now that you’ve reacted to I Need U, you’ve officially entered the BU storyline 😭 just a little warning: this is a fictional story, not a series of completely unrelated music videos. From this point on, the MVs are connected and tell an ongoing story, so don’t worry if you feel like you don’t understand everything at first. You’re actually supposed to pay attention to the little details, because a lot of things are hidden in the visuals, lyrics and symbolism. And honestly, don’t look up an explanation yet! I’d recommend continuing chronologically and trying to figure out what’s happening yourselves. That’s half the fun. The full storyline is HUGE and has been developing for years. If you eventually want to understand literally everything, you’d have to go beyond the MVs: there are books/notes to read, a video game, highlight reels, a webtoon adaptations that expand the story from different perspectives and from last year even a tv series. And even then, the story isn’t exactly finished even today. So for now, just keep going in chronological order, notice the details, make your theories, and accept that you’re probably going to be confused sometimes, that’s part of the experience!

This is the BTS i love and remember! The good old stuff they did, the storylines, the music and just everything about that time. The music and the story is just so good! The new stuff just doesn't compare with the old bts. Just in my opinion! I feel like they are becoming to Americanist for me. Specially with who they seem to surround themselfs with now. Guys 'Ah Yeah' by EXID was about raising awareness about the hardships of expectations surrounding women in korea, and EXID has some of the most revolutionary vocalists and rappers in the industry. I NEED U is one of my favorite BTS songs along with that album (masterpiece btw) but they 100% deserved that win 😭😭

So you mentioned that you were curious about BTS thinking about disbanding. That was around 2017 where they reached a high point in their career and they were working themselves to the bone so much so they basically didn’t even get a day off for 30 days straight. They were exhausted. They were tired. They were wondering why they would put themselves through so much pain physically just to be successful. They were able to lift one another up, turn things around and decided to stay together. They didn’t stay together because of an award they stayed together because they wanted to be together. Now their work ethic is much more healthy. The boys have always loved each other and what they do and they work incredibly hard.

I mean kpop as a whole is pretty much black culture. But i feel like kpop now is so much more americanist now then when I first started listening to it. Every song now is more english then korean. Fair enough. I think kpop was arguably more Americanised back then. Like 1st and 2nd gen groups would just completely copy songs from American/black artists. At least now, they’re more intentional with showing appreciation etc

I get the point that you miss their old songs and concepts, and there’s nothing wrong with preferring that era. But at the same time, I think it’s unrealistic and unfair to expect them to stay the same forever. They’re not teenagers anymore, but grown men in their 30s who are at a completely different stage of life now. So naturally their music, concepts and the things they want to talk about are going to evolve with them. Especially since they write so much of their own music, it makes sense that their lyrics reflect their current stage of life. I still think the new album has deep and meaningful lyrics, just in a way that fits who they are now. We can criticise them for things but saying "surround themselves with..." as if they do that on a daily basis is straight up witch hunt and blowing it out of proportion.

I love Dylan and yes he is Army, he was reacting to their songs on his old music channel. Then he decided to focus on movies. Winning music show is a first step in getting recognized in Korea. BTS's rise seemed weird to Koreans, cause they weren't that big there, they were bigger outside of Korea because of social media reach. Like they weren't on tv shows much cause they lacked connections, but social media was new and free and they used it, while Big 3 focused on TV radio and Korea.

Carter is right, they are calling each other "girl". RM confirmed the lyrics were supposed to be "I need you friend" but friend didn't sound quite right/wasn't as catchy as girl. Also carter is slightly right about them being more happy together but its not current day. The clips are them together in the past vs them in the present day disconnected from each other. As you dive more into the BU plot you'll find out why they lost contact with each other and how that affected them

During the I Need U–DNA era, they were really in their prime. Now, as someone in my 20s, I honestly think most of them are in their prime now. But since the majority of kpop fans in Korea are elementary to high school students, they might see idols in their 30s as looking too mature. Kpop idols generally go for a more boyish look rather than a manly one.

