Content

This post is a place for you to leave Battlemap Suggestions. It will be linked at the top of the Notice Board, so any time you have a map idea, please add it to the list. I can't promise I will get around to all of them, but I will keep an eye on it for inspiration. If someone else posts an idea you really want to see, give it a like. That way I will know what the most 'in demand' maps are.

An old, abandoned castle on a hill, built by a long-dead paranoid tyrant, the ruined halls of which are filled with traps and treasures alike.

Foundry Virtual Tabletop

Awesome contest Tom. I would love to have a map of a Drow temple complex in the depths of the Underdark - especially if it could include some standalone props to help mapmakers bring other drow locations to life!

Anonymous

A fort that the players can clear then take it over. Upgrade the rooms so start off with a ruin and have them pay to fix it up and make a room into a barracks, or wizards room.

Anonymous

My players are going to the Floating City of Yjae, so large obelisks and monoliths on a floating island would be an awesome map to have in my pocket.

James Clark

An elven tower inside a massive living tree. An arboreal skyscraper.

Callum Hiscock

The Temple of the Draconic Bane/Dracana Mortis. dedicated to the proper burial and glorification of deceased dragons, this testament to Draconic ancestry boasts a Crematorium with a bound fire elemental within, Dragon-sized Morgue, a Library detailing the grand history of the dragons buried within, a Grand Hall where feasts and celebrations would be held, and deep within the catacombs, the Great Burial Chamber, where the remains of dragons are put to rest.

xirsong .

Cool Idea ! I would love to see a kind of dungeon which start from a butcher shop from a big city (with the front shop, the meat reserve and the a small hidden dungeon which can be a location for a cult / dark organization etc.

Sailor Business

Lots of neat ideas here (butcher shop, trap castle and tree skyscraper are my faves but all of them are really good). I've been really looking for a BIG gothic-ish, steampunk-ish airship with lots of metal bits (specifically for use in the Avernus campaign).

Hola!

Sarah C

I'm running a Wuxia themed campaign but can't find any maps of Asian ruins. So perhaps a run down Chinese or Japanese mansion complete with ruined furniture assets: broken chairs, destroyed Chinese rugs, broken Chinese vases and statues. The assets could then be used make Asian maps that aren't just pristine towns, such as raided villages, tombs, ancient ruins, war torn palaces etc.

Craig Shackleton

I would love to have a map of dry ravine with trestle bridge with railroad track crossing it. I know it's not exactly standard fantasy fare, but it could work for a lot of settings.

FGA (Fantasy Grounds Academy)

One thing that is overlooked and may not be as glamorous, is to have and offer maps that are rather much more 'open', and that have environmental variations for said maps. A few rocks, a few fallen logs, some light game trails or an old overgrown road. Perehaps some ruins on the very edges of said 'open maps'?

Evan Clarke

I would love a crashed illithid ship that has been turned into a mind-flayer lair with spawning pools etc

Mark Fernandez

A gigantic magical lighthouse with stone titans holding up the light source a giant glowing crystal sending a beacon to guide the mercantile fleets of the capital safely into the port.

oceanicsurvivor

An elegent winery and villa with an extensive and maze like wine cellar, with hidden rooms dotted throughout, which reveal the truth about the people who run it...they're vampires.

Thoth Process

A noble estate in the Feywild, where a Lord and Lady of Sidhe nobility hold court.

Chris Skuller

My idea is simple. All I want is a good battlemap I can use for the streets of Planescape's Sigil.

Anonymous

The ancient ruins of a castle long since reclaimed by nature. Its decrepit halls echo with history long lost, and behind it's walls and deep underground lurks forgotten secrets perhaps best left unknown.

Anonymous

A military fort (not a castle) complete with all the supporting components like mews, smithy, mess hall, barracks, etc. for those defending this fort on the frontier.

David Hayward

How about a sunken mausoleum in a swamp graveyard?

Anonymous

The ancient water processing facility of a ruined underground city, which has since been corrupted and overrun with oozes.

Anonymous

A wizard's castle that has mechanical legs à la Howl's Moving Castle, but less of a mess. The wizard lives in the tallest tower of it.

Erlend Aakre

An orc village/outpost on a hill/mountain. Several smaller leather tents and a larger one at the centre for the leader Wooden palisades.

Anonymous

The Dirges: Narrow streets and filthy tenements dominate these city slums. Littered with unlicensed shops and bars, the tight alleys provide ample escape routes for the petty criminals that live (and ply their trade) within their squalid confines.

