Chapter 1: Spec Check

The late afternoon sun filtered through the dusty windows of Carlie the Tinker Beaver’s workshop, painting long golden stripes across the cluttered floor. Tools hung in orderly rows on pegboards, while half-disassembled engines and scattered gears gleamed under the light. Bunnie D’Coolette leaned against a workbench, arms crossed, her long orange ponytail swaying as she eyed the impressive collection of mechanical limbs and cybernetic components neatly arranged on a nearby shelf.

“Well, sugar,” Bunnie drawled in her thick Southern accent, “you’ve got enough spare parts here to build a whole army of metal bunnies. Think you could whip up a backup set for little ol’ me? These old limbs have seen better days, and a girl likes to have options.”

Carlie the Tinker Beaver looked up from her drafting table, goggles perched on her forehead and a wide, toothy grin spreading across her muzzle. Her blue overalls were smudged with grease, and her large, flat tail thumped once in excitement. “A full spec check and custom spares? You’re speaking my language, Bunnie! I’ve been dying to test some new lightweight alloys and neural-interface upgrades. Give me a few hours and we’ll have you running better than ever.”

Bunnie chuckled and struck a pose in front of the tall mirror propped against the wall. Her reflection showed the familiar purple leotard hugging her athletic frame. “Just make sure they still look like the real deal. Can’t have folks thinkin’ I traded style for steel.”

The beaver dove into her work with characteristic enthusiasm. The workshop filled with the sounds of whirring tools, sparking welders, and Carlie’s occasional triumphant exclamations. Bunnie lounged nearby, offering commentary and sipping sweet tea while Carlie measured, calibrated, and fine-tuned.

A few hours later, as the sunset turned the sky a deep orange, the garage door rumbled open. Honey the Cat bounced in, her twin black pigtails swinging and red boots clicking on the concrete. She was pushing a large, transparent exercise ball ahead of her with practiced ease.

“Hey Carlie! Did you get that clear bubble fixed? The stabilizer ring was acting up last time and— whoa.” Honey’s golden eyes widened as she caught sight of Bunnie standing proudly beside the beaver.

Bunnie now sported a completely fresh set of limbs. Sleek, powerful rabbit legs replaced her old cybernetic ones—digitigrade, furred in rich orange, and ending in strong paws that looked every bit as natural as her original limbs. A matching new arm flexed experimentally at her side, the joints smooth and responsive. The hardware was so advanced it blended seamlessly, giving her the full, fluid motion of an organic bunny while packing hidden technological muscle. She struck a confident pose, one hand on her hip, the other resting on the mirror’s frame.

Carlie beamed, wiping her hands on a rag. “Timing’s perfect, Honey! Just finished the final diagnostics. These new prosthetics are lighter, stronger, and the neural feedback is off the charts. Bunnie wanted spares that wouldn’t scream ‘robot’ from a mile away.”

Honey circled Bunnie slowly, her fluffy tail flicking with curiosity. “They look incredible! Like you were born with ‘em. How do they feel?”

Bunnie grinned, green eyes sparkling with mischief. She took a few experimental steps, then suddenly launched into motion. With a burst of speed, she dashed across the workshop, her new legs propelling her in a graceful, powerful stride. She planted her feet and sprang upward, touching the rafters before landing lightly.

“Feels like freedom, darlin’,” Bunnie laughed. “Carlie even added some optional rocket assists for when I really need to put the pedal to the metal. Y’all should see me on the test track.”

Honey clapped her gloved hands together. “Well, don’t let me stop you! I brought the bubble for some resistance training. Maybe we can test those new legs together?”

Carlie picked up a large wrench and gave it a satisfied spin. “Diagnostics are green across the board. Full range of motion, power output stable, cosmetic integration flawless. I’d call this spec check a roaring success.”

Outside, the test field lights flickered on as the three friends headed out. Bunnie’s new limbs gleamed under the evening glow, ready for whatever adventures came next. For the first time in a long while, the rabbit felt completely, wonderfully whole—thanks to a beaver with a wrench and a dream.

Chapter 2: Over Spec, or Malfunction...

Bunnie stretched luxuriously in the middle of the workshop, rolling her shoulders and testing the seamless movement of her new limbs. The late afternoon light caught the subtle sheen of her orange fur as she turned to Carlie with a satisfied grin.

