When BTS debuted they didn’t have a big fanbase. Theres a video of them in the dance practice room getting happy of a tweet they posted getting a 1,000 likes or replies (can’t quite remember). They really worked hard even tho they didn’t have a huge fanbase compared to groups that were in big time companies. The first music video that went over a million for was ‘Boy in Luv’ in early 2014. Then in 2015 when they released ‘Dope’ was the first time they really went viral on a music video. And the rest is history

I don’t quite understand your comment about V’s solo album… It’s important not to compare his project to the other pop/mainstream albums. His was slow r&b with jazz influence and received so many positive reviews. His song winter Ahead is doing amazing especially for a jazz song. It’s just not the same category so I would not expect the same results. I think V knew that when he did his album. He never aimed for charts or big streams and I admire that a lot about him. Also YouTube is a strange place…

From what I know, because there is fan culture, people look out for new groups, especially from new companies. Maybe there were people who liked other artists in Bighit and were checking for new ones. They were posting blogs and probably created anticipation. Jimin was buff because of contemporary dance, usually people in that field have intense core strength, he still has abs and overall core strength. Because of their hiphop cool concept, as the person with abs, company asked him to show abs during MVs and performances. They utilized his body image and acrobatic skills (from martial arts he has done: taekwando & kendo) to push bad boy concept. I think he mentioned later how self-conscious he was, how hard it was to maintain muscles with diets and how it wasn't his image. As soon as they went away from this concept, he lost a lot of weight due to intense diets he put himself in. It took some time for him to accept himself, Jin and other guys were making sure he eats. They are all are just babies, JK especially, he was 16. But Jin was only 21. You have to put yourself on TV, grind and then they get all that criticism. They had to grow up faster in professional sense. I am glad they had time to goof around and have fun.

Yes basically they used Jimin’s body to get more attention and that really affected his self esteem. Even on those shows the did back then those host would sexualize jimin so much. I always remember that clip when those host were trying to kiss him. He looked so uncomfortable. I’m so happy he finally seems to be happy with who he is now.

Lol they definitely have the ability to do hard choreo, but you have to understand they left the military and put together an album, a world tour, MVs, photoshoots, promotions, distribution, merch, & more in 9 months. They did the best they could with this comeback with the time they had.

I feel like the way this was worded comes across a little unfair because it unintentionally makes one member look like the only one who stayed true to himself, while making the others sound like they were just chasing charts. While I agree that it’s not really fair to compare a pop album with a slower R&B/jazz-influenced album because they are completely different styles and appeal to different audiences, I don’t think that means the other members were simply making music for chart success. All of the BTS members have expressed wanting good results during their solo careers, but that doesn’t make them “chart hungry.” As artists, whether they like it or not, charts and numbers are part of how music is measured and how many people discover their work. Every member chose an artistic identity based on who they are, what they wanted to express, and what genres fit their voices best. V’s vocal tone especially fits R&B and jazz-influenced music well, which is why Layover felt so natural for him. But that doesn’t mean the other members were being less authentic. For example, Jimin also enjoys R&B, but he chose a more pop-heavy album because that was the best way for him to express what he was feeling at the time. Pop allows for strong melodies, emotional vocals, and a certain kind of storytelling that matched what he wanted to convey with FACE. He didn’t choose pop simply because he wanted better chart results, and the same applies to the rest of the members. I think V deserves appreciation for making the kind of album he wanted, especially because it was different from what is usually more mainstream, but the other members also stayed true to themselves. They just expressed themselves through different genres.

you guys just haven’t seen enough of their content and choreos or concerts (arirang songs choreo are amazing). jimin, of course, is still as athletic +their career demands it. honestly, not only are they passionate about perfecting their crafts, but they’re also workaholics. they still do dance practice for hours and hours, and give us content constantly still. of course, they’ve finally learned how to pace themselves, but before the military, they were so mentally and psychically drained bc of the lifestyle they’ve had for 10+ years in this industry. you guys found them at such a good stage where they’re finally pacing themselves and taking care of their health.

bts really started a social media movement in kpop, even now if you look at multiple kpop artists twitter accounts, most were made after 2017-2018 when bts won a top social artist award. the consisten youtube vlogs and behind the scenes footage and constant posting on twitter got them a lot of attention early on that a lot of other groups and companies didnt focus on during that time until after bts showed how valuable that type of interaction with fans was.

