As a member of the school orchestra, I was taught to listen for those little details. I keep being surprised by how subtle, seemingly insignificant details really enhance a piece. Even little changes in just one part can make a big difference. Music is so cool.

Ooooh, you are very lucky to have been part of an orchestra! It's one of those musical experiences that I haven't gotten to try. To actually BE a part of an orchestra! And extra awesome you were taught to listen closely!

Yes, it's the subtle nuances that set an ok piece apart from a memorable one. Also the touch of the one ( s ) playing that can make or break a moving piece. Music is an expression and how it is expressed matters greatly!

In our chorus, we are taught not to listen just to our individual parts, but to the song as a whole. We learn our part, we perfect it as best we can based on our section, and then we come together. One of the first things we do once we've memorized a piece is close our eyes, and listen to everybody else, and hear how we fit, how our dynamics work, how the chords play out. One of my favorite pieces we've done, Good Night Dear Heart by Dan Forest, is so beautiful and so amazing when it's done right. We didn't get it right until today, when we put down our folders, closed our eyes, and listened all around us. Every song I listen to, I not only appreciate the melody or the harmony, but to every single part. As best I can anyways xD. It makes music so much more amazing to me, having learned this way, that I cannot help but wish I could do it as a career. But, my parents won't let me, and I've already applied for college so it's too late now. I want to be like you one day, Malu, so thank you so much for everything you've done. Sorry for the letter, it's hard for me to condense things sometimes xD

Que bien! ¿Soy yo solo o te noto mas contenta? Como se contagia esa energía, sigue así malu <3

malukah

Absolutely. I agree. :D Thanks for watching, John!

malukah

Thomas! What a great exercise to do, to completely focus on sound! I'm glad you guys got the song to sound right after this approach! :D A no worries if you must go to college for something else. Don't be musically discouraged. You might find a choir to join there, or some sort of music club/band. Surround yourself with music, whatever you study. And keep learning. You never know where you may end up in the future. I had a completely different life mapped out for myself, to be honest. And I ended up somewhere unexpected. Your comment actually made me think that it might be a cool idea to make a video about this... About the pros and cons of studying music in college vs. learning on your own. Hmmm... :D Thanks for watching!

malukah

Hehehe! :D Es que la verdad siento super chido de haberme dado cuenta de algo tan importante... y tan obvio, pero que tenía olvidado. Me siento más despierta... jajaja! :D Saludos Santototiiiiii :D

Heidi

I do notice now that I hear new little things when I listen to music over and over; I don't make music or anything but it's nice to hear the little details :) It also applies to movies too. Also, I've noticed going from bad headphones to good ones helps in hearing the details too :P

VictorAnsem

Thank you for this great advice! And yes, I agree with you about discovering new things about something when you pay closer attention to it, it has happened to me so many times while studying for my exams, discovering little details I always had ignored! Thank you for making us non-patrons see the Judìth behind the Malukah once again <3 from Italy!

malukah

Headphones can really make a difference! Otherwise, there could be lots of noises masking details... like kitchen sounds, or outside cars, etc. :D I was shocked the first time I played games with headphones and not just the TV sound. :D Thanks for watching, Heidi!

Heidi

I use headphones with my TV now so I don't bother my roommates and it sounds 10 times better! I never realized how bad TV speakers were until now.

malukah

Thanks for watching, Ansem!