Anonymous

A map similar to the topography of the Wulingyuan national park. Huge spires of stone reaching to the sky. Each spire creating an island with flimsy rope bridges connecting them.

Anonymous

A Forest based elven town center, with flowing and elegant architecture that seamlessly merges with the natural plants in the area. Multi leveled treehouses and vine or branch weaved ladders connecting the community above ground level.

Sam Stockdale

Quite a simple (I would imagine) idea for me: a coaching inn. I love Warhammer Fantasy Role-Play and can never seem to find a coaching inn; fortified against the perils outside; perhaps a cellar where unspeakable rituals to the Ruinous Powers might be held by the Enemy Within.

Anonymous

An(other) ancient dwarven ruin but this one with steam punkish elements similar to Dweomer ruins from the Elder Scrolls series (but obviously with your own flair and style)

Kishpa

Some holding, buildinf, fort, home, etc. of giant kin. Basically a map that let's my party act like plastic army men.

Anonymous

A transition area around a city gate, like from Outer City to city proper at Baldur's Gate, where livestock unloads and trade abounds.

MykeMyke

A substantial rural lead up to a cave system entrance - the varied approach with room for tactical movement is different than most. The small amount of cave system on the maps should have a level change within - thus allowing it to be either a little bandit hideout or an epic set-piece lair entrance :-)

Jon-Eric L. Swigart

Man, I would love to see some sci-fi stuff from you. Something like mid-sized town with a 2 or 3 port spaceport would be dope.

Anonymous

A rooftop battlemap for a sprawling castle with soaring spires and towers (could look at Kredik Shaw of Mistborn for inspiration).

chase_dagger

A wizard's tower, that is actually a steampunk style rocket ship.

Anonymous

Imagine a world of giants where the average character is tiny, about the size of an action figure... People are pulled from many other worlds and find themselves very small compared to the world around them (a dog would be the equivalent of an elephant or a dragon). Stuck here, the people have build cities inside giant trees like a tower city, or inside the walls around a giant's castle... those city maps would be cool.

Charles

The Temple of Thassa, God of the Sea. From the most recent wizards of the coast sourcebook 'Theros'.

Anonymous

Thanks for all the wonderful maps Tom - I'd love to see your take on a steampunk version of a wizard's tower - the weird but wonderful mix of magic and gears gets less love than it should.

Mephiliso

A collapsed bridge attached to a small courtyard ^-^

nilo_core

A bit off topic but something sci-fi would be wonderful.

Anonymous

A simple re-do of all of the crappy B&W maps in WotC's Dragon Heist, in your usual excellent style. Bonus: Once you're done you can sell it on Roll20 and it will be a surefire hit.

Greg

Hmm, some Ptolus maps for areas that are open to the imagination (and hard to map for those strapped for time and low on creativity).

Anonymous

A giant woodelf tree, with nested homes, portal rooms

Jamie Finch

A school like Hogwarts - but set in the modern day! Like the X-Mansion or a Spy School.

Patrik Carlsson

A detailed city! where your adventures friends can delve into - find secrets, resolve mysteries and so on.

Papa Steel

On the back of an enormous flying black dragon. I've been searching for this FOREVER and no doubt others as well, and you'd do it justice!

Sophie Campbell

The lair of a serpent cult in the middle of the desert.

Anonymous

I am falling in love with your city maps at the moment as I am running a D&D Sharn campaign (eberron). So I feel like seeing some skytowers and bridges to use in conjunction with your other epic city maps would be incredible. :)

MrPaz

An interior chamber of a keep housing a portal and covered in eldritch tentacles and mouths

Anonymous

A Pizza Parlor that used to be a prohibition era Speakeasy with secret room(s)

JP80

I would really like a Map of an old Tumulus with a pict or celtic touch.

Giannis Laliotis

A dystopian sci-fi city block. If a sci-fi map is too difficult to do, then a dusty town ala American wild west.

Anonymous

A city Botanical Gardens with an ominous secret?

Tod Levi

A skyway of Tensor's disks connects towers of knowledge in a cliffside city.

yoodies

Someone already claimed the spaceship in fantasy world, So I'd love to see an Airship Docking Tower Map in a fantasy city. Maybe with some ground level variations (middle of square, on coast, floating island, undead ruins) so it could be used in many places in a campaign.

