Percy

I really fucked up. Like, totally, utterly fucked up. It was such a big fuck up that I barely slept all night because my mind wouldn’t stop replaying what happened in Asher’s bedroom. Every time I closed my eyes, I would see him standing there half-naked in that sexy Spider-Man costume. And normally I can resist it. I can control the ball of raging hormones I’ve become over the past couple of years.

But something happened to me when I saw that muscular ass disappear beneath the tight material. Something in me just snapped. And now I can’t stop imagining it. I can still feel his solid back against my chest. I can still feel the way his ass felt when it squeezed around my dick. And even better than that, I can still feel his cock in my hand—growing, thickening into steel covered in smooth velvet. I can still feel his pulse stuttering as he came undone at my hands.

I made that happen.

It was a mistake. Another stupid fucking mistake that might cost me the best thing in my life. My friendship with Asher means the world to me. He means the world to me. And I’m pretty sure I ruined it all because I couldn’t stop myself from touching him. Fucking idiot.

It had been going so well, too. I’d been able to hide my feelings for him for over ten years now. I was eight years old when I first realized that I had a crush on him. Most kids at that age don’t really care about that stuff. They think girls have cooties and your guy friends are the best things in the world. But not me. I understood that I was different from all the other little boys. Hell, most boys that age still want to marry their mom. But not me. I wanted to marry Asher.

I was young enough and innocent enough to say it to my parents. I Percy Cooper, was going to marry Asher Hawthorne—just like Daddy married Mommy. That night was the first time I heard them fight, though it wouldn’t be the last.

None of that matters now. I. Fucked. Up. And I don’t even know how to fix it. Unlike my gay ass, Asher is as straight as an arrow. He and his family are into all that religious shit like going to church on Sundays and reading the Bible. I don’t think I’ve ever even been to a church. Dad never forced me even though he goes on Sundays, and I’m pretty sure Mom is allergic to the place. Not that it matters, Sundays are my switch-off days where I spend half the morning stuffing my things into a bag so I can shlep all the way across town to live with the next parent who’ll spend all week ignoring me. Then rinse and repeat. Mom. Ignores me. Dad. Ignores me. But Asher never ignores me.

Last night was the first time he ever ignored me. After I made it back to my dad’s place, I texted him like a crazy person. Apologizing. Begging for forgiveness. Begging him to talk to me. I sent him close to a dozen text messages, and he didn’t respond to a single one. Which is why I’m driving to his house at six in the morning so I can pick him up for school, even though I usually only pick him up when I’m at my mom’s house.

I pull up right behind the bus at the corner where all the students in the neighborhood wait to get picked up. I spot Asher standing there scrolling on his phone while he waits for a bunch of freshmen to climb on and flash my lights. He looks up and squints in my direction. His lips thin into a small line, and instead of walking to my car, he shakes his head and steps onto the bus, leaving me there.

I really fucked up.

My heart speeds up going a mile a minute, and the muggy Florida heat doesn’t do anything to help calm me down, so I roll up my windows and blast the AC, turning down the temperature to a crisp sixty degrees. I’m surprised that my car can even get that cool since Asher hates the cold and we never turn the AC down past seventy.

It doesn’t take me long to get to Clearwater High, though the student parking lot is already half full by the time I pull in. I find a space towards the back of the lot where no one will bother me and turn the key. The engine ticks as it cools, and I run through the million things I want to say to him. I’m sorry. I fucked up. I didn’t mean it. I love you.

No, that last one is something I cannot say. Not if I want him to be my friend again. A haunted, sleep deprived version of me stares back through the rearview mirror, accusing me of messing things up all over again. It’s always my fault.

A knock jolts me from my thoughts, and Cassie is standing there in thigh-high boots, fishnet stockings, a black skirt, and a black top, making her look like some goth anime girl. “Earth to Percy!” She knocks on the window again and doesn’t stop until I unbuckle my belt with a sigh and get out.

“Well, good morning, sunshine.” She grins at me. “What are you doing here so early? You’re usually the last one to get here.”

I duck my head and start walking towards the entrance. “I was going to pick up Asher.”

Cassie stops in her tracks and looks around. “Well, where is he? Did he go inside already?”

My face warms and I mumble, “Uh, no. There was a mix-up, and he got on the bus instead.”

She arches an eyebrow. “Why are you being weird?”

I scoff, then try to laugh it off. “I’m not being weird. You’re being weird.”

“Percy.”

“It’s nothing, Cassie. Just drop it, please.”

Thankfully, she nods, and we walk through the breezeway where students are hanging out. We get some curious looks as we make our way to our usual morning spot, but then again, we always get some curious looks.

It’s not until we finally get to the small courtyard towards the back of campus that I realize something’s up. Kids are snickering and pointing more than usual, and there are a couple of scowls too.

“Uh, Percy.” Cassie stops in her tracks again, her eyes widening as she looks at something on her phone. “Please don’t get upset, but are you gay?”

My heart drops into my stomach when she shows me what’s on her phone.