Yaaaay finally I need u. I love first time reactions to it lol. And definitely check out the BU it’s still part of their music. I loved this episode my only problem was the cutting the rm and Jimin scenes. On the elevator RM thanks Jimin and tells him how Jimin really helped the team elevate at that time. And then the moment when Jimin hugged RM the scene was cut and Jimin said more and RM thanked Jimin again for always being there. I always wish she kept the full clips. Like give me my minimoni crumbs please lol. A lot of those ending clips are from their summer packages it’s like a mini Bon voyage but they there for a photo shoot. It’s super funny and sweet they’re like an hour long.

BTS actually has a documentary it’s about 8 episodes i forget which one but they talk about them wanting to disband. It’s was due to the quick fame they achieved like the blew up quick and fast. And a lot of the pressure was getting to them. They were also overworked. A lot of the members were going through bad depression. The rapline has a song called Tear where the song is about them thinking of disbanding. They talked about it on quite a few platforms.

BTS UNIVERSE: - - - - - - - - - - "I Need U" - is not about a girl, BUT it is the early 2010s an you need a catch hook, and some sort of "romance" (that's how I've always explained it to myself, if you want to go even deeper "girl" is often considered an allegory for the relationship of these 7 boys). VERY Simply explained: The BU is a Coming of Age story of 7 boys, who have shitty lives (some more than others) and Jin ("main character") trying to keep them together, because whenever they are not together, (REALLY) BAD SHIT happens; "GIRL" is "THEIR FRIENDSHIP". PS - There will be girls in each of these characters lives but they are more like "fillers" than cause of contention, as in, they are young boys, so they will do what young boys do, but the issues are never caused because "they loved a girl so much", the issues are; hella deep and for the most part HEAVILY FAMILY related (like, the person who was being stabbed was "Tae's" dad, who was defending his sister, from the dad's abuse).

For All - "Why are they wearing the same outfit" - Jackson Octavius Yates was close, but not really. As "not so popular" bands, our boy had to WORK EXTREMELY HARD, all the time (The first OFFICIAL holiday they ever had was 2019 😬) ... they WERE NOT part of the big 3, so they needed to make income somehow, but also couldn't burnout their talent (which ... still kinda happened but that's another story for another time) so they came up with : SUMMER PACKAGES and WINTER PACKAGES. The boys would go to "Summer" and "Winter destinations to do photoshoots and activities, and I guess they would also incorporate a "holiday" aspect to it. And they had fun, but it was still scheduled so ... you know ...

HOUSE OF ARMY - This was the skit Jackson Octavius Yates was talking about at the beginning, which was part of the 3rd BTS MUSTER. Moving forward you might want to look into what MUSTERS and a BTS FESTAS are. As always I'll give you small definitions: ---------------- - MUSTER: This are a multiple day concert/content event that BTS would set up to thank ARMY for the continuous support. There are a total of 6 Musters. - BTS FESTA: BTS' BIRTHDAY IS; 13 JUNE (2013). Each year usually starting the beginning of June Festa (word for celebration, as I am sure you know) we get different activities and content each day leading to the 13th of June to celebrate BTS' anniversary/birthday. IT'S HELLA FUN. So towards mid-end May ARMY are usually very excited waiting for the next Festa Schedule (we get posters with FESTA SCHEDULES ... kinda like an Advent Calendar ... we know something will happen on a date, but we don't know what exactly).