Ataraxxi

Your maps are amazing and honestly they've been such a huge boon to my games. I'd end up requesting a map pretty specific to my own campaign needs- a huge cistern beneath the city where a dragon has been imprisoned in a huge, enchanted block of ice for hundreds of years.

Ruunis

A map of ancient city ruins covered in volcanic ash (think Pompeii) with a lava stream instead of a river. (Specific use: Shilku from Tomb of Annihilation.)

Megan Coppock

I need a mixing pot city with a variety of different cultures all mashed together and a river running through it for my Sig game coming up!

Connor Merritt

I just started a pirate campaign and I’d really love a boat map that the players can call a second home that’s not too large

Jimmy Jeans

Hey Tom! My campaign has an underground lab that was designed for cloning and human modification (Simic Hybrid stuff). Little did the scientists know, it was formerly built and used by mind flayers.

FinalFrog

Really enjoyed the recent Japanese themed maps, so how about a Japanese lily pad garden. I used to love visiting the one at the Huntington Library.

John Pierce

Pirate or Air ship maps, Thieves Den under a city in the sewer system, one exit is to the sea for smuggling....

Anonymous

I would like a tree with the entrance to a nest/cave of some sort of small animals

Elvolganta

A smugglers den with a business front, storage- & living areas and a secret passage away from the area.

Sean Hurley

Would it be okay to ask for a sort of arcane/steampunkish factory basically willy wonka but evil please

Midgardia

A primordial forge where heroic weapons were forged in times past, now cold and abandoned.

Chris Skuller

The streets of Sigil from Planescape.

Anonymous

A ruined fort that could go from the site of an encounter to a player home, maybe with varying stages of damage to show the repairs being done.

Anonymous

A guild hall with everything needed for a westmarch game...

Anonymous

I would like to see a map of a research library which is part of an academic institution. Features to consider include a librarian's station, desks for researchers to use, books chained to the shelves, a catalog, a few comfortable chairs for readers in addition to the desks, plenty of lights, some carpets to help muffle sounds, shadowed areas leading to secret doors or trap doors which have been used to hide persecuted citizens in the past.

Anonymous

A three stories colyseum. First two stories being gladiator, animal and slave quarters. The third one being the combat arena and bleachers.

Kevin

I'd love to see a more detailed and thorough trade shop, particularly smithy, tanner, woodshop. A lot of maps have small workstations with a couple small assets, but a larger trade-hall would be amazing.

Jase

A fortified githyanki estate in the city of Tu'Narath

Lawrence Allen Edger

Taking inspiration from WOW... The Underrot, an ancient temple that has sunken into a large cavernous system beneath an ancient forest....dark roots hang from the cavern's ceiling, luminescent moss lights the caverns...a blight is taking over....and an ancient green dragon guards the sunken ancient temple....

Lee

I would like a iido castle sized map with interiors.

Anonymous

More snow!! Let’s get Imperial Siberia!

Anonymous

I'd like to see something akin to a gothic horror castle/manor if possible. If not that, some kind of Arabian palace would also be really interesting.

Stu

A gothic, New Orleansesque graveyard, complete with mausoleums, rose gardens and even hedgemazes.

Anonymous

Underground caverns below a small manor. The caverns for some reason are covered in frost and ice.

Anonymous

Hope I am not too late 😊 I am a big fan of your Dresden’s Tower map. We had a really nice adventure in it and I would like to repeat this. So, my Idea would be a wood elven like Tower (probably a big tree) with lots of different rooms so you can play it like some kind of dungeon. Exactly as I did with my friends for Dresden’s Tower.

Anonymous

A series of caverns and tunnels in the underdark done from a side view to allow for a lot of vertical movement.

Anonymous

I woud like a classicism castle, like versailles, crossed by a river.

Eric

A floating mess of ruined ships all locked together adrift at sea. Like a floating ship graveyard

Anonymous

I’d love to see a map of the front gates of a city with terrain both inside and outside the walls so it could be used for a siege type session.

Andrew Wavell

An Elizabethan/Jacobean theatre, perhaps based on The Globe (outside theatre) or Blackfriars (interior theatre).

Jens

I would like a cenote map: An overgrown sinkhole lake in the midth of the jungle.

Kevin

SO PUMPED for Midgardia

Reid Bathgate

Stuff floating in space/the astral sea. Asteroids, ruined ships, parts of dead gods, that sort of thing. Not nearly enough spelljamming content out there.