Regarding Layover, majority of the fandom prefer Pop music so that's why. Its okay tho since V loves to release music he love not just for hype, trend or tiktok type of music. His album received great review from critics and one of the best among the released. He's doing well.

They werent THAT famous if you compare them with the then "Big 3" idols. These companies had company fans and they supported any team from those companies(same now,hybe idols get recognition thru BTS). So, debuting in a big company is VERY favourable. Other idol groups didnt start youtube before BTS,yet tey were known before debut becoz those companies promoted them even as tranies(in other MVs,sometimes side acting jobs, backup dancers etc) so when they debuted, they almost always have a big fandom.Bangtan earned their fandom thru social media interactions, mainly thru youtube and twt. As I have said earlier, they are some of the pioneers of idol youtubers in SK. Nowadays almost all groups have a utube acc and twt acc.Bts had it before debut. So, they had some fans(which were LOUD) but now that many. Plus, they didnt just get to perform! Their debut performance u saw was becoz some other group refused last minute and they had that slot. You need to perform Live for exposure to gen public,but BTS eing from smaller company lacked the opportunities to get slots. Youtube and social media has always been their turf. Thats why when people ask how BTS are soo popular on social media etc. its funny beocz thats how they got started and recognise.Also, they were a hiphop group in the start(u can see the costumes ,songs, dance etc).They transitioned to soft core music during "I Need You", Hyyh album-their 4th album, i think?Thats when they won their first award and got sort of mainstream. And, this docu is fire but it does not show how much they went thru in their earlier years.Like not even the tip of the iceberg.They were ridiculed and like pushed,by almost everyone.Thats why i am soo connected to even BigHit,coz bless them to support these boys and give them the artistic freedom. Many companies would have snatched that freedom when they saw the group not being recieved well,but Bnag Pd was determined !!Man i respect that man sm.Sorry for the long comment lmao.

What an amazing surprise video! 💜 This episode is always such an emotional watch. Seeing how young they all were, how hard they worked, and everything they sacrificed to chase their dream really puts their journey into perspective. The Jungkook prank is especially hard to watch because he sounds genuinely scared. He’s so young here, and that just makes it even harder to watch.

I hope you guys don't take the comments too much to heart. I truly believe it was mostly constructive feedback, and a lot of it comes from a place of love because we are all big fans of the Geks. I didn’t feel any hate at all. It just seemed like many people weren’t fully ready for the sudden livestream announcement, and the sheer volume of comments made it look worse than it actually was. I guess the reaction was mainly due to uncertainty. There is a very diverse group of K-pop fans here. Some mentioned that the comment section was total chaos during the last livestream, so it’s hard to predict what you will choose or to figure out what is genuinely the most requested. Maybe next time, it would help to inform us a bit earlier with more specific details (like the length of the livestream, the platform, etc.). It might also be a good idea to run a poll to see what people want the most, though of course, that's entirely up to you! Personally, I’d be so grateful if you could include behind scene content or MV when you react to songs like JK’s World Cup video, unless you prefer to keep MVs, behind scenes content, and live performances completely separate. We really appreciate your content and 100% think you guys deserve good quality time, especially in such a big national holiday!!

