Places of Worship

Mountaintop Shrine

Sitting near the peak of one of the Epicoatl mountains, this Monastery was once a little known retreat for a sect of monks who had taken a vow of silence. A couple of years ago it was visited by a younger second cousin of the Dorran family as part of a journey of 'self enlightenment.' Upon returning to the courts of Dorran, he proceeded to boast about the restorative effects of the visit, and it quickly became a popular destination for the elite class of the city, all keen to brag about how they too had made 'the pilgrimage.'

Although initially irritated by these visitors, the leader of the Monastery - Docho Hiramizu - realised that he could charge exorbitant fees to host these pilgrims and they would barely bat an eye. The money helped local communities at the base of the mountain, and the visitors were content taking the vow of silence, meaning they weren't too much trouble. However, the small size of the Monastery also meant that retinues were kept to a minimum, so the visiting nobles would often enter with a single retainer or completely alone. A fact that quickly became apparent to some of Dorran's more prominent underworld figures...

Places of Worship

Church of Rot

This church once overlooked lush green meadows reflected in a crystal clear lake, but now it is surrounded by rot and decay. The disease is slowly spreading, day-by-day, inch-by-inch. Those who can stomach the foul stench have attempted travel into the rot to find its source, and believe the church to be at the epicentre.

Attempts to investigate further have been met by violent resistance. Whatever currently occupies the church seems to gain strength from the rot, while it weakens all others who approach.

Characters of Worship 02

Xyron, Mouth of the Deep - Cult Leader

The crumbling Ziggurat may have stood for thousands of years before its current inhabitants laid claim to it. Perhaps the group were always zealous fanatics, perhaps the fey-touched presence within the temple influenced their minds. Either way they have dedicated themselves to an un-seeable, un-knowable being that resides beneath, or perhaps within the whirlpool. Its hunger is endless, and its followers relentless in their drive to bring it souls to devour. Xyron is the current mouthpiece of the being, directing its followers. Often to their own demise in the swirling waters.

Hemarch Vaelric Morcant

Hidden deep in the void , this temple clings silently to the rock face. It is unclear how or when it was built, time seems a distant concept in the endless depths of the chasm. Those who tend to it and serve its Gods know only one thing: It. Must. Be. Fed. The Hemarch is the spirital leader of the cult. They have a greater connection to the Gods they serve, but with that connection also comes a hunger of their own.

Professor Heidrun Elmertyr

Heidrun Elmertyr founded the Temple of Knowledge as as place to teach and learn. For him the act of study was a religious act, as if by learning more about the world he was bringing himself closer to the gods who created it. However, after being left as the sole survivor of a brutal raid on the temple his mind was broken. To this day he still resides alone in the temple, hoarding texts and scrolls and reading obsessively. He believes that if he can only gain enough knowledge, the gods will give him the power to return his followers to him.

Unbreather for 5e & PF2E

The grotesque nature of this item is apparent from the first gaze upon it. Dried flesh has been stretched and wrapped to form a mask with glass lenses affixed in the eye sockets and large tubes wrapping from the mouth to a glass apparatus on the skull. A sickly, yellowed liquid bubbles within the glass bulb. A leather collar has been affixed to the neck allowing for this device to fit on a being’s shoulders and form an airtight seal.

Rotborn for 5e & PF2E

Twisted minds work to repurpose the very blood, bone, and body that makes up all manner of creatures across our planes. They cannot be satisfied with what exists now, feeling an inhuman desire to play as gods and create all manner of twisted being for their own purposes. Meddling with life and death is not an exact science and so these detestable beings tear through mountains of flesh and blood in their pursuit over their macabre masterpieces. When so much partially reanimated flesh fuses together in magically inclined places, a Rotborn may form.