Anonymous

A long and narrow river chasm map with some rough terrain and rough crossing points between sides would be pretty cool.

Patrick F Marinelli

Id love to see a mind flayer lair filled with pools, and caves and something for an elder brain.

daniel womble

Would love to see some racial specific maps. like elvin treetop village, or dwarven mines, fortress.

daniel womble

also, a swamp village would be sweet.

Foundry Virtual Tabletop

Underground civilizations - dwarven vaults, drow cities, mind flayer hives, beholder warrens

nilo_core

More Greek stuff! Agora, theater, port... Or some liar of epic creature like medusa ecc.

Xandria

Ice caves with deep caverns and with both frozen and running water in some areas.

Gerard SERRE

Plus de Grecs avec des galères pour faire des combats naval et toute la Saga de Jason et des Argonautes

Anonymous

Cherry blossom grove!

Mr Crowley

An abandoned mine complex would be an useful map.

Anonymous

With the recent release of the Theros book for 5e, I would love to see a Greek Trireme map.

Sylvie Seeker

I'd love to see a steampunkish dungeon or ruin. Like the dwemer dungeons of skyrim

Austin W

Sith Ruins. Jedi Monastery. Jungle Floating Rock Rope Bridge Village.

Anonymous

Djinn palace on a cloud

GloriousGe0rge

A wizards sanctum filled with liquid vats of all his clones. Bonus points if the vats can be replaced with ones that are busted open.

Anonymous

Adventurers guild hall/outside training area.

Mike

Anything for the Strahd campaign would be fantastic

Clayton

Love to see some Ravnica city maps.

Jimmy Jeans

Tom!! Haha hey guys I just scrolled through the list and I didn't see any mention of a Warforged Colossus ;). I think it would be badass to have either a massive map of the interior of an operational one or one that is in pieces in a battlefield.

Shane Williams

I'd love to see an underwater citadel map :)

Sophie Campbell

Desert/wasteland contaminated with magic chemicals, the interior (or top) of a dark obelisk in the wasteland, and some tall rock spires that have ledges and rope bridges criss-crossing around them. I saw someone suggest underwater ruins, that would be great too.

Michael Pomare

The lush, reedy bank of a long river that winds its way through a desert, a thin strip of green tended by reed harvesters and farmers occasionally menaced by crocodiles, hippos and more exotic beasts from the waters. Bandits have been preying on the peasants lately, carrying off crops needed to pay the yearly tax, so the small village has banded together to pay some adventurers from foreign lands to deal with them. Or, I guess, street maps with a hellenic or egyptian flavour. There's so many european maps out there, but for Fantasy!Greece or Fantasy!Egypt you have to really go looking.

Anonymous

Challenge: The locations between points of interest and events in official adventures, for groups who play through every cell of travel.

Brent Greenhalgh

How about a flooded pirate cave that requires a boat or swimming to enter. There could be a dry section within for them to store their ill gotten loot.

Brent Greenhalgh

Another idea is a ship that has been trapped in a glacier (maybe a viking ship or lost adventurers ship) with a crevice or melt hole allowing access to its wonders and dangers. Maybe it was encapsulated in ice by a mighty white dragon or powerful druid.

Danasaur

Houses and mansions! Just plain townhouses and noble persons homes.

Anonymous

Ship battle, Ship close to a huge whirlpool, Ship close to an island, ruin ship underwater, underwater caves, underwater volcano and rift. (yes I love water and pirates)

Anonymous

An island with some huts, maybe like one of those castaway treehouse things. Underwater maps are very hard to find, probably due to the lack of walls. So like a sunken ship, underwater cavern or flooded dwarven city, or merfolk castle. Fantasy casino or bank for a heist.

Craig Hicks

I can never get enough city locations; here are some ideas: . I’d like to see a section of high street shops that are built together in a row, as if they are in a very dense part of a city. Also a busy stable, with lots of stalls and an adjacent farrier and harness maker. A mid-sized guild hall. A faction safehouse. A cemetery with a chapel, mausoleums, and caretaker’s residence.

Anonymous

I would love to see some maps that showcase the aftermath of a raid. Destroyed villages, towns, or other locations that may have been burned to ground. Scene setters for "The bad guys have been here. If we don't stop them, this will happen again." Maybe a burned farm?

Anonymous

Somme contemporary building could be usefull.