M sure people must have told you everything but still-BTS always almost planned their albums before hand mainly in triologies. They had 3 albums focusing on school life and dreams etc and its troubles with-2 cool 4 Skool, O!RUL82?(Oh are you late too) and Dark and wild(their first full length studio album).Till then they were kinda a hiphop band but tough look but the company thought they werent getting that much attention as they should so they decided to change their concept from hardcore hiphop to have more genres and sounds and changed their asthetic to soft colourfull. At that time,it was VERY drastic change.If u see their previous title tracks being-No more dream, NO, Danger,they were intense.Then suddenly you have I NEED YOU,with no choreo and such scenes(yeah some ppl cried,rightfully so lol). It was also becoz they thought people didnt relate to their school triology that much.They chose to talk about youth thru MVs and lyrics, something majority could relate. nd bighit decided to make the "BANGTAN UNIVERSE(BU)". It connects MVs,short notes ,books and even games to tell a story.This sorty has nothing to do with their albums or lyrics. Theres 2 parts-(1.) The album, in which they talk about youth and its problems(its a triology again) and lyrics. And (2) Music videos-they have nothing to do with the actual album or lyrics no relation.Theres a diff story where BTS members play some parts(you can watch MVs first,then watch BU videos,there are explanation summaries) They made book notes etc. So the MVs from now on(mostly) will continue to have the story. "I NEED YOU" was the start for them.It was huge in korea and they gained not only fans but attention too. Wings was the breakthru. Blood sweat and tears just exploded globally. Their success is soo deserved. They put a lot of effort into thinking what they wanted to do.Albums were always thought thru.

Yeah, I wouldn’t do the “bts multiverse” when it comes to reactions. In your free time, why not. We can all go down rabbit holes for days. I’ve been a fan for nearly a decade and have been just fine without diving into the bts alternate universe storyline. It just feels too k-pop concept to me. All of these things are fine and pretty interesting to speculate over but… BTS have so much more to offer than this particular project.

I think even the members didn't understand it lol. Personally I wasn't really into the BU and was relieved when it got abandoned lol. Parts of it were cool and focused on central themes of youth and togetherness, and life's difficulties...but then it had so many weird sideplots and was like a series that went on longer than it should have. I'm aware that's a very unpopular opinion lol, but oh well. I am thankful for the content the BU brought, and even more thankful that it can be enjoyed standalone w/out knowing the lore.

I love how they all always have some sort of bits of knowledge that the other Geks don't, and everyone always gets confused when they share it, then the one sharing it gets confused that they're confused LOL. I can tell they are true consumers of their content and am kind of glad that they consume content outside of what's filmed. I love the little check-ins they do about what they've seen on TikTok or instagram. I love it when they share that little inside on what they've been up to on their BTS snoop.

Hey guys! I wanted to come on here and share a bit more about Jimin, because I feel like the guide kind of boxes him into one category (and honestly, it does that with every member, which I don’t love). The biggest misconception I see is that he’s just childish, and that his personality is only cute and playful. He’s actually very smart, I’d put him right after Namjoon. He switched between class president and vice president for around nine years. During military service he also showed top-tier analytical and mathematical skills early in training, which is why he was selected as the “brain” of his artillery team. That role really reflects his problem-solving and calculation abilities. He’s also very mature, so don’t let the playful side fool you. The members often say he’s the one they lean on the most, which makes sense given how affectionate and understanding he is. Another thing reactors always seem to forget: yes, he did contemporary, but before that he trained in other styles like hip-hop and street dance, where he excelled at popping and locking. His dance background is way broader than just modern dance. (Jimin is extremely humble about it, so he never brings it up because he doesn’t think he’s that good at it.) And while Hobi is their main dance teacher and helps everyone, Jimin is basically teacher #2. the assistant who helps a lot during practices and stage production. I never see people mention that in the comments. I just wanted to clear a few things up, because it sometimes feels like the channel has a slightly incomplete picture of him. I get why, the guide frames him that way. but out of all the members, I think he’s the most misunderstood here. Thanks for the reactions! 💜

Make sure to do it in that order since that is the order they came out in. To get the full picture, there are the notes and a webtoon, but you don't have to go that far lol. I forgot to comment on this when you first posted the video (i do on every reactor's video to this ep) I think the editors could've put a little bit more of the "controversies" the boys go through in all of these videos For example, when they finally did get their first win and you guys laughed at whatever V was doing in the back while they received their award. He caused a HUGE backlash against the boys at that time and had to issue an apology! He was mouthing the song "Loser" by Big Bang, which was a massive song at that time. People took it as poor sportsmanship and some said it was even him mocking EXID who lost to them that day. Granted, I love them, but even I could see how it was rubbing some people the wrong way. So that on top of the whole sajaegi rumors, was a rough patch in a time of celebration for them

Objectively untrue. The song has multiple layers of meaning in the lyricism which applies to the BU as well as their real lives (when replacing "girl" in the chorus with "friend" as RM intended.)

