Background
Almost everyone agrees that the Elazar Household at the top of the hill is a creepy place at best. Children dare one another to get close enough to touch the heavy iron knocker on the front door before running away squealing, and even the bravest of the townsfolk only walk past if absolutely necessary. The current occupant is Emmanuel Elazar, a pale, gaunt man whose thin features and long sleek hair make him appear much younger than his 50+ years. He very rarely leaves the house, but it somehow always seems empty anyway.
Emmanuel is in fact a vampire, from a long line of vampires, but he is the first who has not fully embraced the blood curse. The house has been in his family for generations, but seldom used in recent years so Emmanuel returned here in the hope that he could find a way to remove his vampirism without his family knowing about it. It is important to note that Emmanuel does not wish to remove the curse out of any particular sentimentality or ‘goodness’, but rather he finds its downsides to outweigh the boons it bestows. In particular he finds the taste of blood utterly repulsive and longs for real food.
After many decades of searching, Emmanuel believes he has found a way to remove his affliction, but it requires the ritual sacrifice of a pair of identical male pre-pubescent twins. Luckily for him, just such a pair lives in the town a few streets over. They have been missing now for over a week as Emmanuel prepares the rites. Despite being a well-practiced spell caster, there is a lot to do, and his thralls are only really capable of manual tasks.
Unluckily for Emmanuel, the townsfolk have hired a group of travelling adventurers to find the boys, and they have a pretty good idea where they should start looking. Should they make their way through the largely abandoned house and into the lair below, will they ultimately decide to save the boys, or will the deem it a greater victory for the town if the resident vampire removes his dark powers and leaves for good?

Design Notes
House of Elazar 01 Lair
- 01 – Stairs up to 04
- 02 – Thrall’s Chambers – Old wooden coffins are crammed into the small rooms. These are the resting place of Elazar’s thralls.
- 03 – Ritual Chamber – Streams of blood flow from sacrificed victims to the pool at the centre of the room from elevated plinths on each side. Elazar’s coffin rests on the far plinth flanked by Gargoyles. Two swords, heirlooms of his house, are displayed. Floating crimson orbs provide the only light. This is where the ritual is being performed.
House of Elazar 02 Chapel
- 04 – Stairs down to 01
- 05 – Corridor – A large fountain of blood is built into the wall at one end. Alcoves along each side contain carvings of grotesque demonic creatures that look like they are in great pain.
- 06 – Chapel – Music plays eerily from the organ at one end. Rows of red marble benches face a raised dais upon which sits a large wooden alter. Behind the alter is a statue of a fallen angel.
- 07 – Ladder up to 15
- 08 – Cells – When the house was occupied by a greater number of vampires, human cattle was stored here for a consistent supply of blood and occasional sacrifice in the chapel.
- 09 – Torture Chamber – An ornate throne next to two small tables supporting large golden goblets are arranged in front of a spiked iron cage suspended above deep pits. Possibly a twisted form of entertainment?
- 10 – Ladder up to 21
House of Elazar 03 Ground Floor
- 11 – Lobby – Two carved hell hounds flank the entrance. Staircases go up to 23
- 12 – Toilet
- 13 – Cloakroom
- 14 – Secret Chamber – This hidden passage allows a person to secretly watch the goings on in many of the other rooms through eyeholes concealed in the paintings on the walls.
- 15 – Trapdoor down to 07
- 16 – Sitting Room – Clean and tidy, but barely used.
- 17 – Dining Room – Like most of the ground floor rooms. Tidy, but unused.
- 18 – Picture Gallery – Portraits and busts of previous members of the Elazar family line the room. A statue of a woman with wings was supposedly the first vampiric member of the Elazar house. The room us unused and untouched, dust covers the floor and cobwebs cover everything else.
- 19 – Kitchen – Clearly unused. Very little equipment and no food.
- 20 – Pantry – Fresh racks of a suspicious looking meat are on the shelves and in a cabinet that seems to be kept icy cold with magic. The blood on the floor seems to be very fresh. Secret panel behind the shelves leads to 21
- 21 – Trapdoor down to 10. Ladder up to 26
- 22 – Conservatory – Unused. Full of dead plants.
House of Elazar 04 Upper Floor
- 23 – Landing – Stairs down to 11. Two ancient suits of armour flank the top of the stairs.
- 24 – Balcony
- 25 – Guest Bedroom – Seems tidy but unused. The large gold mirror looks out of place.
- 26 – Master Bedroom – Seems to be used occasionally, but the bed has not been slept in. A violin looks like it played often. There seem to be a lot of mirrors for some reason. Trapdoor down to 21 is hidden beneath a pile of suitcases and boxes.
- 27 – Childrens Bedroom – The door is locked. It seems this is where the twins were being kept, but they are no longer here. Drawings in red ink (?) in a childish hand seem to depict a scary man, dead bodies and lots of blood.
- 28 – Toy Room – Seemingly innocent, but you would swear the toys change position when you look away.
- 29 – Library – Shelves are lined with books and alchemical equipment filled with a strange sticky red substance. Five large mirrors take up the centre of the room around an ornate rug. Two seem to have been broken, and it looks like a sixth mirror has been removed.
- 30 – Study – Writings on the desk and more alchemical equipment suggest someone has been testing their own blood. A table in the corner has a small glowing red orb with swirling clouds visible inside.