Anonymous

A selfish idea because I have it planned for my campaign, but a map for a large tree with interior. It would be multiple stories like a tower, with a large first floor at the base of the trunk for a boss arena - I was planning on a large insect queen that has taken up residence inside.

necxelos

1) Cyberpunk Cities with all the neaon lighting and dark atmosphere and at the same time realistic representation of actual buildings and streets. 2) Gothic Castles meant for vampires from different settings: Warhammer von Carsteins, Dracula, D&D Barovia (Ravenloft), Vampire: Dark Ages, etc. 3) Haunted Locations with half the environment being physical and the rest ethereal. Might even be fractured so let's say furniture is destroyed and moldy but ethereal vision on top of them fills the holes to present how it looked before.

Anonymous

Further to Necxelos' comment above, I second Barovia/Ravenloft (Curse of Strahd). I'd be thrilled with maps that would work well with some of the published DnD content. Certainly much of what you have can be repurposed (I've done this with some of your content for Curse of Strahd and Baldur's Gate, for example). I've had to make some of the maps a bit creepier stylistically to suit Strahd. Anything along those lines would be fantastic. That said, everything everyone has listed above sounds great too.

Stephen Tierney
>>40912844

How about some Flying Airships too ! Maybe even a crashed airship on the side or peak of a mountain!

orcnog

I would love to see you venture into SPACE! Something specifically Star Wars themed. An Imperial prison, a Rebel base, some canon planet like Hoth or Tatooine... I would LOVE to run another Star Wars adventure but there aren't a ton of VTT-friendly maps out there that are actually true to the lore. I know you would do the theme justice though :)

Francois Labrecque

I would love some support for science-fantasy, such as Numenera.

Kakeman89

Definitely sci-fi/space. I mainly run SW5E so that would be cool. But then again i have used everything you have put out because its versatile.

Anonymous

A large guild hall map done in like a town square where you can have shops and blacksmiths rune forge and enchanters like a mass hub for guilds to get job have important meetings like for monster attacks and get all the supplies they would need and places for them to rest before they go out on the next job make connections with other guilds to go on hunts or raids with.

R

I'd really love to see a train station, perhaps with rails and alternatively with Lightning Stones from Eberron.

Eric Ishii Eckhardt

I also would love train maps and train station maps. Anything around Eberron would be fun, but my campaign centers on Lighting Rail, so train-related is best. Keep up the great work!

Anonymous

i would love middle east city, like Kara tur of the forgotten realms, or some city like Alexandria, Damieta, constantinople and that kind of stuff. PD: I love yout job <3

Mark Fernandez

Body of a dead god floating in the ether

Jimmy Jeans

I would like to see a series of large houses/manors/castles. It doesn't need to follow a particular theme, but I am certainly aching for a Tom-style large European castle of some sort. Cheers and thank goodness you aren't stranded anymore!

Anonymous

abyssal landscape

Xandria

Some may shoot me but... Big City themed University. The Archivists Sanctum is great, but a University would dovetail into that so nicely. Universities also have creepy basements for experiments that students get up to behind the professors' backs! ;-)

Xandria

Hidden underground enclave in forest for Drow, under dark creatures, and those who wish to avoid being seen but still live within forested area.

Anonymous

i have a battle coming up with a sect of blood-cultists that meet secretly beneath a large city in my campaign, where they have trapped an elder vampire that has been suspended in an iron maiden (covered in runes and enchanted to keep it trapped) in the center of their ritual chamber where they bleed collect and drink the blood. i'm going to attempt to hodge-podge something together.... but i felt like it wouldn't hurt to ask

Brian Guerrero

Hi Tom. I really enjoyed how your Japanese sets and Medieval city sets all combined to form a larger setting. What about a more "Imperial" setting? I'm kinda' thinking Roman-ish with wide avenues, lots of open courtyards and buildings with big stairways out front, lots of marble and statues, etc. Not necessarily Roman like a knock-off, but in grandeur. We see a lot of Medieval squalor in PRG maps but not a lot of imperial capital awe. Those might then be fun maps to do as ruins, either for someone more interested in after-the-fall adventures, or even some kind of time travel back to when it was grand. Anyway, just a thought. Thanks!

Anonymous

I’d like to see an abyssal circus tent with summoning circles and whatnot.

Anonymous

A big palace for a big royal prom.