“Darlin’, I gotta hand it to ya—these feel better than the originals. Smooth as silk, strong as steel, and they don’t even creak when I—”

A sharp crack of energy surged through her lower body, erupting from the hip joint like lightning racing up her spine. Bunnie’s eyes widened, then narrowed as a hot flush bloomed across her face. Her ears twitched violently. Another pulse followed, stronger this time, flooding her with an overwhelming, primal urge that short-circuited every polite thought in her head.

Honey, still straddling her newly repaired transparent exercise ball near the open garage door, tilted her head. “Bunnie? You okay? You look kinda—”

Bunnie moved like a blur.

In a whirlwind of motion, she slammed into the ball, sending Honey tumbling off it with a surprised yelp. Before Carlie could even drop her wrench, Bunnie had the beaver pinned against the brick wall. Strong robotic-yet-furred arms caged Carlie in, Bunnie’s body pressing close. Her face was inches away—cheeks burning crimson, green eyes wild, teeth slightly bared in a mix of desperation and raw hunger. Her fluffy tail flicked erratically.

“B-Bunnie?!” Carlie squeaked, her eyes huge behind her goggles, tools rattling on her belt.

Bunnie’s voice came out low and strained, barely holding back a growl. “Carlie… sugar… what else did you put in these things?” Her hips twitched involuntarily, another spark of simulated bio-feedback shooting through her. She squeezed her eyes shut, fighting the instinct to grind forward. “Tell me. Now.”

Carlie’s ears flattened in panic. “W-well, uh, full neuromuscular simulation for natural feel! Bio-sensors for temperature, pressure, and tactile response! I wanted them to feel real, so I added synthetic hormone regulators and seasonal cycle emulators to match natural rabbit physiology and—oh no.”

Honey scrambled to her feet, brushing dust off her red skirt, eyes widening in realization. “Seasonal cycles?! Carlie, did you accidentally install an in-heat protocol?!”

“I was trying to make everything authentic!” Carlie wailed, pinned firmly in place by the much stronger rabbit. “I didn’t think it would trigger this fast! Or this… intensely!”

Bunnie let out a shaky breath, her face flushed darker, body trembling with the effort of restraint. The new prosthetics were working too well. Every sensor was feeding back overwhelming signals, turning her usual cheerful demeanor into something feral and needy. “Carlie… I’m tryin’ real hard not to do somethin’ we’ll both regret, but these legs and hips got a mind of their own right now…”

Carlie’s voice pitched higher. “Honey! Do something! Quick!”

Honey’s ears perked up. She remembered something from nature documentaries—rabbits had a thing for big, soft, round objects during… certain behaviors. Her eyes darted around the workshop and landed on her supply bag. “Balloons! Big squishy round things! That’s it!”

She frantically dug into her pocket and pulled out a pack of cheap, clear plastic bobo balloons—the kind sold in bulk for parties. Grabbing the nearby bike pump, Honey jammed the nozzle into the first balloon and started pumping with all her might.

Huff-huff-huff—POP!

The balloon burst loudly. Bunnie’s ears snapped toward the sound, her grip on Carlie tightening as another surge hit her.

“Not now!” Honey groaned, grabbing a second balloon. Pump, pump, pump—POP!

Bunnie’s breathing grew heavier. She leaned more of her weight against the beaver, who was now blushing almost as hard as she was, a small cloud of steam puffing from her overheated tool belt.

Third balloon. Honey’s arms burned as she pumped faster. The clear plastic swelled, growing bigger and rounder, squeaking under the pressure. It reached beach-ball size, wobbling translucently in the garage light.

Bunnie’s eyes locked onto the inflating orb. Her instincts warred visibly on her face—desire, embarrassment, and the desperate need for relief.

“Come on, come on…” Honey muttered, tying off the balloon with shaking hands. She rolled the large, bouncy sphere toward Bunnie. “Here! Try this instead!”

The massive clear balloon bumped against Bunnie’s leg. For a tense second, everything hung in the balance. Bunnie’s ears twitched. Her flushed face softened just a fraction as the soft, yielding surface registered against her hyper-sensitive new limbs.

She slowly released Carlie, who slid down the wall with a relieved wheeze, and turned her full, predatory attention to the balloon.

Carlie and Honey exchanged a wide-eyed glance as Bunnie pounced on the substitute with a mix of relief and lingering urgency, the workshop filling with the sounds of squeaking plastic and heavy breathing.

“Well,” Carlie panted, adjusting her overalls, “the good news is the limbs are fully functional. The bad news is… I’m definitely removing the seasonal cycle emulator before the next spec check.”

Honey just wiped sweat from her brow and reached for another balloon. “Yeah. Let’s make that a priority.”
