Background

Sitting near the peak of one of the Epicoatl mountains, this Monastery was once a little known retreat for a sect of monks who had taken a vow of silence. A couple of years ago it was visited by a younger second cousin of the Dorran family as part of a journey of 'self enlightenment'.

Upon returning to the courts of Dorran, he proceeded to gush to those in his circle about the incredible spiritually restorative effects of the visit and it quickly became a popular destination for the younger members of the elite class of the city, all keen to brag about how they too had made 'the pilgrimage'.

Although initially irritated by these visitors, the leader of the Monastery - Docho Hiramizu - realised that he could charge exorbitant fees to host these pilgrims and they would barely bat an eye. The money was well used helping local communities at the base of the mountain, and the visitors were happy enough to take the vow of silence while at the Monastery as part of the experience, meaning they weren't too much trouble.

The small size of the Monastery also meant that retinues were kept to a minimum, often the visiting nobles would enter with a single retainer or completely alone. A fact that quickly became apparent to some of Dorran's more prominent underworld figures.