I can't speak for everyone, but I personally use Patreon SPECIFICALLY bc I want regular access to new reactions, that I don't want to wait for on YouTube. I don't particularly care about polling, discord, or exclusive content perks. I didn't really comment my thoughts on the Polls thread bc I felt like others were already sharing my opinion and I didn't want to dogpile. Although livestreams are fine, and fun to replace ONE of the regular posts as a special event, I am not a Patron that is interested in going 10 days (1/3 of month), with only one video. Especially when the last video was only 12 minutes long. And that was the implication...that the livestream would replace not one, but 3 videos throughout the week. While I understood the fairness and rationale of it all (afterall I'm sure they will be watching more than 3 videos in that one stream), it does nothing for me the other 8 or 9 days. Since Patron is a monthly subscription, in my mind if that's the case, then I could just pay for a one month video-dump, then dip for a few months (which I have done for other Patreons). I already was considering that when they said early on that they were only going to post 3 vids/days per week (which many people have already advised that for kpop at least, that's only about half the frequency that other kpop Patreons post). What kept me being a regular supporter, besides the amazing content and the guys themselves, was the community here and above all the (mostly) consistent schedule of content I enjoy. But I've already lowered my threshold, so at some point if even that frequency is not being met, users like me that want things "sprinkled" regularly, are not going to be happy about less post days...even if the stream is 6 hours LOL. There is absolutely NOTHING personal about it, and I don't think the guys are necessarily doing anything wrong (it's just difference of tastes and uses of Patreon). And full disclosure I DID cancel my next month's membership (which expires tomorrow, a day before the livestream LOL, so Karma fckd me right up I guess), as soon as we got the announcement there would only be one video between last Fri and next Monday. Bc, again in my mind, why pay for "empty days". If I'm already having to wait for videos, I could just wait an extra couple weeks, and pay $5 the next month over and catch up then. Anywho. I'll catch yall in August, I guess LOL. Unless July is a particularly active month and/or my willpower fails. ETA: Also, I realized most of my comment has nothing to do with your comment, and is certainly not directed to you. I agree 100% with your comment. for sure, feedback is great when it's actually helpful. there's a big difference btwn normal feedback and acting like a corporate manager auditing a timecard. throwing a whole tantrum over a holiday schedule and demanding makeup homework is crazy. i’ve subscribed to many patreon channels in the past and i've seen this exact demanding attitude make creators start BLOCKING ppl and ceasing patreon channel activity all together and they just go back to youtube because it gets too toxic. adding "no offense" or calling it "constructive criticism" doesn't change the fact that acting like we own them is exactly how great channels get ruined for everyone

Hi geks, thank you for this surprise also I really appreciate all the work you put into the channel, and I hope you don't take the feedback as people turning against you it's coming from people who genuinely enjoy and support your content. With that said, I have an idea that might be a good compromise. How about tomorrow's livestream prioritizes groups other than BTS? Then next week we could finally get an Arirang concert reaction. We've all been patiently waiting for months since the award show vs. concert mix up, so I think that would be a nice way to make up for it. For next week's poll, maybe it could be to decide which concert date to watch. I've seen a lot of requests for Busan Day 2, and honestly I agree the energy that day was incredible, plus it's their anniversary. Just wanted to throw that idea out there! I think it'd be fair to dedicate tomorrow's stream to other groups while making it up to ARMY with the Arirang concert next week. I think that would leave everyone feeling heard.

I definitely agree that people shouldn’t be rude or entitled, that just leads to more issues and is very disrespectful. I just don’t really remember seeing anyone act like a “corporate manager” over it, but I also only read the top comments, and the main one I saw was pretty respectful. I also think it’s reasonable for people to point out that if a holiday is planned well in advance, filming ahead is something a lot of creators do, especially on a paid platform. That isn’t people acting like they own the creators, it’s just feedback from people financially supporting the content. As long as it’s being said respectfully, I don’t see an issue with expressing that. From what I see, the Geks took the feedback well and didn’t seem too upset by it either. I agree that there’s obviously a line where criticism turns into entitlement, but I also don’t think majority of the criticisms should be generalized as people “throwing a tantrum” or acting like they own the channel. Other than that I completely agree with you!

Sometimes i forget that this is the same BTS. The same RM that gives speeches at UN and same yoongi that now seems like a mystery and the same JK who does shirtless lives now. Like, two very different planets almost but always the same awareness and love they have for music and the fans. Its crazy how aware and mature RM was at his age, like that man was and is soo damn smart and good and every good adjective. Soo passionate and expressive. i think choreos in general have changed and now aim to be more “challenge friendly” or “trendy”. in bts’s case, since they had no influence or media support they really needed big impressive moves. they’re now mostly in their thirties and they’re going on world tour with 2h+ long concerts so it totally makes sense that they would focus on cool but not too exhausting choreos. what’s funny is that jimin still does flips on his own on stage lol it’s crazy that he was 17 in the clip u saw in this and he’s now 30 still the same

Their early vlogs were on their YouTube channel guys ~ BANGTANTV. They also had a Fan Cafe, on the SK platform Daum, which is a platform for messaging and posting, allowing discussions and blog posts, etc. Later they got on Kakao Entertainment Co.'s new platform VLive, but later Big Hit made BTS their own platform (Weverse) in order to protect them from abuse on other platforms. Weverse eventually swallowed VLive whole and is now the premier artist/fan engagement platform in SK with many other artists on it now besides BTS, both artists from labels attached to the company BTS helped build from the ground up (HYBE) which owns Weverse, and others, even some Western artists.
