Po is back for some more kung fu action with his next movie, Kung Fu Panda 4. In this review, I’ll be taking a look how the Dragon Warrior can do now that he’s in his final days with that title and is going beyond the trilogy. However, are his moves not as strong as what it used to be, or does the 4th film have a reason to exist other than to give us the Tenacious D cover of Hit Me Baby One More Time?

The fact that this was directed by Mike Mitchell (who also directed “Trolls”, “Lego Movie 2” and “Sponge Out of Water”, all of which I’m not the biggest fan of admittedly…) and written by that guy who wrote Shrek Forever After should’ve been a serious red flag for me. But I did have faith that they could improve and reach the high standard set by the likes of Jennifer Yuh Nelson and Mark Osborne. Now, I’ll admit that I didn’t care much for the third movie, since I felt it paled in comparison to the masterpiece that was the second film. Don’t get me wrong, it was decent. But I thought its storytelling was a far cry from the second film. I’ve yet to see this one and I still kind of expect to like it more than KFP3, but now seeing how KFP4 is turning out so far, I am expecting KFP2 will remain the best one in the franchise for me. Which I think seems to be a pattern for DreamWorks btw. Every time they make a second movie, they always turn out arguably BETTER than the first one. Shrek 2. Kung Fu Panda 2. How to Train Your Dragon 2. Croods: A New Age. Even Boss Baby: Family Business! All of which I consider better movies than their predecessors. Oh, and especially Puss in Boots: The Last Wish, which blows its above-average 2011 predecessor completely out of the water in every conceivable way. But then the third film comes along and that’s when they start jumping the shark. And don't even get me started with Shrek the Third... On a side note, I’m honestly hoping for them to make a superior sequel to The Bad Guys as well, since I personally LOVED that one (perhaps more-so than most people I know XD), and maybe they can make something even better than they already did! ^^ I will say though, and this may come off as a HOT TAKE, I think Madagascar is an exception to that pattern. In my opinion, the second movie is the weakest but still decent. The first movie is a solid middle-ground. And the third movie is my personal favourite, thus I consider it the BEST, of the three. Then the Penguins of Madagascar spin-off film came along, and... I'd rather forget that ever happened. I tried not to spoil anything about KFP4 for myself, since I wanted to go in to the film completely blind… But of course, then my instincts kick in and it turns out it’s another example of “fourth movie = jumping the shark”, and from this review alone, the DreamWorks equivalent of Cars 3. Nice going Gerry… you’re a freakin’ idiot! -_- Oh well, at least The Wild Robot shows a lot of promise... seriously, do yourself a favour and watch that trailer. It. is. INCREDIBLE!! And I have faith already that it'll be an Oscar-worthy masterpiece as the only original animated film coming to theatres in a year full of sequels and reboots!

I know he worked in it, but he's not the real director of Sponge Out of Water. It's Paul Tibbit's movie