FØX

Hi Tom. I really love your work so far, it's incredible ! Can't wait for the end of this pandemic to put it to good use with my players! About suggestions, have you considered a treehouse village that could be occupied by either elves or by humanized animals (such as in the Humblewood campaign or the Redwall novels)? If following the animal path, the forest village could be completed with some den-like houses and such, for ground-folk. Just my two cents :) Cheers!

Mike

Love to see some more Strahd based maps, a decent Vallaki set would be fantastic!!

tomcartos
>>50128860

Thanks for the suggestion Mike, I might be able to tie in something like this in the future. In the mean time, both Venatus Maps and The Mad Cartographer have a great collection of Strahd maps.

Anonymous

I am running a campaign in Eberron. Maps for unique areas like Sharn or the Mournlands. Assets like elemental airships, trains, and other Eberron-y things.

Anonymous

Hi Tom, I am new to your patreon (awesome work BTW). I am trying to go through all the stuff but don't see very many "Dungeons". Am I looking in the worng places or are there just not many on your site? If that's the case I'd love to suggest some more dungeons and different levels of dungeons. Thanks!

tomcartos
>>52821427

Hi Paulo, Recently I have been working on my 'Bic City' theme that was chosen by patrons, so there are lots of city themed maps. I will be starting the Frontier theme this month which will have some more 'dungeon' style maps. You can also vote for the Dungeons theme in my next Into the Wilds poll. In the mean time, see if any of these work for you: https://www.patreon.com/posts/apothecarys-hi-28714105 https://www.patreon.com/posts/city-sewers-hi-31258421 https://www.patreon.com/posts/39902288 https://www.patreon.com/posts/35893898 https://www.patreon.com/posts/cultists-temple-30749639 https://www.patreon.com/posts/40275798 https://www.patreon.com/posts/41558809 https://www.patreon.com/posts/41672697 https://www.patreon.com/posts/44545155

Need some sci fi assets ;>

Kurt Doose

A forest themed Tavern or Inn for fey folk, forest creatures and the like. I’d envision it in a massive hollowed out tree stump. Mushrooms for tables, glowing plants for lights, etc. (A druid or fey themed tavern essentially)

James Hargreaves

Hi Tom, various castle multi level maps would be great as I feel there aren't many out there. It would be good to have a selection to use in my world which would give each major city/town with a castle/keep a different feel

Anonymous

Hi Tom, would you happen to have a map of the sewers under Ostenwold?

tomcartos
>>55054879

Hi Marcos, I just started the 'Frontier' theme which will include some maps like this

Jimmy Jeans

Hey Tom! For the next theme, could we do ships? They don't need to be anything massive obviously, but maps of viking-style long ships, korean turtle ships, or even a submarine would do wonders to fill out your "high seas" category. Also, congrats on the upcoming baby! No one will blame you if you need a genuine break because it is quite a handful lol.

tomcartos
>>55347074

Hi Jimmy, thanks so much! The 'High Seas' option will be in the next theme poll again, and will include lots of ships. It narrowly lost out the last couple of times, so maybe third time is a charm!

Kel

Next time High Seas ends up winning out it'd be neat if you could throw some wrecked ships into the mix. Whole ships are great, but sometimes ships break (oooops!) and it's nice to have maps for that too!

Anonymous

I would like to see an underwater temple/ruins similar to the Atlantis or the Zora from The Legend of Zelda. It could even have dry/flooded variant with seaweed and corals inside. I love your work and I think this would be incredible

Anonymous

Hello Sir Tom! So I could totally use your help! I am in need of a halfling village, with tree burrow houses and hillside burrows. Any help would be amazo!!

Nightgaun7

Make more Japanese/East Asian themed maps like Iido! Struggling to find stuff that fits that theme.

Leon Embers
>>59401352

Seconded! My campaign will head towards an Eastern-style city with a thriving underworld, I'd love to see a kind of seedy Japanese market!

Leon Embers

I'd love to see more Japanese-style maps!

