All characters engaged in sexual activity are 18 or older.

“I can’t believe you’re dating Jake and you didn’t tell me!” Liam pouts, throwing his stuffed Pikachu at my head.

I bat it away. “I’m not dating him… We’re just fooling around.”

“Ollie, the guy just bought you a fifteen hundred dollar laptop. He texts you all the time. He kissed you in public. He’s told his best friend about the two of you fooling around—which, btw, is what you should have done with me—and he, most importantly, very obviously likes you.”

The entire room feels like it’s spinning. There’s no way that he likes me like that. Is there? I mean, technically, there’s nothing wrong with anything Liam just said, but… “I don’t know. Maybe you’re right about all those things, but that doesn’t mean we’re dating. We haven’t even talked about that. Besides, you know I can’t date another football player.”

Liam’s face softens, and he shuffles across the room and sits next to me, our backs to the wall. “Look, I know that asshole, Derek, hurt you. But I really don’t think Jake’s like that. He genuinely seems like a nice guy.”

I sigh and lean against him, trying to wrap my head around the idea of dating Jake. It just seems so unlikely. “I don’t know, Liam. What if this is all just some game to him? Or what if he gets off on all this daddy stuff, and I’m just someone shiny and new to spoil? I don’t even know that much about him. It’s not like we’ve hung out outside of our tutoring sessions.”

“Well, while you’ve been busy fooling around with him. I’ve actually Googled him,” Liam says, sitting up straight.

“And what did you find? Is he secretly an axe murderer?”

Liam chuckles. “No, honestly, there’s not much out there about him we don’t already know. Just his football stats from high school—which I’m told are very impressive. And that he was the only openly bisexual player on his team.”

“Okay, so what do I do? I can’t keep that, can I?” I look at the laptop that’s still in its box by my feet.

“Why not? He bought it for you.”

“Yeah, but it’s so expensive. He plays college football, not in the NFL. Where did he get the money from?”

“Maybe he’s rich. Or at least his parents are,” Liam says.

“Maybe… I should say something to him, right?”

Liam hands me my phone, unlocking it with my passcode for me. “You definitely should say something.”

I tap on our text thread and just go for it.

Me: Thanks for the laptop. You really didn’t have to.

Daddy Jake: anything for my baby 😘

Daddy Jake: did you like it?

Me: I love it! It’s so thoughtful.

Daddy Jake: good, I wasn’t sure if you’d like that brand.

Me: It’s perfect.

I want to say it’s perfect like him, but I feel like that would be too much. So instead, I send the next best option.

Me: I can’t thank you enough, so how about I take you out to dinner? My treat.

Daddy Jake: no need to thank me but I won’t say no to a date with you

Me: Cool! I’ll text you the details later.

Daddy Jake: can’t wait 😉

“See, was that so hard?” Liam pokes me in the shoulder.

I laugh, still not believing this is happening. “No, I guess not. But now, I have to figure out a date night with him!”

“You’ll figure it out. Besides, you have me to help you. It’s not like I’ve got a hot football player thirsting after me, so I guess I’ll just have to live vicariously through you.”

“Holy shit! I completely forgot to tell you!” I look at Liam, trying to sus out if what I’m about to say is actually a surprise for him or if he’s just as much of a liar as I am. “So Ryan told me to tell you he said ‘hi.’ Twice!”

“What?” he shrieks. No, he did not!”

I nod, grinning and relieved that I can give him a bit of good news. “I’m pretty sure he’s crushing on you, hard.”

“OMG! Ollie, you have to tell me everything!”

The only place I can afford to take Jake on a date that’s halfway decent is the Olive Garden. So when Jake burst out laughing when I tell him, I assume it’s because he was expecting some ritzy restaurant with fine dining.

He waves his hand, wiping a tear from the corner of his eye. “I’m sorry. It’s just that I love Olive Garden, but my poor Italian grandmother has a heart attack every time I mention it. She thinks it’s blasphemous for anybody of Italian descent to eat there, is all.” I chuckle, trying not to show my relief.

Thankfully, the car ride is short, and we spend it talking about what kind of music we each like. To my surprise, he’s just as into white girl music as I am, so we blast some Britney while debating who’s the better vocalist: Mariah Carey or Celine Dion.

Jake holds the door open for me, and I’m able to get a good look at him as we wait for our table. He’s wearing a black button-down that stretches nicely over his muscular shoulders and blue jeans that hug his thighs. He’s also styled his normally messy hair into a middle part, making him look extra handsome. Jake catches me staring at him, so I whisper, “You look really cute.”

He beams and takes my hand into his and kisses my cheek, murmuring, “Thanks. So do you. Though I have to be honest—I’m hoping that neither of us will be in these clothes by the end of the night.”

A furious blush colors my cheeks, and my cock twitches at the thought of what we might be doing in a few hours. Thankfully, the hostess leads us to our table before I decide to drag him to the bathroom.

We order, and while we wait for our appetizers, he asks me a question I was hoping would never come up. “How are you still single? I would have thought that a guy like you would have someone already.”

I take a deep breath, trying not to let the bad memories ruin the mood. “Uh, it’s a bit of a long story. But let’s just say that I have a bit of a history with football players.”

He nods and thankfully doesn’t seem upset that I’m not revealing too much tonight. “I get it. Is that why you were hesitant about us at first?”

Us. What does he mean by us? I want to ask, but it still feels too soon. “Sort of,” I admit. “The other part of me was just thrown off by all your… nakedness. I don’t usually do hookups. And by usually, I mean never.”

Jake chuckles awkwardly, running his hand through his hair. “So I guess you thought I was a bit of a slut when I told you I hooked up with a lot of people?”

I shake my head. “Not at all. Everyone has their preferences and comfort zones. I’m just more of a one guy at a time type of person.”

He smirks, that mischievous smile of his spreading across his face. “So I guess that rules out any foursomes between us and Ryan and Liam?” My jaw drops, and he bursts out laughing that wonderful laugh of his. “Relax, Ollie. I have no intention of sharing you with anyone.”

I laugh softly. “Good, cause I don’t like sharing either.”

Jake smiles and takes my hand into his from across the table. Just as he’s about to say something, I hear a voice I never thought I’d hear again. “Oliver? Is that you?”

I freeze, then slowly look up to see the one person I never wanted to see again. It’s Derek, my ex.
