I have decided to actually make a poll to ask for sub or dub on FMAB in the end. I had a couple of my friends who have very similar taste as I do tell me that they’ve watched both sub and dub, they liked both but preferred dub because it was easier and apparently it’s one of the best dubs made in anime history. So I sit on my toilet seat and ask you guys what you would like?

One of few, if not the only anime, which I actually recommend watching in dub.

I have not watch either so will not be voting, but question for those that have: is the dub better than Yu Yu Hakusho's?

I can't ever recommend the dub for any anime because even if it's good it's still beneath the original audio. A dub usually wasn't made when the show was being animated, it's an adaptation. It can never portray the emotion and the tone the Japanese voice actors know goes with the things that are being said. Jokes, sarcasm, annoyance, sadness, it's never portrayed the same and of course the mouth moving more or less than what is being said is quite annoying. I also mention this because you Neel are one of the few people who actually notice and care about how a voice actor is portraying emotion. You always mention like "damn did you hear the voice" "oh wow that crack and emotion in the voice". A dub never does the same. I see dubs only as an option for if there are no subtitles available.

I do believe it for live action but I think animation is different because it’s not them voicing over someone speaking their original language but rather them voicing over pre drawn cartoon frames. In Anime and cartoon it is very possible to have a GREAT dub assuming they put the effort in.

It’s also one of the only shows where I looked up random reactions of mostly all channels that have done this show to check and 95% of them have done English dub. So I’m assuming it’s really good just off of that too. As specially because those channels usually watch everything in sub but choose dub for this show specifically.

Dubbed would make for a easier watch/binge, but there are amazing VAs in both versions! For example, one of the lead characters is voiced by Vic Mignogna (Nagato, Obito, Broly), so I can the argument for both sides.

Actually not really, voice acting is mostly done before the animation that way the animation can be matched to what the people are saying. Some don't do that but it's not done until it's finished it's done in conjunction so everything matches and works perfect. But you said it, if they put the effort in and even if they put some effort it's never enough to match the original. For example the voice of the main character roster in FMAB is great, amazing even, I'm not going to say which character but there's HxH Leorio's voice actor, imagine his outbursts and his voice, his screams now replaced by someone who wasn't there when the anime was being made. I've tried to watch dub so many times for other animes but then I watch 1 episode in Japanese and it just makes more sense and everything feels "right".

This comment is the definition of "stuck in his ways" There will always be dubs that at least portray the emotions equal to if not better that the sub to English speakers. This whole idea of "it can never portray emotion compared to the original audio" is just plan wrong. This comment was basically saying sub is better because i refuse to believe there's any dub that's equal to the sub. I'm not even voting on this poll bc I've never watched FMAB but you need to open your horizons more. I can admit most dubs(90%) aren't as good as the sub counter parts, but there are definitely a few exceptions. Like Gachiakuta currently airing, I've watched both the sub and dub counter parts and much preferred the dub. But then there's things like Silent Witch airing that i much prefer the sub. You also say "it's never portrayed the same" when there are countless popular audios from anime where the dub VA did WAYYY better than the original, and that's simply how things go sometimes. The mouth movement is the worst point you've made because that's the most negligible part about anime dubbing. Mouth movement isn't very detailed to begin with so most dubs fit perfectly, some even take advantage of this and fit more lines in to better fit the scene. However live action shows its WAYY to hard to ignore, I stopped watching squid games in dub because the mouths where so hard to look at.

The definition of way better is subjective I admit and no I commented I've tried to watch dubs many times but I always go back to sub because first I don't mind reading subtitles unlike most people according to crunchyroll analytis and second the voices are too different from the original too, like they turn a character that sounds a certain way and make it sound a completely different, the tones don't even match most of the time. Like just Edward, his voice is childish and screechy and then the Dub is all soft and more manly.

In the end it's simple whatever wins Neel will watch it, I just gave my opinion as I've never found any dub that I've liked enough over the original. You're free to disagree.

I’ll most likely watch the first episode tonight(maybe more) and upload it but it will officially start this Saturday or Sunday. I promised MHA peeps that I would speed run first season by end of this week so that’s a priority.

But what about Ghost Stories? You gotta admit the dub in that one is far better than sub.

I'd have to say that Ghost stories has the best dub for obvious reasons, but I think Code Geass did it better with Lelouch's Dub VA than the Sub and it's one of my reasons for thinking Code Geass is better in dub. I still recommend Dub for FMAB, these are the only two where I highly recommend dub instead.

agreed, code geass dub was hella peak, personally think the big 3 of dub are code geass, fmab and death note

I prefer the Japanese voice acting and think it is superior, but the dub is still really good for an anime dub.
