A great, great reaction to a great movie! Good job Larissa!

Sterling LaLoge

You surely picked a great movie to react to! I know, I know, Don't call you Shirley! (Sorry I couldn't resist. LOL) Bird strikes are fairly common in aviation. In fact, most jet engines are engineered to withstand a strike by several birds up to the size of about a chicken. It would damage the engine of course, but it would likely still operate long enough to solve the landing problem. However, this was a flock of Canadian Geese that the plane hit. Birds about 4 times the size of what they designed the engine to withstand. Which as you can no doubt understand, meant that the engines were just utterly demolished. You mentioned it in your reaction, but one of the things that I like most about this movie is that no matter how many times you watch it, each time they flash back to the flight it always makes you tense. That is the genius of this story and film making. BTW, you may not have seen the movie, but right after this happened, the picture of all the passengers standing on the wings became a SUPER famous meme. So that may be where you recognize that scene from and what you were thinking of when you thought you might have seen at least part of the film.
