraordinary mind. The Greatest Of All Time. -Grace

Fire over Heaven -- the image of Wealth. The superior man represses evil and nurtures virtue in accordance with the benevolent will of heaven. Why is it that it's often a Mob cutting me my lucky breaks? Is it because my grandfather supplied Al Capone and the Chicago boys the scrap metal to build their 1920s stove-top gas stills? Is it because my father acted as a 80s greed white collar Texas Savings and Loan Scandal lawyer? Is it because my girlfriend's father was a part of the cornbread mafia? Is it because the President is currently a cross between Emperor Norton I and the Don of all Dons? Or is it just because there's nobody honest left in America? How am I supposed to further the work? Certainly not out the back door as a standard operating procedure.

Music and movement make you feel better or worse! I’m sure Fred Astaire thought deeply when not dancing and H.G. Wells listened to music and just had to move to it. Great story by the way

Absolutely hysterical 💯🎉😂😂😂