Hint for the BU - the song is not about a girl. RM said that the word he wanted to use in the chorus was "friend" but every language he tried it just didn't flow well. So, he changed it to "girl" for the song, but he made sure to tell us what he was really trying to say. The song is not about romance or romantic heartbreak. Side note - Yes the spitting is gross, but it is an unfortunately really common thing in Korea. Nasty. 11:35 He was saying show a lot of love to the not famous, medium groups because the situation they are in is the worst. They are stuck in a limbo, neither small enough to disband and be free nor big enough to have any power in the industry and will be stepped on and abused by everyone. 28:00 There is a thing that started in KPop in 2013 called "Ending Fairy" which is just a camera moment where at the end of a performance there are close ups of members and they each do something like a cute or impressive pose or other memorable action as just a fan engagement moment. BTS made a promise to fans that if they won first place, they would all put on lipstick on stage and perform their encore that way. It was just a kind of funny bet with fans, who are also live voting for the wins, so it's meant as a motivator, as well a celebratory moment and an Ending Fairy. Clearly, they had hopes of winning, despite their doubts and their shock at actually winning, as they still had the lipstick with them. 32:30 Although they were having fun in Maylasia, they were not there just for a vacation. They were working. They were shooting extra photo and video content for ARMY released as a set called "BTS Summer Package, 2015" which is why they are in coordinating outfits a lot and walking in a line of 7 across and things like that. 39:30 About the Almost Break Up It was during 2017-2018 that this crisis happened and it was not because they were down or not doing well, it was because they blew TF up globally during that period. They were overwhelmed and burnt out. They were struggling with managing the enormous scale of their own success. There was no one who could give them advice or guide them on handling fame at that scale, especially as Korean men. There was no one else they could lean on or who understood what they were going through. RM later did an interview with Pharrell Williams (for the Rolling Stone Musicians on Musicians series) and Pharrell said he didn't know how they handled being so open and vulnerable and real at their scale and talking about such raw and real things in their music and how he could never because he doesn't have their courage to live like that at their scale. Ultimately, the guys leaned on each other. They wrote music about their struggle, they openly shared the struggle with each other, and in their sob fest AOTY acceptance speech at the 2018 MAMAs they told ARMY too. That was after the crisis was passing. The award didn't make them stay together, but it was an affirmation they badly needed that validated the choice they had already made to stay together. One of the songs they wrote about this was "Fake Love" because they felt like they were lying to ARMY by pretending they were fine during 2017-2018 and they hated not being open and honest with us about their struggle. But how do you tell the people who made you successful that you are drowning in the success they brought you? It seemed like it would be ungrateful, a betrayal. So they smiled for the cameras and kept it to themselves, until the moment of crisis passed and they were starting to find their footing again. Other songs in the Love Yourself era also came out of their struggle, and the song "Make It Right" from their Map of the Soul era was an apology to ARMY for ever thinking of disbanding and leaving ARMY. Not that we needed an apology, but they needed to say it, for themselves, because it was their truth of how they felt and they were done with hiding.

I personally feel like there is a lot of relevant info missing in Rise of Bangtan (no hate, whoever made it is actually amazing). But the first few episodes don't accurately show the struggles the members went through. It show some, yes. but there was more and more serious ones at that. Even when it shows clips from their early performances and fansigns, I would have loved more zoomed out pics and clips that show that there were maybe 100 at most ppl in attendance and at times even less. Coz it really makes it seem like they had lots of fans in the beginning but it really wasn't the case back then.

i agree with everything you just said! it’s just the little things you feel like new fans miss out on and i know it would make these long videos already longs but you just can’t help to want little changes here and there. Everything just has fan and creators bias. Kinda like the Guide to bts for Haters and Skeptics. It’s great but it has a big fan bias to a lot of what they say about kpop and even somethings about the boys. But i also can’t impose too much because of my own bias so it’s just a struggle lol
