I think that some fans need time to warm up to Arirang because of how different it is. It took me until my third run through and watching the Comeback Live to really latch onto all of the songs. Now I love it. But I can understand why some people - yes, even some ARMYs - are taking more time to adjust. It feels like forever, but the album has been out less than two weeks. I have faith that it will grow on those fans who are hesitant. (Not antis, though. They can die mad about it.)

Yeah. And sometimes it's hate, sometimes it's just genuinely not to people's taste, and (I think) most of the time, it takes people a while to brush off the last era they were so immersed in with music videos, live performances, photo shoots, etc to embrace the new content. Part of the reason BTS are so amazing is that they are not afraid to take those risks. It's possible that they lost people between the school trilogy and HYYH, but they gained so many more in return while staying true to themselves.

Nah don't worry guys! The album is very much loved and has already broken many historical records reaching number 1 on bb. BTS are the first act to occupy the entire top 10 spots of the Global Excl. U.S. chart simultaneously! Also they got No. 1 on Artist 100, debuting 13 Songs on Hot 100 From ARIRANG, No.29 could've made it if it had lyrics as well lol...unfortunately the haters can be loud sometimes so just ignore them! We waited for this album for so long and they didn't disappoint us as always. And most of us feel really lucky and thankful to have such a loving and caring group like them! They worked so hard despite the pressures... The disclaimers are taking me out. Istg I’ll defend y’all from the crazies 😭😭 I’ve been into K-pop since 2007, I started with a group named SHINee, then I stopped listening to K-pop in 2013 right before BTS debuted and came back to it late 2016 right for BTS’ Blood, Sweat & Tears, and I’ve been an army since. I’m also an engene, fan of ENHYPEN (group that debuted in 2020), and while I only consider myself an actual fan of these two I do listen to a loooooot of K-pop. BTS is seriously the most dynamic group I’ve seen. BTS wants to keep performing until they’re in their 60s, or so Yoongi said. BTS keep their private lives extremely private, which is great tbh, good for them (and Jungkook doing his dishes, laundry, and falling asleep while streaming LMAO).

RM dropped “Rap Monster” back in 2017 because he felt like it didn’t really fit who he was anymore. Back then his style was a lot more aggressive (very focused on proving himself, calling out haters, showing off his rap) but as he grew, his music became way more experimental and poetic. “Rap Monster” is still a sick name, it just represents a younger version of him that he doesn’t fully identify with now. That’s why he kept it as RM. It’s simpler, more flexible, and he’s said it can stand for “Real Me” which fits the direction he’s taken artistically.

I have been an Army for 10 years and I got into kpop because of BTS, I wanted to see the competition and to know the lore of why nobody likes BTS. Let's just say there is no competition. They have been in military for 4 years in total, no other kpop group got even close. Them as soloists were still winning awards of other kpop and western artists. I will get hate from others, but some of the other big groups in kpop got big because of BTS hype, won't name names, but you all know. Usually I prefer girl groups in kpop, but I don't care about them as people, I don't watch interviews, only songs. BTS is the only artist I care about beyond music.

I'm very honest when I say BTS has some of the most cinematic and documented rises to fame ever. I've known them since 2015 and it's actually astounding what they've achieved. They're also the idols that were one of the first in the Kpop industry to drop the mysterious act and share everything on their Youtube and Twitter and have their own variety shows. I feel like since BTS got successful other groups followed the same formula of building a fandom

just so y'all know, in Kpop, dating is kept under WRAPS. The fans over there are very parasocial and ppl have been boycotted because of dating "scandals". I’m really glad you guys watched this guide too because it actually fills in a lot that the Taylor one doesn’t, especially their military era. That whole period was huge for their solo careers—starting with Jin, they’d drop solo music and then enlist, and one by one they all did the same. Even while serving or after coming back, they were still putting stuff out, so fans were never really left with nothing. It also helped show their individual styles more, like Jungkook becoming super mainstream globally (like the World Cup performance), while still being part of a group that works insanely well together. That’s why I think both guides are important. The Taylor one is a classic intro, but this one gives more updated context. But honestly from here you guys can just chill and enjoy whatever you want! Music, performances, documentary, whatever pulls you in 😊

The comments will come at me for this but McKay isn't wrong in saying the reaction to the album for some fans hasn't been the best. I don't think he was talking about people who are chronic haters and want to bring them down on purpose. Those are easy to spot. I was one of the people that initially didn't connect to the album until a few more listens. Also you can see the reason why in the doc. They say so themselves that they went a different route so it's not weird for some people to not be used to it right away. They collabed with more ppl, they experimented and tried new genres so it's very normal to not be used to something new. It's still an amazing album but if I had to rank my favorite albums by them, personally it wouldn't be at my #1. I'm also seeing a lot of people have the same experience as me online. After more listens they feel much different. Also for example, I was not into 2.0 at all. I very easily get turned off from repetitive music/lyrics, but after watching the performance and now the MV, I literally can't stop watching it/listening to it. I see the Swimside Jimin's dance fancam in my dreams because it's so imprinted in my head. Part of BTS' magic is that they're such pros at what they do and they're so multifaceted that it's impossible not to love whatever they put out.

I agree, this what always happens with majority of Kpop reaction channels. I have experienced this when I tried to promote Seventeen and SKZ on a channel the only replies I got were to stop promoting because this channel is never going to do any other group so I should stop commenting and promoting my 'nugu' groups here. Army's don't promote or let anybody else promote any other group. This will also be just another BTS reaction channel. Though I hope it's not Geks aren't like that and they will go to other groups eventually, but still I get what you are saying because that is what happens almost with all of the kpop reaction channels.

You’re kinda right. There are toxic fans everywhere, but with bigger fanbases there’s naturally more of them. This isn’t even just a k-pop thing either, western artists like Taylor Swift or Beyoncé for example have their fair share of aggressive fans too. I've been loving BTS's new album so much, everything that it represents about them staying true to their roots and exploring their music as they've always done & transcending stereotypical expectations. From my perspective the hate towards the album does indeed go mostly from kpop spaces, I watch a lot of music reaction channels that don’t react to kpop or don’t usually do that and the majority really liked the album like I would even say this it bts’ most well received album by general public and fontano does have some great takes on his channel but he also said a lot of controversial things like Halsey having a “victim complex” in an album where she talks about her illness and how she’s scared of leaving her child alone and correct me if I’m wrong but he also said that he doesn’t read the lyrics of foreign artists he reviews so tbh I can’t really take his opinion seriously

i feel like one thing that will help just going forward is to realize that as big as bts seems now, they’ve always been heavily hated on in proportion to their fame. when a new album drops, first wave is always a floodgate of “hate” saying this is their worst album yet, blah blah blah, then the music and results speak for themselves, then next album comes out and all of a sudden the past album was the best and this is the new worst, and cycle repeats. gotta remember the loudest voices are usually the extremes, but 95% of public and fans are in the middle area that casually enjoys and doesn’t comment. being a baby army first diving in and learning all the content is one of the best parts, hope you guys can enjoy this journey to the fullest 💜