Anonymous

Tom, a couple of suggestions. Firstly, creating maps that thematically align with the release of WOTC 5e large campaigns makes a lot of sense as they are always short on battle maps of the environments. I am not talking about redoing module maps, but adding in some battle maps that compliment the module. Second, I've noticed your maps (IMO) have an odd scaling. If used at the grid suggested many locations are overly small and tight. Knight at the museum is a good example where I had to grid it out as each of your squares is a 10' square. You have the guild map where a double bed in a room is just fitting a 5' square or tiny chairs that while if you measure them may be accurate but don't take into account most medium sized tokens are 5' even though we as humans don't take up a 5' space. I would like to see the maps take into account medium tokens (5') as the norm in terms of scaling the maps for use.

tomcartos
>>63886115

Hi Edward, Thanks for your message. I generally don't tie in my maps with WoTC releases, partly because not everyone plays D&D, and many of those who do don't use the setting source books, partly because I generally have to plan my releases months in advance, and partly because I don't have time to read all the books :) There are however a number of other creators who do who you could look into supporting. I prefer to build out thematic settings that can be fit into a wider variety of campaigns. I also made the decision to size my maps to 'real world' scale rather than 'hero scale' as it allows me to add much more detail. If I made all of my chairs 5ft wide, rooms would either be very empty, or absurdly large. Again, there are other creators who do use hero scale for their assets. This is just my style. However I make my VTT maps at 140DPI so they can be scaled up to 200% without loss of quality of most VTT platforms, allowing you to use them at hero scale if you prefer.

Jimmy Jeans

Hey Tom! I hope all is going well. If I may be so bold, could I make a suggestion (more like begging lol) on having a Into the Wilds theme on boats? Nothing crazy but ones like long ships, canoes, river barges, etc. On a related note, could we have another multi-layered ship too? I simply can't find an artist that did ships as well as you and it hurts my soul lol. Thankfully my players aren't on here, but I am dying for a Witcher-style Naglfar ship because they are going against the not-Wild Hunt later on haha. Peace, Tom, and I look forward to more of your brilliant work!

Anonymous

Hello Tom, I just had an idea and thought might aswell suggest it. I just handed my players a Bag of Holding/Pocket Universe kind of thing. So the interior of said Bag would be a cool Map i think :) Not only for me but for all GMs that give away too many magic items :D

Erica Lea

I love the Dwarven stronghold. However, I would love a Dwarven stronghold map that is not abandoned. Strangely enough, every dwarven city map set I've ever found is a ruin or abandoned.. LOL. I need a map that is live - my group is going there soon.

Erica Lea

This is oddly specific and probably will never happen because I'm sure that no one has asked for this ever, but I would really love to see a map that is air ducts where the group could look down into various rooms. That would be a really cool map for stealth (and I need it, but this type of map does not exist.. LOL)

There is a 'clean' unfurnished version of that map, and all the assets for it are available if you wanted to set up a 'lived in' version.

What's your thoughts on an open battlefeild. Could mess around with clean, barricades, trenches, bombardment damage, even a post battle sense. Be nice to go with some of your forts or keeps even on a coast line. "The party arrives during a lull in the fighting or a day late to witness the carnage they could have stopped."

I suggest a setting/series around a floating city composed of multiple floating "islands" linked by bridges (above and... sometime under ground-level) and usually reached by flying ships/flying beasts or relevant magical means. City is run by a council of different factions, its cloud reached twin towers of a palace is located on the larger block of floating land on the flank of the tallest hill of a chain. At the center of the city, at ground level, is a perfect diamond-shaped power core of magical like properties. Floating in the air like the city, it is almost touched, as if contained, by 4 large horizontal rods plunging into the earth of the land and such rods seem to criss-cross the land to link every floating land blocks. This core is what seems to maintain the city aloof, granting it mobility when specific rituals are performed (whenever the factions reach a consensus) and probably does help with the never-ending water flow that is also a wonder in is own right given that all the water steams goes into the main river and the great cascade directly opposite to the palace. The cascade is going straight down the cliff though never a drop of water seems to reach the ground under the city. Something like that...since Dragonlance I always wondered what it could look like if the darn floating thing was more than a castle.

I'd love a Forge VTT version of "The Carnelian Hotel" - ideally with a casino asset so I can swap the dining tables out for gaming tables.

Hi Chris, the focus of this Patreon will generally be Historical/Fantasy maps, but I hope to expand in the future.

Hi Tom, I'd really appreciate more western themed content for my deadlands campaign. Nothing else I've seen so far comes even close to your maps (Driftwood setup in foundry with Levels is just spectacular.) but there just aren't enough of them!

Tom! I'm a huge fan of the dark/grim-dark fantasy settings, like Velen in the Witcher, and I think they fit really well with most fantasy settings. Any chance we could see more maps that have the grim, druid-like fantasy vibe we see there? Thanks for all your hard work!
