Yule’s Tide Inn

Yule’s Tide Inn is a warm, cosy tavern that always seems to appear just when you need it the most. The landlord, Yule, loves being a host. So much so that he somehow manages to run the entire establishment by himself. When staying at his inn, you feel like an honoured guest staying with a lifelong friend.

The only thing Yule loves more than running the Inn is Christmas. Decorations are up all year round, festive music is played by the band, gifts are given and received every evening, and the great Yule Log is ever burning in the centre of the long hall.

So welcoming and joyous is a stay at Yule’s Inn, guests never want to leave. Despite only planning on staying for a night, you suddenly realise days if not weeks have passed and here you are still, handing out presents, singing songs and watching the great Yule Log continue to burn yet somehow never burn out.

Hideouts & Lairs

Yeti Lair

This small mine has been abandoned for several years by the nearby town of maker-elves. They were searching for a deposit or rare minerals for their craft but gave up when it became clear that the dig was a dud.

Mostly forgotten by the remote community, the tunnels have been taken over by a pair of Yeti. Initially they were only stealing the occasional cattle from farms on the town outskirts but it seems recently something has caused them to grow much bolder and more territorial, carrying out raids into the town centre and snatching up elves as well.

The village elders are deeply concerned about the damage to their community, but also the potential impact on the upcoming season. They spend the entire year making gifts for a single event and the Yeti attacks are causing them to fall behind schedule. Their leader is away, finalising plans for the gift-giving ceremony, so they are looking for outside help.

Snowed Inn Exterior Scene

The Snowed Inn was built around a network of natural thermal pools, high up among the Sundered Peaks. Despite its isolated location it has a steady flow of visitors, many of whom are making the arduous pilgrimage to the ruined city of Elaria.

It does also attract a different sort of clientele however, those for whom the isolation is seen as a great boon. Since the lands around Elaria are unclaimed, the Inn technically resides in a region beyond the control of Dorran, Bharzul and the Freeholds. For this reason it is often used as a neutral meeting place, both between representatives of those dominions and other more clandestine groups who work within them. The warm waters encourage a state of dress that makes intentions, and weapons, difficult to hide.

The Snowed Inn is run by Chena Mývatn. Her small stature and quiet nature bely an iron hard spirit. She knows many secrets about the special guests hosted at the inn, but it is her ability to keep and protect those secrets that ensures the continued prosperity of the establishment.

Big Sam - Big Sam may be ironically named, but his physical size does not match his stature around town. One of the first to purchase a pitch and build on the thoroughfare, he makes his money by renting the valuable space to others. Due to confusing deals and obfuscated fees, the occupants of the shops change often, so the building has simply become known as Sam’s Sundries. One never knows from one week to the next what will be on offer, aside from the ever-present moonshine.

Mistress Frieda - The day-to-day management of the hotel is overseen by Mistress Frieda, a mountain of a woman with a fastidious nature and a hatred for dirt and poor hygiene. The rooms at the Lockstar are open to anyone, so long as they are clean, or at least willing to take a bath before stepping foot in any of the well-kept rooms. Many of the Deadeye Saloon's more frequent patrons are permanently banned from the premises for this reason.

The hotel does good business with travellers and passing adventuring types however, and Frieda can seem almost motherly in her demeanour to those who pay up front and keep to her rules. Just make sure to wipe your boots before stepping in.

Jesse Colter - Colters Hardware Emporium is owned and run by two sisters, Jesse and Maybelle Colter. The girls lost their parents early on in life and in order to survive out in the Frontier they joined one of the gangs based out in the hills. Jesse took to it quickly and became an expert marksman, but although Maybelle earned her keep it was clear she never really wanted to be part of the life.

Jesse could see this and, wanting the best for her sister, found them a way out. They broke from the gang, got a loan from a travelling businessman and opened their own store in town. Business went well and their small shop quickly grew into the ‘Colters Hardware Emporium’ – stockers of all fine goods and arms. Jesse runs the Gunsmith and Maybelle the General Store next door. At least that is what Maybelle believes.

Through the Pale

Cruyltide Kris for 5e & PF2E

This short, but incredibly sharp blade is surprisingly festive for something that looks so deadly. Smelling of sickly sweet candy, this blade is composed of a hardened, but brittle white substance wrapped with another layer that is a striking shade of red. It is always slightly sticky to the touch. The crossbar and handguard are adorned with deep green leaves and what appears to be a gnarled form of antler.

Cruyltide Cur for 5e & PF2E

A being of seemingly true neutrality, Cruyltide Curs seek to weigh the measure of those that are unlucky enough tocross their paths. If a Cur believes you have ill intent in your heart, it is impossible to hide from their learned gaze. Many are hesitant to assign intelligence to something so monstrous, but it can't be denied that the beasts do seem to possess an understanding of what makes a being tick. Whether it is emotional intelligence, or something beyond our understanding, Curs care only to protect their lands and seek those that would bring ruin to their tundra.
